These guys have always been under priced overachievers. They're held in very high accolades by many leading sources. Check out the reviews section.

Wireless stuff is shit tbh.. I know in B & O they only released a wireless transmitter and receiver a couple of months which is the best ive heard. I had a phillips wireless system for surround sound and it was pants, if u have a wireless lan connection in ur house forget about it.

Re: Surround sound in your house?

If you're on a budget, but want some absolutely stunning sound then look to Paradigm. Let your ears perform the ultimate test... but far out - bang for buck I didn't find anything close. I traded in my Bose for these instantly, and my neighbours have never had a good night's sleep since. ;)

Yeah I'm not expecting audiophile quality, this is more for ambient elevator music ;)

Re: Surround sound in your house?

As far as surround sound goes, The latest ones they have out now are those 7.1 systems.

Please do yourself a favor and don't waste your money on that highly overrated BOSE crap.

whats up with BOSE?

Re: Surround sound in your house?

It's just so overrated and overhyped. Price-performance ratio is absolutely out of the question. Just google around a bit and you might know what i'm trying to say.

Re: Surround sound in your house?

We have surround sound in the living room...i am too lazy to go look at what kind it is, but i know it sounds real good!

My point of replying however though was to let you know...I heard really bad things about wireless suround sound for your tv et etc. However, when we installed ours we just drilled a tiny hole in the floor behind the receiver/TV and then drilled tiny holes where were installing the various speakers...so there is only a tiny bit of wire showing through out the room. Thats always an idea :)
It's just so overrated and overhyped. Price-performance ratio is absolutely out of the question. Just google around a bit and you might know what i'm trying to say.
No offence Br?der, but that's a big load of Scheisse. The accesoiries like mounting brackets and such might be priced as if they were made out of gold instead of metal, but the speakers and systems are top notch.

Bose invests more money in acoustic research than any other company on the market. Thanks to the Acoustimass technology, they were the first to produce small surround speakers and bass modules which kick ass when it comes to deep tone range. They still have the smallest surround speakers (Jewel Cubes) around and they sound like a bell.

Apart from that, the quality of the material is very high. When I was still working at Bose Belgium, a guy returned a 901 speaker because a few drivers popped (the 901 is a stereo speaker with a matrix of smaller speakers - aka drivers - inside). The amazing thing was that it was a first edition 901 he had bought 25 years ago... and it was the first time it needed repairing

One thing you need to keep in mind though. Bose is an American company and they design their systems primarily for the US market. That means the sound will be a little different from what your European ears are used to. Why? First of all because there's a difference in "sound taste". Americans for instance tend to like a "wooly" bass (wooooom wooooom woooom), while we prefer a "dry" bass (woomp woomp woomp). You'll notice that slight difference when you pop in some EDM. This bass sound might give you the impression that you have less bass performance, but when you het used to it, you'll appreciate how deep they can go in comparisson to other systems.

Apart from that there's the issue of acoustic design. The majority of the houses in the US have a lot of wood in them, whereas we have brick/concrete walls. If you know a little about acoustics, it will come as no surprise to you that this has its effect on the dynamics of the sound. However, the new surround systems have ADAPTiQ technology, which customizes the sound to your room?s characteristics. Problem solved.

If you want a complete system (CD/DVD/tuner/amp/surround speaker) I'd say Bose is one of the best brands on the market. If you prefer to have all modules apart, go for a Yamaha amp combined with Bose or B&W speakers.

But - and this is probably the most essential thing you should keep in mind - sound is like color, taste and scents: completely subjective. Some people like to listen to classical music in surround, others prefer it in stereo. Some people like sound definition X, others go for Y. So the best advice I can give you is to get your ass out of your chair and head for a good audio store where you can listen to different systems and set ups.

Re: Surround sound in your house?

thanks Kinky. When I was in florida on my honeymoon my wife and I went in to a BOSE store in some outlet in tamp I think it was. Anyways this sales guy came over and asked if we would like to go to the auditorium in 15 mins for a demo so we did and after it I just wanted to buy them there and then, best presentation I have ever seen or heard.

Re: Surround sound in your house?

^^^ yeah I know, the training those sales guys get comes close to total brainwashing...

Re: Surround sound in your house?

ok Kinky, that sounds good what you're saying, doesn't change my opinion of Bose though. How much was the system you heard in Florida Shan? I bet it cost a fortune!

IMO Bose stuff might be good when it comes to top end, but it's just so expensive and you can buy a better stereo rig (or surround, whatever) for reasonable prices.

Good all around speakers are Klipsch. Great sound and a variety of prices.

Re: Surround sound in your house?

Defintely stay away from the wireless avenue. The technology just isn't there yet. Give it a few years to settle out and allow for the development of higher end transceivers...even then there will be the issue of plugging every speaker into an AC outlet, which sucks IMO.

I can not wait to build my own house in several years. I will be prewiring every room with at least 2-4 speaker connections @ key locations...I plan on running them all back to a central location where I'll have the whole setup integrated into the entertainment center.
the speakers and systems are top notch.

But not to make better speakers! Dr. Bose basically has his company set up to make as much money as possible on their overpriced speakers, and all the profits fund his own research, which is unrelated to helping you get better speakers.

They also spend a HELL of a lot of money on marketing. Way more than they spend on making good speakers.

As far as their 'kick ass' modules, you are just wrong. A little googling will show you that Bose speakers, as well as being way overpriced, really aren't that good. IE, their frequency response is crappy.

Save your money, don't buy Bose! I would taket the earlier suggestion and go with Paradigms, they are great. B&W are good too.

On another note, Dr. Bose is extremely smart, and his research is very cool.

Re: Surround sound in your house?

This might be the place to ask. I have a 25 year old pr of Bose 901 speakers that need refoaming.. I've seen refoaming kits on the internet but I don't want to stuff them up so any tips would be great!
