Re: Nick Warren - GU 30 Paris

It's growing on me.

Wasn't blown away 1st time I listened to it, but I know I will like this. I already know it won't be better than Shnaghai in my eyes, but I love Shanghai for different reasons.

Top tracks:

Nove-Sedatives Audioglider-Whiskers Joey Fehrenbach-Being Around You Blue Foundation-Sweep (great vocal in here) Pole Folder-Buenos Aires/Bokoto 10PM 16 Bit Lolitas-Neptune/Non Verbal Language Ohmna-I'm Lost Eelke Kleijn-8 Bit Era

Re: Nick Warren - GU 30 Paris

well cd one has such a nice vibe to it. on cd two the only track that got my attention was blue fountains sweep. nothing els really grabed me. im really losing faith in global underground. im just hoping that sashas involver2 restores this faith. i know sasha always brings it home

This is REALLY good. Nick never lets me down. I think both cds are excellent. Nick is a master of Prog and Downbeat music...... ROCK ON NICK!!!! GREAT CD :D I don't think Dubfire and Freeland can compete with this release....

Re: Nick Warren - GU 30 Paris

Dubfire (real name Ali Shirazinia), one half of the Grammy Award winning and four-time nominated duo Deep Dish has teamed up with Global Underground to release his first-ever solo mix album in April.

Dubfire's Global Underground 031 double CD mix features cuts from the likes of Julien Jabre, Booka Shade, X-Press 2, Nic Fanciulli, Samuel L Session, Robbie Rivera and Nitzer Ebb, as well as remixes by Paul Kalkbrenner, Peace Division, Carl Craig and Sebastian Ingrosso. The mix also contains Dubfire's original production "I Feel Speed;" a cover of an obscure Love & Rockets song that, for the first time, features his own vocals.

"This mix is more about who I am, as opposed to Deep Dish. This is an extension of all my influences from day one and where my head is at currently. I've always been about pushing the envelope musically and anytime there's a new sound, I'm paying attention," says Dubfire.

Dubfire, along with his partner, Sharam Tayebi, the two DC-based friends have combined to form one of the most celebrated DJ duos in Dance Music. The Iranian-American duo first rose to prominence following the 1998 release of their debut album, "Junk Science". Since then, the two have spent their time trotting around the globe and creating celebrated remixes for some of the world's top artists, such as Madonna, Dido (it was their remix of Dido's "Thank You" that landed the two their first Grammy win in 2002), The Rolling Stones, and Brother Brown.

Deep Dish also own and run record labels Yoshitoshi, Shinichi, and Yo, among others. In addition, they also owned and operated a retail store (also named Yoshitoshi) in the Georgetown area of Washington, D.C., which closed in 2003, although their labels continue to release music.

^^^definitely as a predicted Sharam alone sucks ass and Ali rains supreme...although in the long run I think Sharam will make more money...not fair!

Re: Nick Warren - GU 30 Paris

Skipping through both CDs. It's a very melodic compilation, almost too feel-good. I thought CD1 was quite pedestrian sounding compared to what he did on Reyjavik and Shanghai.

#813336Post 136 of 148

Re: Nick Warren - GU 30 Paris

i like the melody, its nice someone still does plays it. Nick always plays some nice melodic progressive... I don't think cd 1 is as good as Rekjavik, but it is still good, and cd 2 kicks ass.

Re: Nick Warren - GU 31 Paris
Imo Nick Warren isn't that great of a dj from what I've heard. Track selection is always on point but mixing wether cd, or live has never done anything for me. whichever GU it was that he did with the track "dirty" ( obscene , dirty, filthy, immoral, etc) was one of the worst mixed cd's I have ever heard. No thought put into it at all. I guess he's the only one willing to keep it going, aside from deep dish. I agree with the above, new talent or just halt the whole thing.
i agree. GU003 Prague seems to be a true "live" as in it wasn't mixed by a computer in a studio. you can actually hear train wrecking... yes, wrecking on an album. i've heard nick warren livesets countless times and while his track selection is quite good all the time, his mixing abilities is beyond crap. wreck, sudden slam mixing galore. why he continues to get GU releases is beyond me. i thought he retired already...

Re: Nick Warren - GU 30 Paris

After about 13 listens, I have concluded this is a very solid alb. It carries well. In no means is it not epic on the other hand it is not a floater either. Nick always seems to pick out some bliss tracks that really shine out and he nails some big ones. I have found myself really enjoying listening to this in the morning or late in the evening. It just has a great feel to it. I really would ask you to buy the iTunes version if you can. For 9.99 you get the mix + a bunch of tracks. So way worth your money, and it is probably the only reason I sang'd it because of the bang per buck. I am not really down to drop $20.00 bucks on a miss, but since you get the tracks and the mix, it was way worth it. In retrospect, I would spend the 20 bucks.

Re: Nick Warren - GU 30 Paris

doesn't iTunes only give you 128 mp3s? anyway, i bought this last night and so far ii like it more than the other comp i bought this year, transitions 2

Re: Nick Warren - GU 30 Paris

they have their own compression and it is sworn to be better. I think it is 128, but honestly there is no true difference to the human ear. People always think that 320 is better. It likes taking a vitamin thinking it is vicodin and feeling better. Wow! My pain just went away. The human mind, o how I love the human mind.

Re: Nick Warren - GU 30 Paris

all of nick's CD's are recorded live. maybe in studio, but live on decks, he refuses the studio computer mixing and editing. polar opposite of sasha who has mixed everything on protools or ableton.

Nick Warren is a GREAT DJ .He really doesn't deserve to be slagged of by someone who probably has less than half his years behind decks (no offense intended) p.s. why the hell should he retire!!!

#824410Post 143 of 148

Re: Nick Warren - GU 30 Paris

he shouldnt. he is one of the few DJ's, sarsha and diggers NOT included, who can rip up any type of club on any random day. he can walk into a breaks club, a lounge, techno, trance, dnb, anything and do a wicked roof ripping job. show me a dj who does that and he gets the credit. one of the most well rounded guys on the planet, and still avoids leaving vinyl.

Great GU release ... I'm extremely picky about CDs, but both GU030 CD's are really great. We need more stuff like this.

Re: Nick Warren - GU 30 Paris

I decided I wasn't getting the mileage out of my CD's so I burned this one (along with some others) to get on regular rotation while in the car during work, so this one got a good few listens and I have to say that CD 2 is brilliant. I was going to jobs and not wanting to get out of the car until the CD had finished. CD 1 is OK, but nothing great. considering some of the shite people where playing back in 2007 overall a good release. I don't think I will ever get my head round Shanghai though.
