Re: how do you feel about the music NOW compaired to late 90's
There were some Huge Choons back in those days. That is when I first started listening. My first big party was Electric Daisy Carnival in 2000. That really blew my mind. I was new to the scene and had no idea what was in store for me. I also did not know I could stay awake for 50+ hours.

you must have been doing as much blow as he was at that party then
Re: how do you feel about the music NOW compaired to late 90's
i love the music from late 96 on. i really like what came out say from about 98-2002. best time period. the music this year is fantastic though. last year fuckin sucked and 2004 was kinda hit or miss. 2006 has restore my faith(not that it was ever really lost). I constantly listen to music from back in the day though, just as much as the new shit. 2006 has had some really good mixes come out and i am happy to have so much good music new and old to listen to.
Re: how do you feel about the music NOW compaired to late 90's
yeah last year did suck....but since then seems back on track
Re: how do you feel about the music NOW compaired to late 90's

Re: how do you feel about the music NOW compaired to late 90's
i like to close my eyes so i can see the sound in my head
Re: how do you feel about the music NOW compaired to late 90's
Music was good then and it is still good now, just expand your mind.
Re: how do you feel about the music NOW compaired to late 90's

Re: how do you feel about the music NOW compaired to late 90's
1998-2002, best yrs for the scene IMO. I still listen to some of the classic tunes from then as well as some of my favourite sets

Re: how do you feel about the music NOW compaired to late 90's
The best part about progressive music... it never really gets old.. I can still listen to sets from 1998-2004 and some of them are still banging!
Re: how do you feel about the music NOW compaired to late 90's
Yeah the music in the late 90s was awesome, but I think the music now is just as good
Re: how do you feel about the music NOW compaired to late 90's
I very much prefer the music from the late 90s, and also prefer music from the mid-90s or even early 90s. The early to mid-90s stuff were much more musical and complex/layered. The late 90s sound was so dark and evil.
Now I still hear stuff I like, such as Cattaneo, Garcia and Pole Folder. I don't consider myself a close-minded person when it comes to music (I love the approach/attitude Fortier and Lisle are taking towards prog, and the stuff that Three and Cusick play), I just find the current trend of electro-tinged sounds extremely boring because they're very reliant on building up intensities in a droning and grating manner not unlike a penumatic drill or trance buildups.
It's like that deep/dark prog period when everyone was doing it. When it's shit, it's just mindnumbingly boring. When it's good, it's such a headfuck. Same with music today. The internet also makes it easier for people to jump on the same bandwagon.

Brrrrr, goose bumps...
I def think music from the latter part of this year has really picked up. i like the leaning towards minimal type sounds that are creeping in. Even some housey stuff u hear on the radio, although I dont like it, sometimes has a nice little noise in it or something that u can pick up on..
Re: how do you feel about the music NOW compaired to late 90's

didn't think I'd see that on here

Re: how do you feel about the music NOW compaired to late 90's
EDM is better for my tastes, rock got a lot worse
Re: how do you feel about the music NOW compaired to late 90's
Even though i really love prog, i'm impressed how edm as a whole has made its way through, never thought it would have like this - also like how it accomodates with other musical genres
Re: how do you feel about the music NOW compaired to late 90's
I've enjoyed it all since the late 80's! There were a few times when I wasn't too interested in some tracks (2004/2005) but overall it's been good.

I agree...the last yr and a bit has given life back to the scene. I was starting to lose faith that the music was going to continue down a crappy spiral. However, we have been graced with many new talents that actually know how to make a tune. Even some of the older producers out there have turned it up a notch to stay up to par with the noobies.
didn't think I'd see that on here
haha I am full of surprises ;)
Voyage is one of my favourite tracks ever! I missed the days when this was played live, and thought I would never hear it until Tiesto came to The Docks here in December of 04, and played a 6hr set and he went all old school with the tracks for a good 2.5hrs of the set and when that dropped...man I had goosebumps. I lost it!

