Has Fortier become 30oz ?

Currently listening to Fortiers very under-rated and awesome December 2003 Kiss mix having just played his decent '07 guest spot from the weekend (which I found a lot more interesting than his other recent offerings). The 2003 heavy drums and bass pumping at me are in stark contrast to his '07 mix with their clicky, shuffling (rather apologetic) drums. Now Chris is a legend and massive talent (that is beyond dispute) - my discussion point though is, has Chris lost some of his "beef" lately and slimmed down to 30oz from his previous 40oz fighting weight ?

he still has mad mixing skills, so i'd say he is still a heavy weight. he's just playing a different flavor of tunes that probably doesn't appeal to as many people. having said that, we shuoldn't take anything away from the guy for branching out and playing something different. go see him live. he has a whole lot more to offer than his kiss100 mix.

Re: Has Fortier become 30oz ?

But I still like, he's my favortie DJ because I'm totally into his sound. I like this monotonous groovy way, kinda hypnotizing. But I must admit i liked the music more back then, he used to play these badass tunes...

I was gonna say that. 2005's Fortier Balance was good, and his new studio album is good. I wouldn't pigeon hole or put him down based on one Kiss set. I rate Fortier as JVM--underrated, but always plays well live, with surprises up their sleeves..

Fortiers Balance is my favorite mixed album of all times.

Re: Has Fortier become 30oz ?

i remember buying records off fortier when he worked at underground record source in orlando 15 years ago.

he was a major record junky even back then (i was too i suppose) and his mix tapes were flawless. you could tell he would be successful for a long time.

it seems like he broke away from the rest of the pack in the late 90's with his own style/sound.

Re: Has Fortier become 30oz ?

Man is a legend. Let's ace it, if he stayed on playing the same records as Sasha, Digweed etc he'd just be another prog-house dj - instead he found his own style and sound (which doesn't appeal to many) so fair play to him.

Top programmer as well, his sets always build really well
