ive heard this mix a few times right after i bought the dvd/cd combo. but as i sit here preparing for an OS restore, im once again loving the shit out of this set. one of the only cd's worth buying in 2006, imo.

the cd that comes with it is a condensed version. for those that dont know, this mix is actually 96 minutes in length and recorded in 5.1 Surround. i have the full version on my mp3 player and its just nasty work!

Re: Richie Hawtin - Transitions DVD mix

wow. i'd like to be able to check that out someday. I loved DEF&909. Perhaps I'll buy this on your review and love for the dvd.

Re: Richie Hawtin - Transitions DVD mix

that mix is certainly worth it... It's really neat on the DVD version to have cues as to what he's bringing in and shifting out as the set progresses. Highly recommend this mix and Hawtin's Closer to the Edit...they're made in such a musically purposeful way that even non tech-oriented people I know can really appreciate them.

Re: Richie Hawtin - Transitions DVD mix

I've heard big things about this one but still have not heard it :(

I might try and pick it up on the weekend. Is it in a DVD case or a cd case?

#772947Post 5 of 46

Re: Richie Hawtin - Transitions DVD mix

mine came in a cd case.

included was: 1dvd - containing 96 minute mix. and some bonus footage such as interviews. 1cd - with cd capability being limited to 80 minutes, they give you a condensed version of the mix which is also good, but goddamn that full set is filth.

Re: Richie Hawtin - Transitions DVD mix

There's also a video of a gig on the dvd. Wicked visuals. The mix is beautifully mastered, every sound is just, whoa! And hearing them on a good sound system literally adds another dimension to it. The only letdown was the actual "music video" of the mix which was kinda boring visually (plain text fading in and out) even though you get to "see" the track layering and transitions. From what I read before purchasing the dvd, I had expected a proper music video/visuals that actually "react" to the track transitions.

Re: Richie Hawtin - Transitions DVD mix

that would have been nice. with an option to view the "cue"

I really agree. The cd's great, but in those extra minutes the beats slow down and the melodies start coming in. It's a great ending. I delayed hearing the dvd for a while, since I don't have a nice surround system. In the end, it didn't matter. It was still enjoyable just coming out of the tv.

I remember a 4am session with Richie at Homeands 2001, really twists your brain after 14 hours of partying.

Re: Richie Hawtin - Transitions DVD mix

I purchased it once this thread reminded me to get it.

It arrived the other day.

It's pretty damn slick. So much effort must've been put into it.

Re: Richie Hawtin - Transitions DVD mix

This is an amazing DVD. The fact that it's in 5.1 just add's so much to the overall listening experience. I hope more CD's like this get released (coughinvolver IIcough)

im broke, i spent all my money on cat food and cocaine

#787385Post 33 of 46

Re: Richie Hawtin - Transitions DVD mix

That doesn't entitle you to steal from the artists you like. Not trying to preach, but believe it or not these guys actually feel the pinch from piracy.

Re: Richie Hawtin - Transitions DVD mix

honestly, i havent boughten a cd since middle school and i have never boughten a dvd and i watch a shit load of movies, im sorry if you think im a dick but im not going to pay for something i dont have to, welcome to the interweb i say to myself. I dont know the piracy laws in the uk but im pretty sure you cant re broadcast radio shows with out paying some type of royalties to the corporate owners so shouldnt you feel jsut as bad "pirating" digweeds kiss mixes, i know i dont.

#787399Post 35 of 46

Re: Richie Hawtin - Transitions DVD mix

this is an age old argument.

i take advantage of the internet as often as possible. and when my pocket allows me to purchase a cd, i do it.

long live freedom!

now talk about richies dvd

Re: Richie Hawtin - Transitions DVD mix

Digweed has thanked [ms] on his show. John and Kiss both know we're here. Technically this is extending the broadcast reach of Kiss in a not for profit environment. If I was to travel to the UK all the way from Australia, which radio show do you think I'll be first tuning in to when I get there?

Don't worry, I used to be proud like you of the fact that I had so much pirated music and movies on my PC. I grew out of all that rubbish though. In a few years I'll be running solely on free software (Linux) to escape the clutches of something I don't feel I should pay for. That's the proper way of doing it.

[/quote] sure digweed shows props to his fans on ms but im not talking about the artists, im talking about the brocast corperations that get money from thos god aweful commerical breaks. once there are set US and international laws combating and procecuting soulseek and EDM im not going to stop. Its basically why i got cdjs to begin with.

im not proud im just feel lucky that i can listen and watch everything that artist and directors have to offer all over the world and its all at my finger tips. If it wasent for downloadable music, i wouldnt be able to enjoy nearly as much art that the world has to offer. 20 bucks for a 80s pop cd, no thankyou.

How about putting it this way, as a consumer in a capialist market, im gonna find the cheepest and easyiest way to get what i want. Intil it changes, in moign to do what is best for my needs.

Re: Richie Hawtin - Transitions DVD mix

........so the middle part of the mix is the best for me. most in depth shit going on.... 5, 6, 7 tracks at a time oh my!

Re: Richie Hawtin - Transitions DVD mix

I'm gonna have to give it another listen when I get home methinks. Still not familiar with it enough yet.

My favourite part of the whole things is during the live footage he's included. Without giving too much away for those who are yet to see it... the part where it goes all dark, and then the ants come
