i liked gu23, both discs were excellent imo... 26 wasnt very good, and his livesets just dont cut it.. i wasnt even a big fan of the second unkle album :x

You should've known that a lavelle kiss ass post wouldn't go down in MS well. He's on our "what the hell was GU thinking" list.
That guy will never be known amongst good dj's. It really goes to show that a guy who produces half decent music alongside others that help him out to polish up the music, can get the big gigs and the big cd's. Andy from GU needs to have his fuckin ears checked out.

the reason the guy does'nt beatmatch all mixes is that he playes tracks with such varying bpm, to say he can't beat match is a crazy statement, the man has been djing since he was 16. He is a great dj, and one of the most talented producers in the world. So what if he spins in a state twice, its his track. I agree that romania was a bit of an unkle overload,esepcially if you already had never never land, but i really like him live, as you never know what the hell he is going to drop, and it just makes a change to the mostly prog dj's that i normally hear.

I think he's gotten a bad rap since romania.
He's an amazingly talented and creative dude. Just listen to his 2002 essential mix. It was first just a random mix tape he made, Tong somehow heard it and then said they had to play it on Radio 1. Crazy good stuff.

it's kind of sad with that guy imo. as others have noted, from what i have seen he cant beatmatch to save his life, and sometimes it seems as if he has been playing the same records for the last three years.
that being said, his "Do Androids Dream of Electric Beats?" three mixes are f$cking amazing imho. too bad he has recycled them into his Fabric mix, his e-mix, many livesets, and his GU's without any sense of shame.
he's so gifted, just wish he had, e.g., john digweed's work ethic, or zabiela's for that matter. :Honest:

Unfortunately for me, i was in the club when lavelle "recorded" the gu026 set. The guy was totally fucked up, couldn't tell what he was doing there... the resident of the club kept coming to put him back on track. The music we heard that night was way worse than what's on the cd... and u know how much the cd sux ;)
The second time around i caught him 6 months later in club on the black sea coast... he was set up to play for 5 hours and ended up playing three cos he sucked ass and was totally wasted .... again. They had to take him off the decks. So yeah... Lavelle is SHIT :RockOn:

Half of you can't beatmatch either. If you can do it better then get out there and do it yourself. I'm tired of all these critics that CAN'T beatmatch themselves!!!!!!It's not ALL about that. There is NO excuse for him showing up all fcuked up to a gig and disrespecting all of the people who paid good money to see him. However, I feel that the body of his work is great; way ahead of his time. Have any of you noticed tha all of his Mo Wax releases sound better than 99% of the crap pressings that are being put out there by quality labels. Don't be so caught up in beat matching it isn't EVERYTHING. Well I'm glad I got that off my chest. :D

Maybe this should be the James Lavelle DEpreciation thread. I've not seen him live, and after the numerous bad reviews, and the limited good ones, I dont think I ever will. beat matching IS important, though one or two songs in set flowing together during a break isnt bad, the entire set shouldnt be that way, if thats what you people mean by not being able to beat match. But if he is just train wrecking, then that is ridiculous, and just because you are a decent producer, doesnt mean you should automatically be a head-lining dj. And playing your own track twice in one set? Thats just sad, really sad.. ok we get it, in a state was a decent record.. Sasha played the hell out of it, and remixed the hell out of it.. turn the fucking page.
