Finding this was a great christmas present! Sounds good so far...

Re: John Digweed Transitions Vol 2 Review

A few ok sounding tunes but I thought it went nowhere, really kind of boring; at times it sounded it was going to take off but sank. A shame b/c after hearing the podcast minimix I thought this comp was going to be interesting; overall left me disappointed.

That said I think I liked Volume 1 better in terms of programming but thats not saying much since I thoroughly dislike this electro/minimal/tech house revolution.

Never heard of any of those tarcks...now that's what I call an album.

It seems like DJ albums that are released now you know 10 out of the 12 tracks released.

Ypu guys need to peep Undulation 2 by Audiofly. I know it's been out for a little while but man talkabout tracks you've never heard before!

Certainly on first listen I prefer this one to the first - but i guess only time will tell, as the first Transition i listen to at least a couple of times a week and it never get boring!

One thing is for sure, Digweed is certainly at the top of his game right now - his productions and mixes are excellent.

Whilst i will no doubt listen to this promo loads, cant wait to unwrap the real thing when the order comes through - money well spent folk!!!!

Re: John Digweed Transitions Vol 2 Review

listening to it right now, the first track was the opening at Moonpark XII, i LOVE it

Re: John Digweed Transitions Vol 2 Review

Gave it a once over, and so I'd have to say T1 is better (thus far), but there are some great tracks on it. However, not going to make definite conclusions until I've heard a couple times more. It's more of a low-mid tempo mix compared to T1. Definitely looking forward to listening to it again tonight.

Definitely going to buy a copy though :)

#778861Post 21 of 63

Re: John Digweed Transitions Vol 2 Review

i like the mixing. its great. only listened twice so far in my car and sounds good. a bit more uplifting this time. i loved the deep darkness sort of style of t1.

Re: John Digweed Transitions Vol 2 Review

After preordering I could listen to the promo with a clear concience. Fecking great.

Can't wait to get the real thing though, I'm a materialist. :)

#778895Post 23 of 63

Re: John Digweed Transitions Vol 2 Review

I downloaded the promo (I have the cd on preorder in case you're wondering :) ) and I'm listening to it right now, I'm about halfway through...

The first half so far has done amazing things for me. Considering I still play volume 1 so much I can honestly say this one won't be leaving the player for a looooong time.

I was going to write a proper review so far, but I just don't have the words to do this justice.

#778908Post 24 of 63

Re: John Digweed Transitions Vol 2 Review

took me about 3 months to fully appreciate vol1, then one day it suddenly clicked! I have this on pre-order, will wait to get it, cant be doing with downloading copies anymore

i agree, this is really boring, especially as the original Transitions CD was so good.

Re: John Digweed Transitions Vol 2 Review

both are boring for me :NotMe: there are a few good tunes there but the whole lacks any particular direction. No idea behind the mix. It could easily be aired on one of his shows - as a showcast of this weeks tunes, nothing special. I don't get why people spend money on cds like that - you can get it for free every week on [ms] ;) mix cds are an extinct species for me... waiting for involver2 though, that at least has a chance to be different

Re: John Digweed Transitions Vol 2 Review

Upon first listen, it felt like it took a damn long time to get going...maybe 2/3s of the way in, but once it got going it was some good shit...need a few more listens to fully appreciate this one.
... waiting for involver2 though, that at least has a chance to be different
Hope it gets released sometime before 2010...

Re: John Digweed Transitions Vol 2 Review

I still think the first half of the mix is where it's at. So much cool shit happening there when you give it your attention. The ending is starting to grow on me, but its still all about the first half for me.

Have I mentioned I like the first half a lot?

Re: John Digweed Transitions Vol 2 Review

Preordered my copy a couple of weeks ago. I have not heard any of the promo's going around either but the reviews I just get more pumped up to hear this mix. I want to be completely blown away the first time I hear this so I am going to wait until I get my copy in the mail before I listen to it.

#779602Post 35 of 63

Re: John Digweed Transitions Vol 2 Review

Track 3 sounds like a rip off of "Simpler".

#779781Post 36 of 63

Re: John Digweed Transitions Vol 2 Review

i agree with what most people say on here. First half is good but then it drifts into nowhere, lack of good tunes.
I want to be completely blown away the first time I hear this
You won't be. It's alright i suppose, i've heard it twice and nothing really jumped out and grabbed me by the short and curlys (like roots for acid or on speck did). I'll give it a few more listens, see how it grows on me. I reckon transitions 1 is better - it's got more pep in it. If you cut the last 25 minutes off this cd, it could easily be a warm up into the first track of tranisitons vol. 1.

#779929Post 38 of 63

Re: John Digweed Transitions Vol 2 Review

I disagree, now that I've listened to it more than a few times it only drops off for me after the 60 minute mark or so. Everything up to that point is shit hot.

After the 30 minute mark it sets a steady pace for itself which it doesn't deviate from until after the 1 hour point where thing pick up again.

I don't find this boring one bit. The problem for me with transitions 1 (although it is an awesome compilation) is that there were odd tracks here and there I just couldn't sit through and had to skip over, by the end of it whenever I'd put on the disc I'd only end up playing my favourites and that was it. This one is a complete listen for me with no skipping.

Very true. This mix is more of a soundscape that he's painting in front of you that takes an hour for him to create than a mix you can just "listen" to.

The more i hear it, the more it reminds of q6's kiss mix earlier this year.
