Any fatal dog attack on a child must be devastating for a family, but do the men at the top think by rounding up all pit bull types of dogs world wide will stop this from happening.I had a pit bull dog for 8 years and he was a loving family pet who loved nothing better than to play with all the kids in the park, What would i of said to my son if there was a knock at the door and they were taking his dog and best mate away to be killed All over the western world there are pitt bull type dogs getting slaughtered in the thousands most of which ars loving family pets and why.... because 0.1% of these dog owners train them not to be family pets and abuse them so much that they dont know what love is.I recently saw some short videos on you tube about the pitt bulls in america and it made me sick, watch them and see for yourself. How would you feel if your door was kicked in and your family pet was taking away to be killed.Once all the pitts are killed then what? these people will get differant dogs, and then what will we do,kill all them aswell. Could be your dog next .Am i the only one who thinks the only killing going on should be to the owners who train the dogs to be like that. They are the ones who should be rounded up and slaughtered ,......FUCKING SCUM `
one hell of an introduction.....
thats what i thought!

I would vote for shooting all pit bulls AND their owners -just to be safe. Possibly all pet owners full stop (period). then people with children.

Thus leaving all the clubbers and reprobates to sort themselves out. :)

Wow, quite a first post, not even EDM related. Welcome to MS and I totally agree with your statement. Training dogs to fight is not cool.

Re: pit bulls

I dont have any dogs, never owned one either. But my friend did have a pit. A fucking huge one. Everytime I was around it I would squirt out some cookie doe in my pants (just a little). His pit though was cool and from what he told me, never attacked anything all his life.

man , his pit was big, it looked like a mini Bull. His head was the size of a large pumpkin. scary.

Anyway, welcome aboard.

umm ... let's time I checked Pit Bulls were not in the large-family-cute category. of course it is sad to see such a thing happen. It does not surprise me one bit. Now if you started your story with a Dachshund ... I would be f'ing furious.

Re: pit bulls
pitbulls are dangerous animals and they should not be allowed as pets.
this drives me nuts.

pit bulls, and im speaking for 99.99999999999999% of them on the planet, are actually very tame and friendly when treated as any other dog, being raised in a social atmosphere. any animal adjusts to its enviornment. when raised properly, they are nearly harmless. its the fucking assholes who treat them poorly, raise them to be aggressive, and fight them that are the problem. i could take a poodle and raise it to fight dobermans if given time.

this also applies to german shepards, rottweeilers, and dobermans and dalmations. all dogs with poor reputations b/c certain assholes think they can raise an attack dog.

#787276Post 17 of 66

Re: pit bulls

^^^ you failed. You trust the public to do the right thing. Last time I checked we are far from that kind of society. It only takes a few to fuck it up for the rest. The chances are just too high.

Re: pit bulls

I have quite a few friends who have pit bulls and they are some of the sweetest most loving dogs I've met. sadly it's the damn owners who train the dogs as fighters that deserve death. What society needs those kind of useless hate-mongering violent people?

Dogs (like humans actually) are a product of their environment. Or like my sis (a vet) puts it: dogs aren't born crazy or agressive, they're made crazy or agressive.

However, there's still a part of their personality which is determined by the race. German Shepards for example tend to get agressive when they get older.

But that doesn't justify calling all pitbulls killers (like you shouldn't call all muslims intollerant agressive fucks, wink @ sean). A friend of mine owns one and it really is a friendly dog.

I agree with mark: round up the owners who train (read: fuck up and abuse) their pitbulls and smash their testicles with a hammer!

#787495Post 28 of 66

Re: pit bulls

pits are just like other dogs -- if you train them to be violent, they'll be violent. If you train them to be friendly, they'll be friendly. The thing with pitbulls is that they are extremely strong and have jaws like vises, so when they're mean, it's a serious problem. You can train a chihauhau to attack everything that moves, but it isn't a big deal because you can send it across the room with a flick of your leg.

Properly trained, though, there's no good reason why a pit can't be a loving and gentle pet.

And oh, common policy here is to make your case with arguments instead of insults like "loser". We call each other names all the time on this board, but we also respect other members. Now go wash your mouth with bleach, pull down your pants and assume the position on my knee...

#787544Post 30 of 66

Re: pit bulls

I'm on the fence about this...I've seen websites by both sides throwing out statistics on both sides of the argument, so it's hard to know what to trust. But I have a question for you folks who are so clearly confident that pit bulls are not more harmless than the average dog: where do you get your certainty from?

The most compelling data I have seen so far comes from a report conducted by some MDs and stats PhDs commissions by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). They basically used several hundred historical dog attack cases between 1979 and 1998 as documented primarily by the Humane Society. It's an interesting read. http://www.cdc.gov/ncipc/duip/dogbreeds.pdf

These guys are not going to be as stupid as to make some gross oversimplification; as with any study, there are many limitations that cloud the picture. They point out the obvious issues that data can be incomplete and entail some selection bias. They also point out that there are not truly reliable numbers for the relative proportion of dogs in the general dog population at all times. They also point out that segmenting the data into certain smaller time frames can produce results where certain other dog breeds were on top in terms of fatalities.

Nevertheless, some of their data does suggest that there may be breed-specific attack propensities involved with pitt bulls and rotts. Here is some to get you pit bull fans fuming:

"As in recent years, Rottweilers were the most commonly reported breed involved in fatal attacks, followed by pitbull-type dogs."

"...Despite these limitations and concerns, the data indicate that Rottweilers and and pit bull-type dogs accounted for 67% human DBRF [dog bit-related fatalities] in the United States between 1997 and 1998. It is extremely unlikely that they accounted for anywhere near 60% of dogs during that same time period in the United States during that same period and, thus, there appears to be a breed-specific problem with fatalities."

Adapted from Table 1: Breeds of dogs involved in human dog bite-related fatalities (DBRF) in the United States between 1979 and 1998. Death-based approach of counting most frequent purebreds and crossbreds involved in 7 or more human DBRF:

Purebred: Pit bull-type 66 Rottweiler 39 German Shepherd Dog 17 Husky-type 15 Malamute 12 Doberman Pinscher 9 Chow Chow 8 Great Dane 7 Saint Bernard 7 Crossbred: Wolf-dog hybrid 14 Mixed-breed 12 German Shepherd Dog 10 Pit bull-type 10 Husky-type 6 Rottweiler 5 Alaskan Malamute 3 Chow Chow 3 Doberman Pinscher 0 Saint Bernard 1 Great Dane 0 total # 244

deaths for which breed was known 238

Re: pit bulls

Does the study take into consideration that dog owners looking to train fighting dogs are more likely to get pitbulls and rotties and therefore the numbers may be skewed for reasons other than the mentality of the breed alone?

totally man.. Germany is one of the most strictist places in Europe to own a dog and There is a temperement test that all dogs must go through, pit bulls pass with flying colours at 86% ....... Labradors are 81% does this mean we should go out and kill all labradors now...............
