A buddy and I decided to go to New York city to have a bender/sight seeing day this Saturday. I'm a lifelong Californian who just moved to Boston who has no idea what to do in NY, any suggestions for good bars (character gets more points than cleanliness), restuarants, or sites that aren't in the tourist books?

i'm going to NYC on saturday too! massPIRG is doing a darfur protest in front of the chinese embassy and i have to cover it for the radio news. i don't think i'll have time to do anything fun though

if you are down for some heavy drinking. stop by black bear bar on 2nd ave between 21st and 23rd st.

and if you are around on sunday, there is a MASSIVE party going down out here on long island for saint patty's day. lots of drikning, 40 minute train ride from NYC central
