Im having a bit of a battle with these two pieces of software at the moment. I just cant decide which to use i hate to arrange in live so small and fiddley. But on the other hand really easy to use what with the internal routing bouncing clips on the fly. But then it kills my pc because its a cpu hogg Cubase is so cpu friendly you can have a high track count and still scroll through the window without it freezing unlike live i know how to use both pieces of software pretty well. I have tried other demos but im not interested in learning these i also feel cubase has more of a pro approch than abelton but thats just my opinion can anyone help me out here? thanks in advance ps. i like to work in midi and audio

cubase sx3 or ableton live? (help me!!!!!!)
Re: cubase sx3 or ableton live? (help me!!!!!!)
sounds like you already have your mind made up. If you know how to use both of them, than you should choose.
And I never understand these things people say about it being fiddly...what does that mean? I've never had much problems with Ableton at all. Most of the reasons I have problems with it is simply because I don't have enough memory and I'm using a laptop that has a 4500rpm drive instead of the 7200 you get with desktops.
Re: cubase sx3 or ableton live? (help me!!!!!!)
tbh there are reasons for having both, i preffer cubase for doing the actual writing of music although its been a while since i have written but i can also see a ligitimate use for ableton as well running as a second option
Re: cubase sx3 or ableton live? (help me!!!!!!)
imo cubase is better, but it's up to you.
Re: cubase sx3 or ableton live? (help me!!!!!!)
I prefer cubase but I still use Live to manipulate audio samples every now and then. I just export the audio and send it to cubase.
Re: cubase sx3 or ableton live? (help me!!!!!!)
LOGIC hehehehe
Re: cubase sx3 or ableton live? (help me!!!!!!)
Go SX3 before Ableton. The sound engine in Ableton leaves a lot to be desired. I suppose you could rewire it tho, and bypass abletons mixer...
but Logic Pro leaves 'em both for dead...
Re: cubase sx3 or ableton live? (help me!!!!!!)
^^^yeah, and it also costs 4 times as much.
Re: cubase sx3 or ableton live? (help me!!!!!!)
too true. too true. But you do get what you pay for when it comes to sound algorithms....

and even without dongle so you can guess 8)
Re: cubase sx3 or ableton live? (help me!!!!!!)
defenetly CUBASE!.... ableton hasnt the same quality... you can connect live with cubase. i do that when the track has vocals.. try it!!
Re: cubase sx3 or ableton live? (help me!!!!!!)
Yup, if you have a Mac, Logic has definitely entered the price game in a big way. For $500, Logic comes so packed with stuff it makes the other apps seem naked. And the interface improvements are huge as well.
Re: cubase sx3 or ableton live? (help me!!!!!!)
500, you obviously are not speaking about the pro version. So how does the new version differ from the PRO model. I'd like to know because one day I would like to grow from using Live into using Logic.
Re: cubase sx3 or ableton live? (help me!!!!!!)
^^ The new Logic Studio offers all what the old Logic Pro 7 is offering, but on a much more stable layer. I've heard the code has completely been rewritten.
Other than that, there are a few new programs. For details: http://www.apple.com/logicstudio/
All that for 500 bucks ... instead of the old 999. Off course this will motivate people to step over to Logic Studio ... which implies they need to buy a MAC (which probably is one of Apple's main goals).
Re: cubase sx3 or ableton live? (help me!!!!!!)
i've heard the real difference between the studio and the pro version. is the amount of plug ins you get with the pro, and some of the things it will do that the lower priced one won't.
Re: cubase sx3 or ableton live? (help me!!!!!!)
i use Live 7.. u rili don`t need something else.
Re: cubase sx3 or ableton live? (help me!!!!!!)
^^^^ even for mastering?
Re: cubase sx3 or ableton live? (help me!!!!!!)
the new 7 is supposed to have a whole upgraded sound engine that is supposed to be really freaking good.
And I've mastered my new stuff with live and some plugins and they come out great. So do James Zabiela and many many other producers.
Re: cubase sx3 or ableton live? (help me!!!!!!)
thats good info to have, thanks
Re: cubase sx3 or ableton live? (help me!!!!!!)
you are welcome Steve. Always enjoy talking about gear.
Re: cubase sx3 or ableton live? (help me!!!!!!)
I got myself Cubase 4 , Educational Edition (Cubase 4 with Student Discount!!). Cost me about €450! Friend of mine uses Ableton 6 and dropped down my studio. He's now seriously thinking about switching to Cubase, since it offers more features. Ableton is very nice to work with Audio files though and friendly to work with :)
Re: cubase sx3 or ableton live? (help me!!!!!!)
what features could you possibly need in what ableton apparently doesn't offer. I can do everything I need and want to do with Ableton. I've recently just figured out how I can get back into doing looping with my prepared guitar and using multiple loop recordings. Pretty awesome.
Re: cubase sx3 or ableton live? (help me!!!!!!)
i have now stuck firmly with ableton it gets the job done in half the time sure there are a few things that need sorting but im sure they will come in time ive learned that it anit what you use its how you use it. if you have no ideas but all the kit in the world then your f*&cked
Re: cubase sx3 or ableton live? (help me!!!!!!)
live 7(only have that unlocked) is essential and fundamental for me atm. but truely what i really need is the steinberg or sony acid. :(
Re: cubase sx3 or ableton live? (help me!!!!!!)
both live and ableton have the same kind of feel to it but live has a different approach in its matrix which i dont like tbh, i preffer cubase over all but live is far better @ other things but i much admit i havnt used cubase in a long time so i dont know how advanced it has become in comparason
Re: cubase sx3 or ableton live? (help me!!!!!!)
7.03 is highly unstable.
Re: cubase sx3 or ableton live? (help me!!!!!!)
^ feel ya on that one man. fucking ableton has really backfired on me. i purchased their bargain buy 6.0.7/free 7 upgrade last year, and its been such a bust upgrading and such. furthermore, i deleted my email inbox which had the email they send me with the serial number in it, and lo and behold i had to wipe my harddrive clean about a month ago cuz it was shot, so i lost that. then i got a new hd and now i cant reinstall the shit cuz i dont have the serial number, call me foolish for not writing it down but wtf. so ya im livid right now, i dont even want to call them regarding the matter yet.
my main gripe tho is the limit ableton has on decoding.
