Are there any on MS?

Personally, I used to smoke cigs, 420, and did my fair share of pharms, didn't think twice about what I ate, drank, etc...Since like 22 I changed my entire outlook on diet, viatmins, supplements, working out, etc. Anyone else?

Re: Health Junkies

i suppose yes, but i leave the house at 7am and i am home at 6pm. if i were to run, then shower cook dinner, i am done at 8:30 leave me and hour/hour and a half to work on music... being that id be tired from work all day and then running, i would want an hour just to relax and not get any work on my music done. it usually ends up in me working on music from 6.00 to 11.00 with a quick break for dinner with some tv. i am choosing music over health i want both imo. i need my ass a 5 hr work day hahaha

Hehe, yah thats a paradox ...because if you figured out a way to include just a 30 min run, you would be more efficient in all of the other areas imo. I dont mean a 30 min run everyday either. If your already only eating dinner by taking a "quick break" sounds to me like you could leave work, run for 30, get home shower, work on music from 8-11, and use that time more efficiently, cutting out the tv part;)

Re: Health Junkies

I'm there as far as food is concerned, but not in the mainstream medical way... I was raised by two crazy scientist PhDs with access to a lot of research on nutrition, health, etc. So, I do crazy things now too. Some of those include:

 1. eat organic where I can - or at least with stuff that avoids growth hormones, antibiotics, etc.
 2. avoid partially hydrogenated oils like the plague they are
 3. avoid aspartame and all artificial sweeteners like the plague they are
 4. take a variety of supplements - multivitamin, daily dose of minerals, daily dose of omega 3 fatty acids, etc.
 5. generally avoid candy, stuff with artificial coloring, and prepackaged stuff with a zillion artificial preservatives in it.
 6. generally avoid all soft drinks and fast food.
 7. try to get my dose of whole wheat, not just the pervasive enriched flour/riboflavin stuff.
 8. avoid OTC "treatments" for colds...I treat my occasional cold with mega doses of vitamin C.
 9. limit usage of prescription medication as much as possible. If I have to take antibiotics, I'll compensate with probiotics later.

All stuff that the FDA and the medical community would like to stop me from doing 8)

true, i want to get running at work... but often i am too busy! as far as quick break for food...usually take out or just pasta (not taking the time to cook healthy...on of the problems). and tv is usually just when eating. you are also not realizing that i am fucking lazy!

LMFAO

Miro- ^Wow, yah I do all of those things pretty much identically, and I was raised on none of that, as my parents raised us on the traditional southern American diet, lol. Sleep is a BIG one on my list, if you can't get enough sleep during the work week, its good to catch up on the weekends. Whats the story on wheat grass, in your opinion? I need to add more vegetables in my diet I know that, lately I've been eating brocolli, etc. Also, do you have any legit input on the dangers of energy drinks, like Monster Energy Drink in the morning instead of Coffee/Diet Coke? If not, Ask your parents for me please =)

cool! That makes two of us on here :p I actually don't know anything about wheat grass or the energy drinks... I personally stick to one small black coffee daily. I will definitely ask them...they're still active in organic chemistry fields and this kind of stuff is basically a hobby for them now. They even turned my old room into an alternative health library once I moved out

YAAAAAH, ask'm. The library idea is awesome. My friend was raised a Christian Scientist so he's all into alternative health methods also...this is interesting stuff, right-on!

I hear coffee provides antioxidents but dry's the addrenals, lol a small cup does neither probably, haha

Re: Health Junkies

I never realized it before, but it sure feels good to be fit and healthy. Sounds like a weird thing to say but I never knew better cos I was unfit when growing up, and never thought much about health! I'm only starting to be more aware of my diet now, it's tough to do that in Singapore because of the local cuisine (and I detest fast food!). Local cuisine usually consist of Chinese stir-fry (bad!) food in hawker stalls, soupy rice noodles (which aren't too bad), curry (bad!). Asian cuisine usually employs a lot of oil, seasoning, and MSG. Sometimes, I just wish I can have a sandwich for the same price!

#795897Post 20 of 44

Re: Health Junkies

I suppose though the stir-fry wouldn't be too bad, unless it's all crappy oil and seasonings...but if it's rice and some veggies, then it's at least somewhat good...

I tabbed along last year on getting better improvements and saw some results, but so far this year I'm really working on it. Cut back on my meal amounts and spaced it all out during the day, so I can eat a good 4-6 meals now and burn things off better (no dieting here). Light supplements at the moment, but look to ramp them up down the road. And finally found an excellent workout program that I can switch up every 2-4 weeks so I don't get bored (I was so getting sick of just jumping on a machine and that even didn't do a lot at times). I figure in 6 months I should drop enough body fat and weight to get down to where I'd like to be.

And definitely have been cutting out the junk...though out of the 28+ meals I eat, it's good to have a couple of cheat-types, as long as it's still relative in size...

