Re: anyone here given up or tried to give up smoking?

yes, i quit for 7 years & started back again about 3 years ago. one night & way too much alcohol & pills started it up again. had one cigarette that night & gradually upped it to a pack a day some months later. but my real problem now is i don't want to quit.

LSD and a cold....laugh all you want but it worked for me. Just looking at all the phlem and snot that I was hacking up while tripping worked like magic. I quit 6 years ago and still going strong.

Re: anyone here given up or tried to give up smoking?

If you really want to quit, you'll quit. It's that simple. Don't sugar coat it. Don't be a pussy about it. I smoked for years and when I quit, I wasn't trying to quit. I just happened to not have a smoke for days, then weeks until someone asked me if I'd quit. I realized that I hadn't had a smoke in a while and figured I wouldn't buy any more. This July will be ten years of not smoking.

^ ^ There's nothing wrong with doing what you like but many people on here don't like that. They want to be the police for everyone because for some reason, people don't know how to tie their shoes. Enjoy. :CandyPop:

Re: anyone here given up or tried to give up smoking?

Oh how i have tried.. i am a 20-25 cig person a day.. and when i got out i can smoke a whole pack in like 3 or 4 hours.. like beanz said if you wanna stop u will. it is all bout will power. i did stop mid last year when i went to LA and Toronto for my holiday. I thought this would be a perfect time as the plane flight was like 16 hours or so and i cant go without a cig for like 2 -3 hours.

So what i did was like 4 days before i did not smoke. and i thought i wont smoke my whole trip and it worked. then i came back and started work and started cigs again. Fucken idot i am. I guess the reason why i did not do drugs or anything like that is cause i know myself and i do have a addictive personality, so if i tried something nd i liked i would get hooked and that scared me. I will give up soon as i get a nice job though and start working out and going to the gym like i used to.. Also Cricket season starts soonish in like6 months and i have not played for like 2 seasons cause of my bad leg so i need to get fit again and i am all excited bout it all.

It is hard to give up. i find myself smoking more when i am bored. I remember someone saying on here do something u enjoy to keep your mind occupied.. that helps i guess. But hey i still smoke like an idot so who am i to give advice..:p

My advice.

Take control of yourself. Pretty simple.

Re: anyone here given up or tried to give up smoking?

@ johns... fuckin' hell. Long post there. You should get back in shape and get back into sports. There's nothing like enjoying yourself while being outdoors.

have you seen Johns ? He'll use you like a dumbell

@ dom - like others have said, just keep so busy that you stay distracted. I know the physical tug of a nicotine withdrawal can be too much but you gotta stay strong. I was a 35 - 40 ciggie Marlboro red smoker for 4 years, but that was 10 years ago and still going strong.

that line never gets old.

I used zyban and quit for 3 yrs now, but it was still tough. There is truly one way to quit and that is to just stop smoking cold turkey. Make sure during the first couple of weeks or even the 1st month, avoid smokey places like bars, and make sure you drink plenty of alcohol at home. This will help disassociate cigs with drinking. That worked for me and to be honest after 3 years, I still crave them from time to time, but the cravings last only a few seconds and go away.

good luck :Blazed:

Re: anyone here given up or tried to give up smoking?

I used wellbutrin to quit. For me, it eliminated all the nicotine cravings within about 2 weeks. To reinforce the positive health benefits of quitting, I also started running. That has been the biggest help as much as anything else. Quitting is fine, but it will be easier if you change your whole perspective on your health and well being. It important to think about, becuase if you are successful in quitting, expect to pack on 10-15 pounds as your metabolism is going to slow down.

wellbutrin and zyban are the same thing except zyban costs a shit load more and insurance wont help you with any of it. Ask a doctor to prescribe wellbutrin and get the generic form of it. its is cheaper and still works the same ;)

hey threehills, how were your dreams on the 1st week of taken wellbutrin? It gave me some wicked dreams the 1st week I was on it.

