Well, personally I don?t hate the USA, far from it, buty then I don?t you have it THAT good either.

If there?s one thing I dislike though, is the fact that many americans act like they?re the center of the world and everything else revolves around the USA. Whatever doesn?t revolve around you, doesn?t exist. This is a commonly mentioned "flaw" so I guess I?m not giving you any big news.

Also, you guys got to realize (and I´m sure you do) that Bush makes you look really bad.

Most americans I met on the Internet hate the guy, so it baffles me and most everyone else how he got re-elected.

It´s like the Portuguese, our players took so many dives in the World Cup that I´ve already seen some foreigners think we´re all cheats, just the same as Belgians are seen as paedophiles (sorry, Kinky, you know there´s people who think that) because of a bunch of really bad cases of that.

I think that anytime you have a nation that possesses superpower status like America (and I don't mean that arrogantly, but in terms of economy, military, etc.), you're by default going to have a bunch of people who hate that nation...because that nation is pretty much by definition going to have more impact on issues that affect people across national boundaries. You can see this going back a long way in history. Many people will always hate the big kid on the block who has more influence than others. And eventually, the big kid on the block is toppled and a new one comes and takes the place. Repeat cycle ad infinitum.

the world always has a super power... we have been that super power for the past several decades, hands down (no, i'm not being arrogant...). our time is coming to an end and the next super power will be china, most likely. they brag about how much better they are too, it isn't just the US. soon, china will be more dominant than anyone and everyone will hate china... maybe then attention won't be on the US. maybe then we'll get some love. as far as bush, i'm not trying to make an arguement, but the media makes him out to be worse than he is. he ain't great, but the media doesn't do him any favors.

i dont really get the whole "bush makes you look dumb" thing. i think we get some type of critisism for every president we ever elect, it doesnt matter, so i think that comment is just people repeating what they have heard on the news once without thinking too much about it. granted he isnt the best public speaker, and has said some dumb stuff, but i think more of that is people just watching fahrenheit 9/11 and going with whatever michael moore said in his movie than seeing through that (but i can admit that i thought the movie was very good).

everyone hates us because we are a superpower right now and people are jealous. people say that we throw our weight around too much around the world but that i guess is because we can. the thing that gets me is it seems that every world catastrophe, or fighting that happens around the world, every country is quick to condemn it and demands that action should be taken, but doesnt send any troops to actually fix the problem. who does? the us. it is always us who have the most troops stationed in any conflict but everyone else bitches about us and that we arent doing enough when they dont send jack to make any type of difference.

on the other hand i can see why the arab culture hates the us. hollywood with all of its sex and violence which is shown all over the world doesnt put us in a good light, and if that is all you see coming out of the states, that and fear factor where us dumb americans are gouging ourselves on hotdog eating contests and chicks in bikinis doing stunts where everyone else in the world is starving to death...i am sure that pisses them off. oh and the fact that they see all of these gorgeous blone california babes on tv flaunting around and having sex with everyone, while their women are stuck in clothes from head to toe...that pisses them off too.

We definitely throw our weight around, much of that being more clear to those outside the states than it is to those of us who live here. We have had our fingers in just about every pie around the world since WWII, and our corporations set up shop all over the place and do a fair bit of exploitation of both people and natural resources.

I however do agree there is some hyprocracy to the anit-Americanism because we do kick ass in humanitarian efforts, well except for New Orleans. :what

For all I know, Bill Clinton still is very much respected and appreciated in Europe (at least mainland Europe).

And for the record I think Michael Moore is a buffoon.

Basically i think most countries hate us because we are free and can basically do as we please....plus we have alot of wealth which i think the rest of the world is jealous of.....

One reason would be that our government makes us look a like a bunch of hypocrites. Look at Afganistan... we armed and provided aid to warlords in order to help us weed out the Taliban and Al Qaeda and are now fighting those same warlords that we armed to help us. And even when we raided many bunkers, you can bet a lot of the weapons that were recovered were also manufactured in the US. We just keep adding to the stockpiles.

I'm sure jealously of the lifestyle we enjoy factors into it somewhat, but at this point, I suspect that is way, way down the list. With a few notable exceptions, most every country in the world liked us just fine after 9/11 and stood beside us. The change that has happened since then isn't the result of jealousy bubbling to the surface, it's a reaction to the policies we're implemented, specifically post-Afghanistan -- the policies of arrogance and wreckless bravado.

Yep, I?d say that?s an accurate assessment.

To give you our perspective, Portugal has for many years been a lot more influenced by anglo-saxonic and american culture (mainly music, movies and TV) than most countries in mainland Europe (like France, Germany, etc.).

Columnists here always pointed out the american democracy and even judicial system as great examples to all of us, to be admired. The way the underdog could succeed in your country always fascinated us. Your type of freedom was something to aspire to, since we had been under dictatorship until 1974. We still have an american airbase here. And we always fell head over heels over most anything new that came from there, only some left-wing minorities disliked the USA.

All that started to change precisely at the time you?re talking about.

Now, that doesn?t mean people over here hate the US now, but they sure are much less sympathetic. It really doesn?t matter if Bush is made off to be worse than what he really is. The fact that his attitude and policies are the focal point of this disenchantment.

The US is by far an empire now. I think we lost that status a long time. To people that don't live in the states it seems like everything is great but for the people that live we really now that we have the same problems as the rest of the world. The only problem is that when the US does soemthing the whole world finds out about. The global ecomony is to big now for there to one big supreme emperor. Right now there are lot of countries the US depends on just like there is a lot of countries that depend on the US.

it really isnt that hard to see, the u.s. is new to the world scene yet acts like its been running shit forever, overcomsumption abounds, most of the people are super ignorant, the government has no political philosophy anymore except to stack as much paper as possible (this can be said for alot of gov'ts tho), our policies in africa/3rd world countries, the abundant arragonce of the average american, the list goes on and on, the united states is the greatest social and governmental experiment in the history of the world and will always be remembered, but when you take a step back and look at things around you its dead obvious "why people hate the USA" and it isnt because "they're jealous" or "they hate our freedom".

i think you'll find that most people hate the usa because of the potential america possess yet what it uses that potential to do.
