Review here

The most striking change to Microsoft Windows Media Player 10, the much-awaited upgrade to the player/jukebox that ships on most new PCs, is its dramatic cosmetic overhaul.

Windows Media Player (WMP) no longer feels like a freebie utility thrown in with the OS (think Notepad), but is an application you'll actually want to use. By giving you easy access to all of your multimedia files (music, photos, and video) and helping you accomplish the tasks you're likely to want to do with them, WMP 10 at least equals ? and in our estimation surpasses ? the current leader in the field, MusicMatch Jukebox 9.

For starters, Microsoft has moved major function buttons from the left toolbar to the top. The cleaner interface is more pleasing to the eye, and Microsoft also (thankfully) simplified WMP's button language from "Copy from CD" and "Copy to CD or Device" to "Rip," "Burn," and "Sync."

A third window view in the Media Library (which displays the Now Playing list, Burn list, or Sync list) is one of the most significant usability enhancements. In previous versions, you had to toggle between the Media Library and Copy to CD or Device window to burn a CD or send music to a portable player ? a hassle, since you could no longer see your library. Now, you can see the lists in the Library window and burn or copy from there, which is much more intuitive.

#251020Post 11 of 34

this is good, because WMP9 has been fucking up on me.

#251026Post 12 of 34

anyone know if this version will allow you to remove the silence/gap between tracks when burning a CD?

#251031Post 13 of 34

Looks a bit bloated to me... All i want it for is to play CDs which it does fine at the moment :D

#251068Post 14 of 34

here's hoping...v9 was too bloated of a GUI

#251070Post 15 of 34

10 is much more aesthetically pleasing IMO

Re: Windows Media Player 10 Release/Review

I hope my Half-Life 2 skin still works!!!! Seeing how I use WMP for next to nothing I probably won't even bother updating.

Then again, I MUST have the newest version of any apps I use sooooo....who knows.

I hear the change was more to add a digital music buying service like iTunes. The early reviews have been promising, but until they offer full albums in FLAC format I'll pass.

Re: Windows Media Player 10 Release/Review

Downloading as I type this... even though I found WMP9 too bloated as well (had to reduced it to the Classic skin, since I don't need all the fancy features and sorting/database that come with it).

But let's see what version 10 has in store for us...

#255104Post 26 of 34

not bad. it seems to work. lol.

#255111Post 27 of 34

^ go microsoft. im sure it has some kind of hole we are all missing that allows anyone into our computer, but oh well

#255113Post 28 of 34

^^^ yeah it sounds very nice.

#255124Post 29 of 34

I only use it to see videos 'cause it's a real crap for heard music.

Re: Windows Media Player 10 Release/Review

I had the same problem. For me, it was a problem with my regional settings. They were set to PERU, so all the content appeared in Spanish and only the WMP9 was available for that language i guess.

Dont know if that applies to you but..anyway, try this: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=34505