Def agree.. I was saying this to my mate the other day. No other 'scene' has stuck around for anywhere near as long as dance music. Long may it continue.. :Respect:
Re: how do you feel about the music NOW compaired to late 90's
I don't know if this goes for anyone else, but the reason I look back to the late 90's so fondly is because that's when I first really really got into the music. Since I was a newbie I listened to just about everything I could get my hands on that would be considered "electronica". Some of the mixes that came out in that time - Tranceport 1 & 2, GU's from Digweed, Emerson, Sasha, Gatecrasher Red/Blue TranceGlobalNation - those were my first real, proper mix CD's. Follow that up with seeing some of those DJ's live for the first time and my taste in music was totally defined. It was solely because of the sights and sounds from that time that I got put on the progressive track rather than D&B or jungle or happy hardcore. Sure, my tastes have changed a little bit since, but they've never strayed too far from the prog style and its all because of tracks like Belfunk, The Bassline Track, 1998, Someone, Greece, Calling Your Name ect.. ect..
The best part of this music (and any genre of music really) is how in changes. Like some have already said, listening to prog morph from trancy to dark and evil to techy to electro has had its highs and lows, but it's always kept our interest. Let's face it: even at its worst, the music has us on this site all day every day talking about it - that alone should speak for its longevity!
Re: how do you feel about the music NOW compaired to late 90's
maybe it's because we were all still doped up during those years.
Re: how do you feel about the music NOW compaired to late 90's
Maybe its coz the dope was any good in those years :)
Re: how do you feel about the music NOW compaired to late 90's
I'm still stuck in the 90s, Xpander, Space Maneouvres Stage One, Tyrantannic, Innerspace! I find some of the newer stuff a bit too funky! Give me dreamy ... although some of James Holdens recent sets have some pretty cool tracks.
Re: how do you feel about the music NOW compaired to late 90's
Its all what you find and where you find it. 90's had some choice tunes, but it also had some crap that would make you want to claw your ears out in self defense, then again the same could be said about recent music as well. As far as 90's go, progressive house to me was at its peak, and that is what really got me "hooked". As of late the genre has been less than decent but that is just my 2 cents. As the years progress so does technology allowing any slapdick the ability to make music which is a ginormous double edged sword. Wow, with all those words you think I would have come close to answering the question...:what
Re: how do you feel about the music NOW compaired to late 90's
I think there is still quality music out there but you have to look MUCH harder to find it.
There is an unbelieveable amount of garbage out there e.g Trentemoller, MANDY, Booka Shade, Tiefschwarz and all that german minimal crap can just go right away, I can't stand it really.
The late 90's are quality, but I don't listen to it all the time, I do seek out new sets, but like I said it's harder to find something I like.
Re: how do you feel about the music NOW compaired to late 90's
I don't care much for the music that has come out over the past 3 years. That's the reason I hardly post here anymore, nobody wants to hear people bitch about how much you hate the music they still like.:D

Re: how do you feel about the music NOW compaired to late 90's
Back in the good old days ah,
I loved going out dancing AND singing along to tunes like Freefall- skydive and Grace - not over yet (bt remix). Seemed more fun on the dancefloor then.
Still go out but not that often.
Re: how do you feel about the music NOW compaired to late 90's
i miss going out to a really good show on a regular basis. i do get to see some of the better locals in my area recently, but nothin like 98-2003, where i got to see some wonderful international acts(Howller,Diggers,Sasha,Hybrid,Satoshi,ect.). i really think 2006 has been quite a damn good year for music. the mix cds that have come out have been top notch as well(Transitions,Sequential,Sasha's Avalon mix, Lex.Ave.mix,ect.) I have been quite inpressed compared to the bullshit released last year, but nothing compares to 98-2002(although 03and04 had some good music as well). I can't emphisize this enough. prog really took off in 94 and 96 and 97 were awsome. 98 really kicked things into high gear and the rest is history. i think 2006 has seen a nice advancement of the prog sound, as well as moving away from that electro-shite everyone played last year(terrible:BangHead:) and back toward a proper progressive sound.
Re: how do you feel about the music NOW compaired to late 90's
Good stuff then, good stuff now. Ah yes. Music is a great thing.
