I started a thread on GU messageboard about this cd. I was sooo pleased with the reaction. I want to see what peeps on hear think about this cd as well. Classic fuckin mix, love both discs, especially cd 1(so smooth and flawless, tracks just melt into one another). Although Diggers Bedrock is probally my favourite mix from John(hard to pick a fav) I totally love this cd. So ahead of its time( the tribal sound became more popular a few years later) and great.CD 2 is some damn fine trance-y prog house. Anyway, you thoughts and opinions please......

John Digweed GU 06 Sydney appreciation thread
Re: John Digweed GU 06 Sydney appreciation thread
these discs were the first GU's i heard. me and my roomate at the time were having problems living together but i remember he came home with these one night and our problems were solved. so for me, those discs hold a special place in my heart. an ungay place i might add. classic cd's. i managed to talk him in to giving me the discs after a few weeks. :D
Re: John Digweed GU 06 Sydney appreciation thread
yeah me too, first GU i ever got..... still one of my favs
Re: John Digweed GU 06 Sydney appreciation thread
yeah Sydney and San Fran were the CD's that really turned me on to the electronic music realm.
Re: John Digweed GU 06 Sydney appreciation thread
it's a classic. i listened to it too many times when it came out. i tried it again recently, but couldn't listen to it, it's a bit outdated and again i heard it too many times.

can't remember... did you and your bro buy the Thrive releases of those? or the imports? seem to remember Thrive removing certain tracks off certain releases.
Re: John Digweed GU 06 Sydney appreciation thread
Classic CD. I only ever listen to CD1 though, which is possibly the best 'programmed' CD he's ever done. Every track was made for the next track if you catch my drift.
CD2 is ok, great driving music, but 3 of the final 4 tracks are very poor IMO, apart from Ylem.
Re: John Digweed GU 06 Sydney appreciation thread
I dare to say one of the finest CDs John ever made... Still timeless in my opinion. I like Disc 1 best.
Re: John Digweed GU 06 Sydney appreciation thread
Sydney was mixed using CDJs with tons of looping and it tells with some of the shit Digweed is doing on Disk 2 from "Autobahna" to "Stargazer". Vocals come in and out and his transitions are mellifluous. That stretch of tracks is one of hte best peak time stretches on a GU. Sydney is hands down my favorite GU.
Re: John Digweed GU 06 Sydney appreciation thread
sydney was my frst ever gu album - and remains the best util now. classic. cd 1 is just perfect.
Re: John Digweed GU 06 Sydney appreciation thread
Beautiful mix, one of my favorite GUs. I still play it every few weeks. In fact, I think I'll play it now. I love hearing Albion - Air come in. And both CDs have my all-time favorite opening tracks.
Re: John Digweed GU 06 Sydney appreciation thread
I was so close to playing GU 06 Disk One on my walk to uni this morning, but instead I listened to GU 09 Disk Two. Still, it's kind of spooky to then come on here and see that you've made a thread about it. It's a flawless set of CDs. What's also cool is that John talks about Perth, my home city, in the sleeve notes.
6 1/2 hour set…and I loved every minute, I've always liked Perth.
Re: John Digweed GU 06 Sydney appreciation thread
Great mix. Still pop it in every once in a while. But I agree both cds are aces. One of the classic GU's.

at first we had the original and then as always they were stolen or whatever and we ended up getting the thrive ones which I know for a fact that the San Fran was missing a track but I can't quite remember which track it was. i learned my lesson about that. Neptune used to keep the originals coming and then who knows what happened.
Re: John Digweed GU 06 Sydney appreciation thread
Brother Brown - Slap Me Some Skin :)

Re: John Digweed GU 06 Sydney appreciation thread
yes, by far the best one - then comes the sasha-ibiza one
Re: John Digweed GU 06 Sydney appreciation thread
still listen to it. wonderful CDs.
Re: John Digweed GU 06 Sydney appreciation thread
this was just avg for me... His # 14 hong kong really blew me away top notch GU imo 8)
Re: John Digweed GU 06 Sydney appreciation thread
i agree about the way albion-air comes in, great ending to a cd. I love the first cd. I do like GU14 just a little more, but this is one is easily one of the best GUs ever. listen to it all the time, disc one still sounds fresh to me. Diggers totally made an album that stood up to the test of time(also so did his Bedrock cd). I love cd 2 also, great trance from Diggers. This cd really showcases Diggers on his own, as opposed to the collabrative efforts with Sasha(which are totally kickass in on their own). I think i will listen to it right now, can't ever get enough of this mix. SO much depth and little subtle sounds on the first disc, complete mind fuck, yet totally grooving and danceable.8):Twilo:

Nice description! +1!
I agree 100%...this & Bedrock are my favorite Digweed comps...

the very fact that you have to dig it out, means u should be shot!!!!
nothing quite like driving to this beast of a cd. i always have it to hand! ;)
Re: John Digweed GU 06 Sydney appreciation thread
I think I prefer Hong Kong over Sydney most of the time, then again both are top-notch!
Re: John Digweed GU 06 Sydney appreciation thread
Great CD...a classic....but Bedrock 1 might be his best along with GU LA.

Yeah me too!!
Re: John Digweed GU 06 Sydney appreciation thread
hell yeah, everyone bust out their copy...becoming my fav GU of all time(along with GU14,of course)
Re: John Digweed GU 06 Sydney appreciation thread
I too played this on Friday (CD1) and it was as good as ever.
Does anyone else agree that it is absolutely fucking mental when the male vocal comes in during Hong Kong Trash......... 'SPIRITUAL' . If I heard that stuff in a club I'd go nuts.
And the mix between Brother Brown and David Alvarado is obviously legendary
Re: John Digweed GU 06 Sydney appreciation thread
i love what you just described. I always feel like if i heard this being played live in a club, i would completly lose my shit(especially if i was fucked up,but regardless). This is dark, mind fuck music at its best. Makes me jelous of those kids in Sydney in 98, they got to expierence this first hand. Diggers builds and builds into this sick frenzy by the middle of this mix, once you hear Elements, you know there is no going back.....Spiritual....
damn i think this is my favourite GU.....
Re: John Digweed GU 06 Sydney appreciation thread
ok, its 2:40am my time, i am drunk, and few other things(medicated...) just came in from a house party. got cd 1 on the player right now...Hong Kong Trash......, love it. wish the neighbor wansn't a cunt, i would have it CRANKED THE FUCK UP.
