the NY group, at least a few of us, went out last friday to LOVE and caught three and lazarus... after HOLOSOUND of course. but holy fuck, me, rubyfucks, and carmen walked into the joint, and the BASS was moving. minimal music from the center of the earth is all i can say. no fluff, no electro stupidity, just deep and dark and chugging.

it was one of the few times where i was essentially sober, but COMPLETELY engrossed in the music. i honestly felt like i was in a relapse or something because this was the type of shit that garnered deep music the ""trance"" name when john and alex were ""the trance guys"" before the current monkeys ruined the word. wow.

oh yeah. three. spot on.

Re: lazarus last friday.... wow

not even close. it might actually be the deepest, darkest set i have ever heard. just these HUGE basslines and minimal sounding percussion and effects all over.

nice, glad to hear it was a good time. it's a shame he's only stopping by a couple of cities before heading back to the uk. i mean after all when you think techno...you think central florida.

Re: lazarus last friday.... wow

He's definitely got a unique sound. Came by to Singapore once and I happened to be at Zouk with friends. We didn't think know who he was then, but were pleasantly surprised. He signed his name on top of the DJ booth facing the dancefloor. So every week, someone thinks it's "Lazarus" playing again.

Re: lazarus last friday.... wow

I've come to realize that when he throws a studio mix together or a mix CD, that for the most part he really tries to do something different with it. Hence the reason that Nick Drake, NWA, The Beatles, etc. found their way into the E-mix from last Saturday. I actually enjoy it thoroughly when DJs think outside the box when putting a mix together. Unless I'm throwing it on while hosting a party, which is just about every other NEVER, then I'm listening at work, at the gym, or just on my iPod somewhere where I can appreciate the diversity and disect what the DJ was thinking. Don't think you'll find any of that stuff in one of his livesets though. Although I could be wrong.

When he played Fleetwood Mac's - The Chain @ The Get Lost Party in Miami that was one of my favorite caught off guard moments ever.... Worked great in a live setting.

Have been saving this mix for the drive to Bonnaroo tomorrow morning.
