pinched from RA

Progressive house kingpin John Digweed drops the second installment in his 'Transitions' compilation series next month. 'Transitions 2' includes cuts by Robert Babicz, Guy Gerber, David K and Tobi Neumann.

John Digweed is one of the giants of the progressive house scene who's been championing the sound since the mid-nineties. But earlier this year on his 'Transitions' compilation he revealed a new agenda of ravey German electrohouse and lush proggy techno. The tracklist for the follow-up 'Transitions 2' has now been revealed and once again it shows Digweed moving another step away from the sound that catapulted him into the spotlight.

Like the first installment 'Transitions 2' is a mixture of tech house, electrohouse and techno, but unlike volume one, which heavily sampled artists from German electrohouse label Great Stuff/Kling Klong, this time Digweed's looked to Cocoon artists such as David K, Tobi Neumann and Guy Gerber - he's also on Digweed's Bedrock label. There's also cuts by relative newcomers Abyss [Buzzin' Fly], Felix Houzer [Out of Orbit] and Dirk Technic [10 Kilo] as well as techno old hand Robert Babicz. The Joakim remix of the recently re-issued Antena classic 'Camino Del Sol' and an older Jackmate track should keep the Digweed faithful guessing.

John Digweed 'Transitions' Tracklist

  1. Abyss - Mind Games [Digweed Cheeky Edit]
  2. Abyss - The Dreamer
  3. Chaim EP - Dana (Guy Gerber Mix)
  4. Antena - Camino Del Sol (Joakim Remix)
  5. Williams - The Shivering (Pitch & Hold In Camera Obscura Remix)
  6. Evil Hinko - Gedankenhochsprung (Babicz Remix)
  7. G-Stylz - Belong To Me (Dub) [Digweed Cheeky Edit]
  8. David K - Boul de Nerf
  9. Felix Houzer - Mandolina (Robert Babicz Rework) [Digweed Cheeky Edit]
  10. Dirk Technic - I Love You (Smallboy Remix)
  11. Guy Gerber - Digital Memories
  12. G-Stylz - Can't Get Enough
  13. Dose3 - Minds (Tobi Neumann Mix)
  14. Jackmate - Manray [Digweed Cheeky Edit]

John Digweed 'Transitions 2' is released on Renaissance on January 29, 2007.

Re: John Digweed - Transitions 2

trancy melodies... really? I love realy melodies in tracks, but when I think trancy melodies anymore...i think of all those syncopated stabby synths...eeek.

Re: John Digweed - Transitions 2

i'm a big fan of tech house and progressive style electro house is a bit cheezy for my taste.

Alot of artists have been jumping onthe electrohouse bandwaggon and i hope it passes soon.

Alot of people are deeming electrohouse as the new trance.

Dont get me wrong there are some bangin tunes and wikked artists but I miss the dark progressive sounds of Digweed Steve Lawler John Acquaviva and the list goes on.

Deep Dish had me surprised with their pop infused sets this year but they changed it up pretty much everytime they played a gig.

The GU29 Dubai set had me grooving to proggy house tech house and even some snuck in techno.

I guess we'll see what the new year has to come.

I'll grab this set when it is available to buy because i want to see what it will be like it's even possible I might like what Diggers puts out on the plate for us on his new album.

#767327Post 28 of 44

Re: John Digweed - Transitions 2

this set isn't electro house from the looks of it. and from what i've heard on it...

i think there is a lot of confusion these days about genres...

#767337Post 29 of 44

Re: John Digweed - Transitions 2

a lot more homogination of different styles there days. Growth is good. Why stay the same when you can grow.

Re: John Digweed - Transitions 2

i think it will be great... thats my 2cents

#767411Post 31 of 44

Re: John Digweed - Transitions 2

Vol.1 was pretty eclectic, with techy minimal house mixed progressively. Loved it. So looking forward to this one.

David K - Beautiful Dead... love that track, so looking forward to hearing this new one out on vol. 2

?nuff said.

#767643Post 34 of 44

Re: John Digweed - Transitions 2

besides the fact its not all just house music... talk about the music, and not the 'genre'.

#767644Post 35 of 44

Re: John Digweed - Transitions 2

It's ok that there are various genre's within the mix and within each track, I'd personally rather there be some electro and trance here and there rather than just house...thats like old school of thought anyway right? Not to mention that this topic has been discussed more than the La Dunne set or anything other:lol:

But then again, I like his Fabric 20 cd more than Transitions 1, so what do I know?

^ I love the fabric mix, so analyze that for me Nikolic

what does that tell you? You seem to be a well versed trainspotter type.;)

#767681Post 38 of 44

Re: John Digweed - Transitions 2

they are different mixes imo.

the fabric is more groovy housey techy house stuff, while t1 is a slow gnarly workout that peaks at just the right time. both are mixed very well.. the fabric from track 2 to about 7 is just amazing.... and t1 from start to knights of columbus is impeccible. the little tricks and edits he did to the songs, especially 'every - feeling' adds a lot to the mix imo. there's bit he's mixing for days.. loop mashines are teh rads.

You're obviously mocking me here right? Oh well, I'll analyze it anyway :)

But Chloe is right... house and tech sounds rolled up into a nice mix with a groovey feel.

Joel Mull - Emico... awesome track, nice and deep. The transition Bobby Peru - Venom to Martin Solveig - Rocking music is spot on. It's a good compilation, and slots nicely as number 20 for the fabric series... but when comparing to transitions, i think it lacks depth in programming... it's a little bland. and whilst most of the tracks are good, they're not mind blowing. for me at least, T1 has some great stand out tracks just make me go  Didn't get that from fabric. Maybe thats how its supposed to be with a pretty groovey album, and while I think its still great.... for me, its just not as good.

floridaorange, of course im not slagging your opinion. its your opinion and thats great. i was just taken a little by surprise because i think t1 is up there with some of his best, while fabric left a little to be desired. but, thats only my opinion.
