Re: Serato Scratch Live :)

of course.

have they released the new version with looping capabilities yet? i know it's on the horizon. the live editing features is what Final Scratch has always had over Serato, will be interesting to see what rane came up with on the new version.

Re: Serato Scratch Live :)

I am seriously considering purchasing SSL... it seems to be the better choice over FS2, as everyone agrees that it is more stable and has better performance.

Re: Serato Scratch Live :)

Used it for a week now, and it's fantastic. A friend of mine is working in a big DJ Shop in my hometown and i was able to test both systems for a several hours. My friend told me before that they sold much more serato than fs1 or 2. And also some who bought FS returned it and got Serato instead. So i tested both and really must say that Serato had me from the first minute, beside all specials the really warm typicall Rane sound is what it is doing for me. FS sound to clean, to digital and thats was my main reason for a decision .. don't think that i will ever give my serato away ;)) only for Serato 2 ...

Cheers Johnson

Re: Serato Scratch Live :)

Never tried SSL. Used FS for awhile and liked it so I'm sure I'd like SSL.

Re: Serato Scratch Live :)

I've had serato for a while now and absolutely love it. Best vinyl emulator out there IMO. All they need now is integrated midi mapping and I'll be one very happy camper. The master tempo feature in SSL blows the pioneer's out of the water; making it the best harmonic mixing tool on the market.

I used it once and it was the only time I played on CDJs (1000) and this kind of software. the mixer felt nice, smooth and stable. although I had to get accustomed to with the players (thanx Pioneer for vinyl mode) it was fun. furthermore, seems like its very easy to setup and carry around -- the guy whose equipment I used brought the whole package - 2 CDJs, the mixer and the laptop in a flight case and set it up in matter of minutes and the thing fired up right away, I just had to plug in my portable HDD. if you like Serato, this might be your choice

Re: Serato Scratch Live :)

Posted in the Traktor thread but it applies here as well......

Here is a helpful tip...If you are using a Macbook/Macbook Pro....Plug Traktor Scratch/Serato into the USB port(USB 1) closest to you(The front of the laptop)...If you plug it into USB 2, you will get USB dropout. Dropout, for those who have no idea what this is, is when the signal gets cut out. When the signal drops out, it will cause the track that is playing to "pop" and when you are in the mix, it will cause one of the records to skip. This really sucks if you forget to plug into USB 1 and are playing out somewhere...Also, plugging into USB 2 will cause you to really fight with your mixes, making it really tough to cue up and mix a tune...So remember, kids, ALWAYS PLUG TRAKTOR SCRATC/SERATO INTO THE USB 1 PORT! :):)

Re: Serato Scratch Live :)

hmmmmm, do you mean the USB on the left or right side of the machine... there are no ports on the front of it...

okay, that still does not answer my question though...

My bad for the late response...If you have a macbook..The usb ports are on the left..Plug Serato into the port closest to you.

Re: Serato Scratch Live :)

Haha, looking at the left of the laptop, use the "right" port, the one furthest from the screen. This is a known apple driver issue, and effects all audio interfaces, not just SSL.

As for the Rane TTM-57, it looks like a very solid mixer (it's a Rane). My only concern is that it ties you to one digital vinyl system. Though I love SSL, now there's traktor scratch, torq, etc... and though nothing prevents you from using another DVS box with the 57, I'm just not a fan of the integrated approach. Though having the SSL buttons on the mixer IS kinda nice.

I have SSL, I currently have it hooked up to my CDJ-1000's. It really IS an awesome combination. You get all the features of your CDJ's, the looping and hot cues, the super-tight pitch accuracy, and you have all your music so easily accessible.

Re: Serato Scratch Live :)

okay I can see how that applies to MacBooks... but MacBook Pros only have 1 USB on either side...

#918634Post 31 of 37

Re: Serato Scratch Live :)

Hmm, not sure. I would open the system profiler and click on the usb audio busses with the SL-1 connected. If it shows your SL-1 on the same usb bus as the keyboard/trackpad, switch to the other port.

Alternatively, you can install "sidetrack", a thirdparty trackpad driver that does all sorts of things. It apparently fixes the USB audio dropout issue. The only bad thing is it doesn't support the two-finger scroll feature, you have to assign one of the sides of the trackpad to scrolling.

Re: Serato Scratch Live :)

it's cool, but it sounds like poo. boxy, tingy. Kinda like listening to your computer on big speakers, not so hot.

Re: Serato Scratch Live :)

What does? SSL? It sounds quite great actually...

Here's a set I did on Wednesday night with it:

http://www.ryanruel.com/mixsets/10_30_2007_Mix.mp3

I don't hear any audio quality issues. I do have a very high end mixer though (Rane 2016a).

Re: Serato Scratch Live :)

im servicing me macbook and im putting ableton and serato back on it, i have 1gb ram and 100gb hd.

can anyone recommend a system to make it run more effeciently?

Currently I have two logins, one for djing, the other for everyday use. The only programs I have on my laptop are Microsoft office, communication programs such as AIM/msn/yahoo/Skype etc for work and college.

Added files for general use as named above is 875MB in total.
My other added folder contains ableton and added files such as vintage warmer which comes to roughly 20gb My music comes to 20GB

I know its been asked a thousand times but can anyone give some advice on how to make it more smoother on running, the machines in perfect nick but out of 100gb i have just under 10gb free..... seems a little uneven...

thanks

It's better sounding on small systems or in home, but still lacking. On large scale systems it is more evident. I'm sure your rane mixer helps beef it up though. Though, I've heard the traktor system has a higher sampling rate and sounds better than serato, not sure on it's functionality though.
