[url]http://www.mercuryserver.com/forums.php[/url] is a dead page..... the reason [url]http://www.mercuryserver.com/forums/[/url] takes you back to the index html page is that there is an htaccess file which is re-routing you to the first available .html file in the folder.... which is the opening page on ms.
however if you actually type in [url]http://www.mercuryserver.com/forums/portal.php[/url], the browser will take you as directed

what version of PHP are you guys using? if it's not > 4.0.4, i suggest you upgrade, as there is a php/.htaccess vulnerability that exists for versions of php <= 4.0.4....
