where would you be w/ out dance music?

right now so much of my life revolves around music, it defines me. outside work it is what i do. my nights during the week revolve around the music project i am working on.... whether it be a mix or a tune. and nights out revolve around what dj i see or if i go hang out with my "normal" friends. i wonder where i would be if i didnt discover it....

my past life i was obsessed with running. i was pretty good in high school and went on to run in college (why i chose the school i did). it was there i met the guy who would get me into house music. i also drifted from running cause of injuries and the result of me being hurt turned me into a massive partier. when i came back from injuries i would try to balance running and parting... didnt work well. so i quit running, partied and got more into music ... got decks and the rest is history...

now where would i be now? would i have the job i do... would i have thousands in the bank? would i be much better at my job cause i had off time to learn more shit? or would i have reverted back to my running days?? who knows... but i am pleased as shit i found this thing.

Re: where would you be w/ out dance music?

Life would be a lot more boring if I wasn't into the 'dance music' culture. I spend a lot of time in message forums such as this one and also looking for new music, songs and artists. I would also probably have a lot more money in the bank since I spend a whole lot on 'dance' music as well. Not that I'm complaining...

Re: where would you be w/ out dance music?

I'm not sure, but the way I look at it, this is music that is special to me, just as Jazz is special to my father. When my kids see me listening to this music, they'll have their own underground culture formed and will consider the music I listen to like jazz. It's a sacred art - few respect it, but many appreciate it.

Re: where would you be w/ out dance music?

Quality thread 8)

I dont really know where I would be without edm to be honest. It has been my primary interest/obsession for so long that its hard to imagine being without it. I would probably be in a different job, have different mates and have more brain cells. But I wouldnt change it for anything. Long may it live...!!

Re: where would you be w/ out dance music?

I'll probably latch on to some other genre of music then. But I'll die if there is no music, period.

Re: where would you be w/ out dance music?

lol i have to look @ this one objectivly...hmmmm...hangin around m8 thats are still into the sixties classics and other shit like that during my younger years was hard as i was heaving out as many edm tapes as i could which usually wasnt appreciated by the others around me lol but in truth the fact was that i couldnt give a shit as to me they were stuck in the dark ages and i had something fresh which made me feel good about myself and i know for a fact without this edm explosion there would be a lot more indie bands about looking like they have never seen a bath/shower for a long time, sometimes my mind goes back and regret "bumping" into edm or rather going to edm events and finding myself compelled to take part in the pill popping of that night as it led to me having quite a drug habit in my early days but soon u realise its not about the feeling of being high its actually more about the music itself so my thoughts on that usually doesnt last long

long may it live
dance music isn't everything
No, but it as a subculture it defines who you are and what you do to a significant extent.

For example: if there was no EDM, I'd probobly be hearing a lot better right now (no shit)...

man you've got that right.

i think my hearing has gotten pretty bad, in good part to loud music, 90% of that being dance/electronic music that i like so much. i used to absorb myself in my good headphones in college when i was trying to study, do homework etc, to block out all the annoying crap around me. i still do the same now at my desk job unfortunately since i have about 6 ppl who sit close to me and are always talking, and one happens to be a chick who bitches 24x7 and i gotta get away in music before i go crazy. plus when i get home i listen to stuff all the time pretty loud, and in my car on the way home. even before that i think i have had ear probs, i think i have some mild tinnitus. high pitched ringing in the ears all the time, day and night. i usually can block it out, but in the last couple of years it seems to be more noticible to me, mainly when it is super quiet like going to bed, etc. i think my hearing is going b/c if there is a lot of background noise i have a hard time hearing ppl and have to ask them to repeat themselves alot and even find myself flicking my ear forward like some damn old man. :what

Re: where would you be w/ out dance music?

^^^ yup, I have that last thingie too lately. Couple of years more and they'll start calling me Mr. WHAT?!!!

#864402Post 34 of 38

Re: where would you be w/ out dance music?

yup i am pretty sure i have had it since i was a kid. it has been noticable but not so much where it drives me insane like i hear some people have it, which would be terrible. i dont know how bad it has to be to be classified as tinnitus, but i know i have always had a ringing in my ears even before i listened to any loud music much. i need to go in for a hearing test to see what the deal is. i hear caffeine exacerbates the problem, which isnt good in my case since i drink way too much soda...

Re: where would you be w/ out dance music?

I'd be in serious trouble. Not because music is my life, although for a time it was. Seriously though, as a web application developer and web designer I have a difficult time staying focus. I get some good beats going though and I'm able to tune out my busy bee brain and get solid work done. Also, it has a calming effect for me when I'm getting upset, and those closest to me know I've always struggled a bit with a minor anger problem.
