Weirdest remix...

I was digging through some old records the other day and found Sasha's remix of Womack & Womack's 'Secret Star'...

I know there's a long history of the likes of Todd Terry and Armand Van Helden basically releasing their own unused material as remixes with little of the original left...

And it's definitely a challenge to remix the likes of Sting or Paul McCartney (as Marc Auerbach and Steve Anderson both did) but what's left of the original version, bar the odd vocal sample?

So, what's the weirdest one you can think of?

I'm rambling now... do you follow?

Its not wierd because of the artist involved, but more the way it sounds....

Bedrock - Beautiful strange (Rui da silver mix)

Never understood that record.

Re: Weirdest remix...

bushwaka's mix of walk like an egyptian, absolue waste of time, and really can not understand why he would want to do it

Breeder - Tyrantanic (Slacker's Kingdom Come mix), as briefly featured on communicate....................

absolutely awesome track but sounded nothing like the original, surely they could have gotten away with releasing it as an original production amd made some money !

Britney Spears - Breathe On Me (James Holden?s Dub Remix)

Nothing from the original except a deep breathing sound, and totally wierd...it?s like he fucked up the whole track on purpose (thank god!)..the beats all sound like he had some kind of weird gating effect going on, and it?s full of cutups and stuff..

One of the most original tracks imo. I thought that was the purpose of the dub...to only take very small portions of the original.

Re: Weirdest remix...

I think one of the weirdest remixes I've heard, insofaras it differs from the original greatly, is Armand van Helden's remix of Tori Amos' Professional Widow - aka It's Gotta Be Big.

The original from Tori's Boys For Pele album is a sultry, moody and morose journey into beautiful sounds.

Armand van Helden ...well... hmm.

I didn?t explain it properly. For sure the purpose of a dub is just that, but the point is that the sound of the track itself is unusual, it?s like it stutters, and the sound is cut up. The 1st time I listened to it, I even thought there was something wrong with the record.

Bedrock's remix of Way Out West's 'The Fall'

Soooo not like the original at all! Could've easily been passed off as an original production, and as far as prog house goes it's pretty damn original in itself! Easily one of my favourite tracks.
