this morning at about 630 or so i was awakened to what basically sounded like a war zone from a movie. just loud bangs and the sound of a fucking airliner on my roof. so i jump up and run out back to the beach. well....... with the US Open (golf) starting today the flyby squadron was using republic airport, a small private airport 2 miles from my house, as a stagin area i guess. but they were fucking around over the water for like half an hour. it was SICK. they were buzzing the water, pulling rolls over fire island, generally playing top gun. it was the loudest goddamn thing i have ever heard. so i get dressed and head out to work and i use a road that passes the runway to republic. as im driving, they all start to come in for landing...... they were quite literally less than 100 feet above the road, ripping around in a holding pattern as they landed. and then one by one they were pulling in.

i dont know, i found this really cool to watch. it reallly was like a damn movie. and all the cars on the road were doing 5 miles an hour as every one was popping thier heads out of the window to see the pilots ripping around at 100-200 feet.

Cool. I had a go on an F18 simulator recently. It didn't move, but the controls were the real thing. Air Force pilots train on these sims and they open them up to the public for a price. What got me was how easy it was to fly the bastards. You point and the plane follows. OK, so most of the systems were on auto, but the instructor said that basically it was like flying the real thing.

yeah. birds fucking rock. In the Summer they do a squadron fly by over my house. I can usually get it to the tick tock. It's some Summer thing they do out of PDX. I start yelling and breaking windows. I love that shit. mmm fuck yes.

Seen that stuff often when i was really small...my grandma's house is like 300 ft from the military airbase, so I always used to go and check out the jets as they took off and landed. It never stops boring!!!

yeah, he says it is a bitch. he just finished schooling so he can apply for rangers, but he wants to fly if he can. they are so tough on the heli pilots its sick. all must have high grades, with engineering studies for some part, and then they might be looked at. he was telling me that they get training in case they are captured, and i told him if he is gonna get captured, just crash the fucking thing into as many pppl as he could.. lol.

True that. the Air Force does that kind of training.they call it Seer( I think thats the acronym). either way they use sleep deprivation, starvation and plenty of other tricks up their sleeve to interrogate the airmen that are going to be part of an aircrew. If oyu actually teach tha class the course which you go through is is on a totally different level of craziness. part of it includes raising a pet rabbit from day one and then towards the end, you have to kill and eat the rabbit for survival. it's like killing your friend or something ( especially at the point of delerium the trainees are at during that time). either way I'm glad I'm a maintenance tech

I was in the NAVY back in the early 90's and worked on the flight deck (USS America CV66). I worked on CAT1, I had a blast launching 14's and 18's also A6's (the list goes on). They are loud even wearing a helmet! That is what made my time in NAVY so memorable, the danger was the only downfall. But you have to live a little! To this day I love hearing the roar of a jet, it's in my blood now.

YE, dont forgot the hillsboro air show every summer around august or whatever (i think). my parents live like right by there and they always fly by. its some loud shit for sure.
