both radios are emazing. but which one is better. which do you usually tune into? persoanlly i prefer proton. 1 beacuse of the avalible TL 2 more underground sound 3 better residents. but the shows are not avalible as much as frisky. frisky is better in terms of puting the sets out so people can dl. also the podcasts are pretty tight as well. what are your thoughts.

Re: Proton Vs. Frisky

I don't listen to either atm but years ago I was a massive fan of Proton because they didn't have as much prog. fodder as they do now. They had so many awesome shows that are no longer there. Really sad.

Well put. I think Proton lost some of its underground status & base when they decided to get greedy.

Re: Proton Vs. Frisky

I've got a massive back catalog of shows dating from 2002 through 2004. One day I'll make them available but it's such a pain to upload it all and then organize them.

can't tolerate anyone picking music for me, especially the stuff both those stations play.

And Proton's station and label policy just seems to be about how many names or populist brands they can get to support the station or label.

Re: Proton Vs. Frisky

Both are hit or miss for me. There are some shows on Proton that I do grab as soon as I see them around, such as anything Oliver Lieb does. The station that tends to be a bit more hit than miss for me is:

Re: Proton Vs. Frisky

Re: Proton Vs. Frisky

when it comes to listening radio, i kinda take a peak on both of them and listen what sounds better at the moment... possibly listened more proton than frisky...

Re: Proton Vs. Frisky

i like Frisky more, but i've been listening to internet radios for less than a year, i always had the same problem as someone above - i hated someone's picking music for me, but now i'm getting used to it :p

Re: Proton Vs. Frisky

Not sure how old this thread is, but I recently stumbled across it. I help run Proton Radio with Sam, and I'd love to get feedback from you guys as to how we can improve the service and station. We really respect the Mercury Server community, I think its been around as long as I've been apart of Proton.

To sum up what I think the feedback is so far here...

  1. More progressive?
  2. More control over what you listen to?

We are looking to offer downloads of our shows eventually, but we want to do it in a way that benefits labels and DJs and artists. We know every one wants them to download and to podcast, and we're working towards that. If you can't wait for that, you can support the station and become an On Demand subscriber.

I'd love to hear anyone's feedback, as I want Proton to be the best it can be! Perhaps we should start a Mercury channel where the Mercury users could pick the Proton shows they want, or perhaps we can talk with the Mercury admins and get our content onto the Mercury boards in a more official manner... just ideas.

Anyone?

Re: Proton Vs. Frisky

i think a mercuryserver show that features the best mix of the month from mcast would be tight...and probably unrealistic hah

#877934Post 25 of 37

Re: Proton Vs. Frisky

Hey tiddles, why unrealistic? Thats definitely something we can do if the powers at [ms] are interested.

Bring back The Thin Men.

#878035Post 28 of 37

Re: Proton Vs. Frisky

Please give Steven Caicedo as much airtime as possible, I love that guys style. Amazing track selection and programming. I totally steal mix ideas from him, great stuff......

#878071Post 29 of 37

Re: Proton Vs. Frisky

Caicedo and the Thin Men are welcome back anytime. Shows on Proton usually end due to hosts moving on or not having time or interested to do a show, which is what I believe happened with these two... though it was a while ago and I cannot remember now. :(

Re: Proton Vs. Frisky

I remember the history of Caicedo from talking to him numerous times online but that was years ago and last I'd heard he was sorted. That dude needs to make another mix for the [MS] community.

#878559Post 32 of 37

Re: Proton Vs. Frisky

I prefer frisky over proton. Frisky tends to play artists and DJs that I like more than Proton.

good idea having an [ms] show.. but who is to decide which is the best show of the month from mcast? and why have the same mix in 2 places? maybe have an [ms] show that showcases a different mcast dj each month or every other week, and they do a mix specifically for proton

Re: Proton Vs. Frisky

Who would I/Proton need to reach at [ms] to talk about a show?

#886656Post 35 of 37

Phil/Kamal/Steve Graham/TomTom
