Wondering what people here listen to other than progressive house and electronica. What genre do you listen to and what bands\groups?

I still listen to New Order Smiths Cure Depeche Mode ColdPlay The Beatles Rolling Stones (old stuff)

I haven't been able to get into anything new since all I enjoy is prog so I never listen to the radio.

Erm........, is all pretty much electronic actually. Not biased against bands or anything I can just always think of other stuff I would rather be listening too..

Rush does not suck. sure he is a neo-con, but he has some very good points, if anything he causes a train of thought. which is rare in many points, esp in todays' world.

I haven't really listened to anything but prog/house/trance/electro in a while now...I can't even remember the last album I picked up....I get urges now and then to switch it up and when I do I pick up old stuff I already have....can't really get into anything else

im the same way. i cannot fathom how long its been since i bought a non- EDM album. i just listen to the stuff i loved before digweed and nick warren ruined my life.

that, combined with the fact that 99% of today's rock is horrendous. i mean, comon, who is actually going to listen to incubus and say its good music. its like shit poetry on top of chessy experimental chords. add in how metalica has ruined themselves, bands like POD, and all these ghey wanna be punk bands....sheesh.

the onlyo rock bands that can be listened to are the killers and keane.

rock/rap mostly, I just have various songs on my ipod and play them all on shuffle by genre (incubus, RHCP, STP, AIC, stuff like that)

Rap would be whatever is hot at the moment like Farrell productions

I don't think he's OMG or anything, but the guy is just so easy to listen to. It's music for almost any situation, except a raging party (which is where 'skull fuck your sister techno' fits in)

I agree....rock music isn't the same as it used to be, at least for me. I can't get into any of these new bands out there, or even newer music released by bands I like. It just doesn't do it for me....the feel of the music is gone or something

they are trying too hard. when was the last time we had an album even comparable to dark side. they all try to get songs out year after year and tour. its all rushed and forced. you never hear a nice instrumental in a rock songt anymore. i just broke out my old type o negative albums and was like ''where are the actual musicians these days?'' now its just rejects who know how to strum a chord. the last truly great rock album IMHO was use your illusion. after that, i cannot find one bands that has made me say ''wow, this is amazing''.

dude, coldplay... right there is a great example. the band itself can play some wonderful harmonies, but has anyone actually read his lyrics? they are terrible. its like gweneth is writing them.

Question for you guys (not just Sean): How hard are you looking for new music? What I mean is if I didn't know any better and turned on WKTU (dance music radio station in NY) I could very easily dismiss all dance music as the endlessly cheesy crap they play. But there is whole underground that I wouldn't even know about, the likes of Diggers, et al.

Now I personally enjoy a lot of the current "popular rock" I hear, radio stuff, it is disposable and in general just filler so I'm not constantly listening to prog, but I still like it and see quality and art in some of it. However I have friends who are more on the cutting edge of rock (the way we are with EDM) and they constantly have long lists of new bands they love. Band who make complete albums. Band who aren't cheesey commercail MTV Radio crap.

So are you dismissing an entire decade of an entire genre based on MTV/radio? Sounds like some of you are stuck in that past. I know there are Elivs/Buddy Holly fans who couldn't get past the Beatles, nevermind Hendrix or GNR (that later being quite possibly the most overrated band ever, btw) so save me that "rock was better in my day" song and dance because it's all been said before, including about the stuff you love.

(Unless you're ready to acknowledge that all music has been in a state of decline since JS Bach, which I happen to believe)

there are some newer bands that i like...although not really rock: tv on the radio the decemberists electric 6 and wilco - not new, but an amazing band

i get around to a lot of rock and punk. brandon lane, the drummer from brand new, is my friend adam's roomate. i love the NYC rock clubs, and there are so many great underground guys who never get published b/c they arent marketable to MTV> imagine if jim morrison or janis joplin were on american idol, they would be edited into the comedic humor that the show has on its commericals. i just went to a bouncing souls show, saw stingray at the mercury lounge in NYC, and caught the roger waters showing. then i look on monday night footbal and see green day.........
