Ya looks great, but only if you live in a few select RURAL locations in Texas. It will be months before it even expands to some of the more urban area's of Texas, and years before its anywhere else.

My luck dictates that it would be in Denver by the time its too late. Have you heard anything specific regarding this and the Denver area superEgo?

unfortunatly not so much... ive been pretty happy with cable service in the boulder area.. although, it certainly costs much much more than the verizon service.

i am moving to texas in a few weeks (austin), so maybe ill get lucky and it will be the first urban area to get it :)

i think they they are going to spread this service much sooner than anybody thinks i called them and asked about PA and they said by december we have had fiber optic lines out front for 10 years

th one problem with them spreading this serivce comes from the FCC rules which they need to change you folks in the northwest us are going to be out of luck till the fcc changes the law

but the future of the internet looks really bright with this

I'm not sure which FCC regulations your talking about for the NW, but the area I live in already has fiber runs. AT&T (now Comcast) installed it about 3 years ago. I believe this is for their cable system (Hybrid Fiber Coax), but the size of the bundles leads me to believe theres many of them currently not being utilized. Also keep in mind that while Verizon is currently doing a rollout on this product you will likely see Comcast and others follow with speed increases. Comcast, unlike Verizon already has the infastructure in place (cable). The current DOCSIS standard allows for 30mb, its just a matter of Comcast changing the settings on your cable modem and you got gobs more b/w.

Its good to see Verizon trying to compete since that will make Comcast return things to the old @home days. We may not need to wait until fiber is in our area, just until Comcast starts feeling the heat from Verizon. :twisted:

see verizon wants to run and spend billions on fiber lines in the north west but under the current FCC rules they would have to lease use of those lines to other companies the lines they have now are free of that there verizons only to use

this had to due with the merger of a bunch of phone companys years ago that are now know as verizon and certain rules were put in place when the merger happened

has anyone heard anything about ADSL2? the modems/routers/wireless routers are just coming out to support the technology.. apparently it can do 8-24 megabit.. does anyone know anything about this?

Are these for backbone use or in residential situations as well?