Re: anyone here given up or tried to give up smoking?

i,m doin ok actually just yesterday when i wrote this post i could of murdered one lol

zioban is almost non exsistant over here i think, doctors prescribed it for a while then a few people blacked out on them or something similar so they stop prescribing it, we have these nicotine replacement things that come in several forms so i,m using one of those @ the mo, tastes like shit but they work lol

Re: anyone here given up or tried to give up smoking?

i quit smoking a couple of years ago... and then smoked when i went to france last month for a few days... was suprised that i started so easily, but i havent smoked since i got back... made me realize that i still have a strong dependence on smoking - just here at home i replace the cigarettes with other smokage... need to quit that too

#849137Post 26 of 43

Re: anyone here given up or tried to give up smoking?

I quit cold turkey 5 years ago... or was it 6 or 7. Anyways I've only had like 3 since and only while enjoying "other" things... but I gave those up too 4 years ago. I just drink now. BUT I think I'll have a smoke and a biscuit when I turn 40. :D

Re: anyone here given up or tried to give up smoking?

I quit one year ago this month using the patch. It was rough for the first week, but got much easier over time. I can't say I haven't had one since, I occasionally have one (though usually not a whole one) when I'm out clubbing or drinking. I'd been smoking for over 20 years and tried to quit many times, but at the end of the day you have to be fully committed to not becoming a smoker again which after all those years I'd finally become :Bingo: :)

Re: anyone here given up or tried to give up smoking?

I have quit 3 times now and have started back because my wife continues to smoke in front of me. We would both agree to stop, but i would be the only one who actually went through with it. The last time I quit involved a gram and smoking so many cigarettes that it made me sick to even think about one. It worked, but the continual beat down of second hand smoke from the wife has broken me. actually quite bitter about it.

at the end of the day it comes down to will power and the decision to just do it. people are funny in the sense that we continue to do shit that we know is bad for us and we know we should change, yet so few of us actually go through with it. simply implement and maintain . . . advice from someone who has quit 3 times.:NotMe:

This last time the same thing happened, but instead of starting again full-on, I would smoke one cigarette with my wife, but not all at once nor every day, to deal with her smoking. After a while, my pride in having quit and desire not to start again had me not even wanting that one cigarette anymore.

Best part is half a year later my wife got pregnant and now we both don't smoke...you could always try that one  ;)

Re: anyone here given up or tried to give up smoking?

got two boys and already tied the tubes. i'm where i only smoke about one or two a day now and usually with her when she is smoking. other than that i dont really crave one unless i'm stressing at work.

Re: anyone here given up or tried to give up smoking?

Save your money on the patch and other silly things. Just quit if you want to. If you haven't quit, then you really didn't want to.

Re: anyone here given up or tried to give up smoking?

Nicotine is supposed to be more addictive than heroin which is sort of ironic because I gave up a few years ago when I was doing volunteer at a drug rehab centre. I thought "Shit, if these guys can give up heavy drugs surely I can stop smoking!" Don't know if they are worldwide but I did a smoke enders course! Haven't even wanted one since and I was a very heavy smoker. I had tried everything and had quit at one stage for two years and took it up again. I couldn'r wait to get out of the Hypnotherapist's office to light up. The good news is everytime you give it up you are one step closer to stopping for good!! :) Good Luck, it's a great feeling to have your hands free!!

Re: anyone here given up or tried to give up smoking?

It was increadibly hard to quit after highschool, and to be honest you may never fully be completely over smoking, at least I'm not...meaning I dont buy packs anymore, but this weekend at the Coachella Music Festival for instance, I will most definetely be smoking:JamesBro:

.[/QUOTE] I didn't really want to quit, in fact I'd reconciled myself to smoking the rest of my life [That is such a scary comment now!!] I just went along to the first meeting because a girlfriend wanted to go. But that course was amazing.!! They covered everything.!!

Btw the girlfriend and a guy we dragged along as well haven't smoked since either.
