Roger Waters, the co-founder and primary songwriter of the legendary rock band Pink Floyd, has written and recorded two important new songs, "To Kill The Child" and "Leaving Beirut," the artist's first new studio recordings since a pair of rarities--a demo of his composition "Flickering Flame" and his cover of Bob Dylan's "Knockin' On Heaven's Door"--appeared on an international compilation album, Flickering Flame: The Solo Years, Vol.1, in 2002. The last new album featuring original Roger Waters compositions to be released in the U.S. was his critically-acclaimed solo outing, Amused To Death, in 1992.

The two new Roger Waters songs--"To Kill The Child" and "Leaving Beirut"--will be made available on a variety of digital music stores--including SonyConnect, iTunes, BuyMusic, MusicMatch, MusicNet, MusicNow, Napster, Real/Rhapsody, and Walmart.com--beginning Tuesday, September 7.

Roger Waters fans may hear streaming versions of "To Kill The Child" and "Leaving Beirut" on Waters website, www.roger-waters.com, beginning at 12noon (ET) on Friday, September 3. Original artwork and lyrics for the songs may be found on the website in addition to Real Audio, QuickTime, and Windows Media stream links to the songs.

According to Waters, he began work on his new songs "?immediately after the invasion of Iraq, which is now fifteen months ago. It seems apposite to throw them out there on the Net, before the election. Historically, there have always been people within the artistic community who have spoken out about things they believe in and they should continue to do so. I shall certainly continue to do so, whether it has any effect or not, because I feel I have a responsibility to myself to do that."

Saw them live twice in the late 80s and the early 90s (I think), but both of them without Waters (unfortunately).

Both concerts blew me away. The efford of light-effects was huuuuge. Never saw something like this again.

What? He's not still singing about his Dad dying in WWII? I guess after 3 decades he finally decided to stop milking that one.

Yeah I saw Pink Floyd in 1994 Division Bell, and that was there last tour...Its been 10 year so I doubt they will tour again....

I did see Roger Waters in 2000 or 2001 and boy that was more impressive than seeing pink floyd.

Roger played all the old classics such as shine on you crazy diamond, welcome to the machine, and even set the controls for the heart of the sun....and many more.....very awesome show.

I wish i had gone to see them live some time but just never got round to it. I saw there tribute band about 4 weeks ago in a small town near me, they were absolutley brilliant. They are called Off The Wall` and if they play near you i recommend go see them.

Re: two new tunes from Roger Waters:

I saw Roger in 2000 at Madison Square Garden. Amazing show. I do find it interesting that Waters solo stuff is absolutley nothing compared to Floyd material. Just goes to show you that even though he supposedly wrote most of the Floyd stuff(especially The Wall and Final Cut) - Gilmour was indispensable.

Heard that Gilmour's Floyd is finished.

Would love to have a solo album from him as he is one of the best guitarists of all time.

Re: two new tunes from Roger Waters:

Pink Floyd are to blame for my music passion...no...obsession.

I was 14 when I was given my 1st hi-fi system. As a coincidenece, about a month earlier, the show Pink Floyd gave in Venice (with a stage built on the water!) was broadcast on TV. I was so mesmerized by it, I went out and immediately bough Momenntary Lapse of Reason and Delicate Sound of Thunder.

Those became the 1st records I ever bought. I then started to develop an obsession with the Floyd, and today I own all their records in vinyl, except Division Bell and Pulse (the double live one with a little flashing LED on the cover), which I have on CD.

In my opinion, neither Waters? or Gilmour?s solo efforts are very good...in fact, they suck. Whatever they have done out of Pink Floyd is never gonna recapture that band, but I?m still gonna listen to these, anxiously!
