Re:: Why Dance Music Doesn?t Get Played On the Radio
i think another reason why edm isnt as popular in the us has something to do with clubbing culture here. edm is limited to clubs in the US; there are no outdoor parties, no love parades. and clubs here mostly only let in people over 21, while people 14-20, the age where you parents buy you everything and therefore all your money is disposable income, dont have exposure to to edm. so of course there isnt marketing. the other part of it is is that there is a certain elitism associated with clubs. half the people there are there to see the DJ but the other half is wearing leather pants and shirts that say `im wearing a dolce and gabbana t-shirt?. so clubs become more of a ostentatious display of noveau riche pigshit than about music. those very same people who say that edm all sounds the same dont even consider it music, just background noise.
I agree w/ your opinion in the latter portion of this post, but just wanted to correct your first statement.

Outdoor Parties for example:

Coachella - California Love Parade - San Francisco Fuse-In (Formerly known as D.E.M.F.) - Detroit

And there's plenty of underground parties... you just have to dig a little harder. Besides many venues in American big cities are 18 and up too. You just have to wear a wristband to drink.

Re: : Why Dance Music Doesn?t Get Played On the Radio
wow  Some of my "non techno friends" think all of my records sound the same. What kind of nonsense is that. I think some people just will never get it.
I think its pure ignorance.... they dont have the ability to look beyond the "thump thump thump thump" sound... they don?t capture the essence... they haven?t developed a hearing ability.... our society is been consumed by the industry and our industry is been corrupted.

BUT ITS BETTER not to be known that to be known

Re: Why Dance Music Doesn?t Get Played On the Radio

Depending on where you travel to, there's a shitload of electronica on the radio. It's Country, Rap and R&B that need to be exterminated.

Re: Why Dance Music Doesn?t Get Played On the Radio

IMO it?s better this way. It is so, it should be so: Underground Music all over the world. It?s not about the image, it?s the all the about the music, the feeling. Pumping in my veins!! BUM BUM BUM BUM BUM Let it shine like a healthy solar system star. If they played it all over the radio and TV it would become a popular phenomena making a whore out of the deal, like Pop music. Pop music is all about the titties and the million dollars, Paris doesn?t really give a shit what she sings.

Re: Why Dance Music Doesn?t Get Played On the Radio

What I mean with underground is > not mainstreem. I don´t understand how you can relate the term "underground" with me focusing image. Everything relates to an image, every term in any language. What I meant is: Image isn´t the main attraction in electronic music. I´m curious to know what term you would personally use to describe electronic music, clubbing, raves? It popular all over the wolrd but remains hidden under a veil. You don´t see Fat Boy advertising sun lotion on TV, and you don´t want to see that happen.

btw, Whats meth??

 1. Underground / mainstream makes me think of when it was "cool" to listen to Nirvana. I don't care if a tune makes it to the tops or not. If I like it, I like.
 2. You don't see FBS advertising sun lotion no (hahahaha, a briton advertising sun lotion:lol: ), but you do see David Guetta advertising hair gel on tv...
 3. ... and no, I don't care if they do.
 4. Meth: http://www.onea.org/Methamphetamine.htm

Re: Why Dance Music Doesn?t Get Played On the Radio

1.I now see what you mean, you are right. Underground isn´t the most apropiate word. And I do not most definetely listen to electronic music because it´s "cool". Come on dude. I listen to it because it opens my mind, interstellar implosions to infinity inside my brain. 2.I know you are smart enough to know that FBS and sun lotion were just means to make a point. 3. I gotta try that shit.

Re: Why Dance Music Doesn?t Get Played On the Radio

My $.02...

There's a difference between how many people like a catchy tune to snap their fingers to and sing along with and how people who are truly passionate about music - whatever style - listen to and perceive it. I suspect we can all identify with how electronic music moves us, how it's more a mood you feel than a melody you hear, how we can immerse ourselves into it, etc.

There's always more of the former type of people than the latter. At the end of the day, you either get it and find yourself in the music or you don't. I don't try to convert or educate my friends who don't fiend for electronic music every day the way I do.

