any other CFAers on MS?

I know there are a few financial people here...anyone else going through hell right now?

I'm doing level III this year, and its absolutely sucking ass right now. This is the first time i've seen long-answer questions on a CFA exam (levels 1&2 are all multiple choice), and lets just say the questions should come with a bottle of anal lube. so fucking hard. Portfolio management is the heaviest weighting on level III, though i gotta say derivatives is probably the hardest subject area. Risk management and performance measurement are just boing as shit...

its 1 month till d-day, and i've set aside my two weeks of vacation this year to study for the second half of may. gonna need every minute to pass this stupid thing...

gah!

If it's that tough, have you thought about something else? Is this a career that you're going to love?

Re: any other CFAers on MS?

I have put those aspirations on hold. My current position doesn't require the certification and it wouldn't pay any more if I was certified. Hopefully one day when I have enough disposable income I will get certified.

be glad you don't know what i'm talkin' about! the CFA makes me pine for the days of undergrad life...

here is a very brief summary of the CFA: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chartered_Financial_Analyst

So you wanna get the charter once you've got some money banked and can take some time off to study? That would be a wise way to go...cause working full time + CFA = absolutely no life for 3 years minimum. You might look at the benefits of an MBA vs CFA depending on what you want to do later on. Having said that, i've never learned so much in my life as I have doing my designation...its literally the only thing thats ever forced me to truly learn all the material. uni you could just fake it, but with this, there is no bullshitting your way through a 6 hr exam.

Re: any other CFAers on MS?

i feel your pain... it's an evil road indeed (finished out level 3 last year - glad to have that sht over and done with). just think, in a month you could never have to look at that crap again.

best of luck!!!

Re: any other CFAers on MS?

wow congrats on being done!

how did you find level III in comparison to II?? Harder, easier, about the same?

and yes, i can not wait to never have to look at a large portion of this ever again...

Re: any other CFAers on MS?

thanks! it was def easier without all that horrendous accounting that was on level 2. the old test questions and the ones you can pay for on the cfa instit site were very representative of what showed up - def do them.

rock it

it was ok i think...by no means a walk in the park though. it was definitely tougher than last year's level III (or so the people who were re-taking said).

just happy its over and i can get back to having a life again. the wait for the results at the end of august is never fun though...