Scary part...I've really scaled back on the alcohol  and it's kind of feeling good right now   (I'd go out usually and drink like a fish  )

Re: Health Junkies

Drinking is a HUGE part of health, totally hear ya on that. Not to mention, thats one aspect of working out that never gets any attention, when you discipline yourself to do cardio, etc, you automatically eat healthier, sleep better, drink less, smoke less, which are all good things a biproducts of a daily 30 min workout.:|

#795922Post 22 of 44

Re: Health Junkies

Cardio I'll continue to do, but I've gotten into bodyweight exercises instead...much better kickass workout and combined with some cardio, give it a double kick in the ass...

that bio k stuff is pretty entertaining. it's hard for me to fathom putting live bacteria in my body. i didn't know there were "good kinds", but this bio k stuff looks pretty interesting. i take multivitamins and fish oil capsules daily, but thats generally all i take. i might give the bio k stuff a whirl and see how it effects my system. is it expensive?

good thread, btw. intersting topic.

Save your money.

Every Scientfic study ever done proves Mutlivitiams and supps could be helpful to the elderly or pregnant women.

As for pro-bios again waste of time, full of sugar which actually provides fuel for the bad bateria to grow even more.

Sensible diet, min 2.5l of water a day and 8 hours sleep is all that is needed.

have you ever eaten yogurt, cheese, or chocolate? bacteria is present in the first two when you eat them, and is used to make the 3rd (along with wine, vinegar, and other foods).

the jury is still out. aspratame is just a variation on an amino acid. whether that subtle difference is enough to be harmful hasn't been proven conclusively by either side...

Re: Health Junkies

as of the second of january i have not had any dairy products. i've not had any soda. i have not had any fast food. i have had no red meat or chicken. my diet has consisted of rice, vegetables, shrimp and assorted varieties of fish, as well as fruits.

technically, i'm now a pesco-vegetarian. but i don't do dairy, too.

i've lost some weight (6lbs since, and not water weight, i drink about 1.25 gallons a day), my workouts are more energetic, and has saved me some considerable money, too.

i'm not a health nut. my choices are my own based on my own observations and inquiry.

it's pushed me to work on new recipes as well, so it's also been intellectually stimulating in that respect.

i highly recommend a 7-day trial.

Re: Health Junkies

^good for you bro. There is so much dairy consumed in this country that I'm sure the majority of people have a food allergy to it.

Definitely try it dude. At least for a week and see if you notice a difference. The downside to the bioK is its very expensive. But its the only probiotic on the market that guarantees fully live cultures rather than freeze dried like most of the capsules on the market are.

Anyone with a highly acidic lifestyle (ie. drink soda, coffee eat fast food and sugar) should be taking a supplement like this. It helps to balance the body back towards a more alkaline state which helps the body to combat illness and disease.

#796464Post 33 of 44

Re: Health Junkies

it's not a food allergy thing. It's more based on the fact that it has many wide-ranging effects on the body.

i've been a huge dairy consumer for most of my life. and, have, I think, as a result, been a bit on the large side because of it.

anyone notice how fat people from wisconsin can be?

anyways, i stopped dairy. it was really tough cause all i could think of was that glass of milk, or that ice cream, or those nachos, or that pizza.

that first week i thought i was experienceing some form of withdrawal.

but after i got through those first three days, it became a lot easier to avoid it. i was eating pineapple, apples, grapes, tons of brocolli and boil-in-a-bag rice. doing a lot fo asian-oriented (pun intended) cooking. started using tofu as well. since i've quite doing dairy, eating healthier has become a lot easier. and i've lost some really serious weight (about two lbs a week now).

i've read tons of information on why dairy is bad for you. i've always been a skeptic of things, but for me, all that information wasn't enough to convince me. So...instead, i decided to use my body as an experiment. And i'm glad i took on this challenge because it's helped me realize how easy it is to eat healthy, how fun it is to cook clean foods, and seeing the benefits. I won't look to the science and statistics of avoiding dairy products, I just think about how much better I feel and how much better I look because of this habit i've formed...

haven't had a single sinus headache this month...

#796469Post 34 of 44

Re: Health Junkies

Experimenting is the key. Finding out what works for your body and what doesn't. There are so many different body types and what they respond to can vary dramatically.

Eating a lot of one particular thing can cause a food allergy. I use that term in the context that the body will react to that food as if it doesn't like it anymore ie. allergy. Not that one is naturally allergic to a particular food. I would say the same goes for wheat as it does for dairy. Wheat is in most everything people eat these days. Don't eat wheat for a month and see how you feel.

#796513Post 35 of 44

Re: Health Junkies

What would happen? I eat everything wheat, lol. Its more important how your body reacts to the food you eat, than what food you choose to eat, if that makes sense...right?
What would happen? I eat everything wheat, lol. Its more important how your body reacts to the food you eat, than what food you choose to eat, if that makes sense...right?
Exactly. Thats why its always a test or experiment. One should be able to feel or determine whether what one eats is good for their body or not.