Re: Why Dance Music Doesn?t Get Played On the Radio

Good article. However, in my opinion the article misses a key point. Like in every genre, there's a lot of low quality electronic music. Trying to hide behind this "complexity" issue, most of the tracks out there are repetitive, unoriginal, and poorly produced. Therefore, people have the impression that electronic music is monotonous and loud. Don't get me wrong, there's plenty of great electronic music out there, but let's avoid being too indulgent.

Re: Why Dance Music Doesn?t Get Played On the Radio

It's really strange to say this, but from my own view point, I really tend to get along with people that listen to our style of music. Not to say that I do not have friends that listen to other music, but overall I tend to relate to people a lot more who listen to Trance (joking). And it relates to all aspects of life. Have not figured that out yet, but thought it was interesting. yes.

There is a certain mind set I guess, the coolest thing is that we pick our music, and we are not told what is Hot by the TOP 40 club.

love the untz, die by the untz.
Calling it underground clearly shows that you do focus on the image. Btw, that's some good meth you're on, bum bum bum bum ;)
Why so? Could it be that he comments on this label because of total sales versus what the rest of the shit does in the world? Underground is just an adjective. Don't read too far into the word. Otherwise, you'll start fucking a fucking ugly dude and tell everyone it's a chick. :roflmao:

Re: Why Dance Music Doesn?t Get Played On the Radio

Good read but they left out one thing. You either get it or you don't. That is why electronic music will never be popular.

Re: Why Dance Music Doesn?t Get Played On the Radio

*sorry for the long post!;)

i think everyone's overlooking another point in that enjoying music is partly because you can identify with the general population it's written for, and also associative inasmuch as you will like it if you are constantly exposed to it in situations where you are having a good time. while there is a certain amount of intrinsic value to some sounds/combinations, there is a lot to be said for the sociological/associative aspect. take hip-hop. many whites, especially the older generations, find hip-hop distasteful because of its associations with blacks, the inner city, gangs, sex, violence, etc. there really is nothing about the actual "sound" of hip-hop that is offensive to them; they just don't like the image that it conjures. I don't like modern pop or country not because of the sound of the instrumentation, but because pop music is associated with cheapness and commonality/banality and country music reminds me of backwards and racist American cowboyism.

classical, dance music ain't by any stretch. it is similar in some respects, in terms of some forms, etc. but it is largely unique. it is a music that exists purely for the establishment of a groove; other elements are added as decoration to keep the mind entertained. classical is pure art music, with no boundaries whatsoever, rhythmically, harmonically, formally. dance music/i-edm has a purpose, to attain the groove.

people who are not into dance music have not been exposed to a situation where it is fun for them to participate in it, or cannot identify themselves with those who are already into it or what it represents to them, or will not/cannot "get into" the groove aspect (or any combination). there is also the drug factor; attaining the perception of the groove factor is almost unavoidable when under the influence of ex, pot, etc. once this barrier is broken, most will return to dance music in some form.

nearly everyone has music they don't like because it represents a situation that is distasteful to them...i think it really has little to do with the actual "sound" of the music.

Re: Why Dance Music Doesn?t Get Played On the Radio

so I was listening to the local LA radio station, Power or something like that (not by choice). And the disc jocky made this huge announcement, and a siren went off to announce that they were going to play a new song. Imagine that! They play new stuff so infrequently, they actually have a siren go off to announce when it happens!!!

:roflmao: @ listening to Power 106. But they did rock in the mid 80s. :CandyPop:

Re: Why Dance Music Doesn?t Get Played On the Radio

electronica isn't aired over waves in europe? i really haven't a clue how popular dance music is there, but this article seems to focus on american culture only.

agree with #3. the reason it isn't popular over here because the majority of people that don't listen have already stereotyped our personalities because we listen to "rave" music... i listen, therefore i'm on heroin, etc etc. just like ones that listen to death metal, people just assume that you have a certain peresonality.

Re: Why Dance Music Doesn?t Get Played On the Radio

^ ^ I didn't even get that far while reading your post. I should have checked. :p What about death metal? That's an understood. People are too fucking stupid to understand that genre of rock. Even the kids getting into it nowadays don't know shit. Present day bands are fucking assfuck and know nothing about the genre.
