This is for the geeks inside...

lego has fallen off. hard., but anyone remember back in the 90's and 80's when lego used to run shit? I mean every mf season, they would drop some shit that would have you loosing your shit. check this out http://www.lugnet.com/pause/pictures.html my favorite set of all time was the neptune discovery lab, i never had it cuz that shit was $99 and i couldn't afford it as a kid and there was no way my mom was gonna get that for me.

so what were some of the sets you had/liked back when lego was in its prime?

Re: oldschool lego, for the oldschool lego heads...

my kid growing up had built a whole leggo village in his basement, like a model train set an old guy might have. It was laid out over three ping pong tables. There was lego "grass" and pavement under the whole thing so you couldn't even see the tables. Had a full airport and working monorail as well.

This kid was dork. :D

Re: oldschool lego, for the oldschool lego heads...

I loved Legos when I was a kid but I never liked those special editions too much where you build something uing a model as master where you do not have that much freedom besides to choose if your space station has an antenna or not  . I have to admit though I had a moon base as well but never played much with it because it was boring. I don't wanna sound like my grandfather but space stations and other Lego predesigned models were the 1st step in the 80ties to ruin kid's creativity and to make their parents spend more money because their kids get bored more easily of their toys as options are limited. My parents bought me building sets with pieces you can use for many motifs and build whatever comes to your mind. I remember creating worlds around my Carrera racecourse including airports, a swimming pool and other pimp goodies. :p

Re: oldschool lego, for the oldschool lego heads...

/sarcasm I would first like to thank Santa for dropping off all of those nice Lego Star Wars toys this past christmas, my son absolutely loves them (he's 5). It has been so much fun wasting countless amounts of hours putting them together only to have my son pull a piece off and run up to me to have it put back on, and then try to figure out how he got it off of there in the first place. /end of sarcasm

Seriously...I enjoyed Legos as a kid and I enjoy them even more now because I get to watch my son enjoying his. But within a year I have probably put 20 different Lego models together and have stepped on so many pieces in the model of the night without sceaming that I am over them. Nothing against Legos but damn if your going to put them together go out and by the glue for them too, that way the pieces don't come off. So now everytime he gets a Lego we glue it together...

Re: oldschool lego, for the oldschool lego heads...

i also had a huge lego collection. and recently wondered where it all went. i suspect my momz threw it out or gave it away to another family.

another fun batch of toys i loved was Tinker Toys. i used to always put together the lawn mower and cut the carpet. ;)
Not true. Imo shit like GI Joe et al was the real first step. I used to build according to the plans once, fool around a bit with it and then break it down and make something new out of it. Or just pimped my jet liner with it :D

Great thread Ano, brings back a lot of nostalgia :)

Re: oldschool lego, for the oldschool lego heads...

^^^ Exactly. You'd end up with cars with satellite dishes on their roofs and house with guns mounted on them. My favourite house I built had the glass door off the lego shop I also had, and it made my lego house cooler then all the other lego houses out there.

Re: oldschool lego, for the oldschool lego heads...

 If only I had the foresight to move in to town planning.

Another cool toy I had when I was a kid, but don't know if it existed elsewhere in the world. They were called connectables, and they were cars which were just a little larger than matchboxes, and you could pull apart all the different parts (front, middle or back) and put them back together in different combos.

For instance you could end up with a stretched limo with jet wings and a pickup truck back. Does anyone remember these? Not quite in the same league as Lego, but I seemed to have a lot of these for some reason.

Re: oldschool lego, for the oldschool lego heads...

Yeah, I remember those. Didn't like it tho', Lego was on the top of my list. And asdf, Playmobil isn't half as dope as Lego, nah :p

Man, gotta love those 80's threads :D

Re: oldschool lego, for the oldschool lego heads...

Don't know those Syntax, but I remember that my first lega was this one: I also got the first Space Lego and made a lot of new model with them. I see no end to creativity with Lego, as long as you have enough of them to do your project.

Yeah, man... Legos were the shit and still are. I remember I use to get punished and that was no TV, Nintendo or going-out. Legos were always there for me.

Legos are conducive for creativty!
