Maybe its just because I find it the hardest place to get a gig and I live in California. But why the fook do people in LA have to be so LA?

Re:: Why is LA so...well....LA
yeah forget about LA, NYC'll show you a good time and we do it without all that BS attitude...we just get down and dirty :D

hahaha, funny video.
I have been out here in Hollywood since January. For the most part it's ok. I have come out here to work in the movie business, and have found it's not that easy. There are so many people out here trying to do the same thing I am. I have worked on a couple of projects, and am going to start interning at a very successful production company next week. I don't really like Hollywood though, very dirty, and packed with all sorts of shit.
Can't beat the weather though. peace, Steve
Re:: Why is LA so...well....LA
hey viceroy - you're not interning at Tollin/Robbins I hope. If so do I have stories for you...

Sorry about that. I don't know why most people here are that way. I know exactly what you're talking about though. I hope you make it big and throw sand in the face of all of the @rseholes that gave you a hard time. I hope I get to see spin soon too. :D
Re:: Why is LA so...well....LA
Admittedly, you really do have to sift through a lot of shit to find the right people here in LA.
In all honesty, those people who act stuck up are also those who are trying too hard to make it - they're not really there yet, and that's why they act that way.
Take my word, stick with LA just a little bit longer, and you'll find lots of really down to earth people.
I know a friend who came down to LA from San Fran just a few years ago. He had the same attitude as you - hated LA alot, but once he gave it some time he started to appreciate the city a bit more. It was too bad, though, that once he got things started he had to move back up after he was put into a coma from a freak car accident. :(
NOW COME ON with this...
puuuuhhlease, like the people in NYC are any different?? they do the same shit and act the same way, just w/ a NYC attitude. ever been to Miami? same shit, different time zone.
since i'm not from here (from Philly originally) here's my take on things :
$$$$$$$$$$ + fame + women + weather + density of people = the city of angels
LA/SoCal rocks!! it's the dopest place in the US bar none. you can do anything, see everything, hear everything, all while wearing shorts and a t-shirt. the ocean, the mountains, the desset.
if you have a major void in your life for quality people who are into the music scene, just say so. there's atleast 20+ peeps on this board in and around LA who are real and party in the right circles. it's a varitable who's who of music heads on MS.
- jumps down off the soap box *

Good vid, made me laugh.
I?m sure most places can be the same, london has it?s fair share of assholes and wanna be?s as well.
it's an amazing city. you need to give it time to appreciate it.
I'm kind of fed up as well. I can't get a gig anywhere to save my life :( The people that I have met (not ms people) are all self serving stuck up coke head ass holes, and they seem to have all these connections! It makes me mad..
I also don't have any friends to hit any of these events with. Probably won't go to Jonathan Lisle since I don't feel like going alone.
It took me a year to love LA, then I was really sad to leave it two years hence. I did make some amazing friends. Would love to go back, but not too sure about raising a family there.

You should go even if you go alone. I am sure you wont be the only person from MS there.

where and how often does Lisle spin?
Re:: Why is LA so...well....LA
I grew up back east and once was just another transient entering into the world of LA, but it honestly was an easy fit. You just have to be nice, if its in your nature to be nice, but don't be fake. It is true that people here are a lot more laid back and care-free, if you are too. If you aren't, then forget it. Its not that they are or aren't pretentious, its just they don't tolerate drama or crap. I found that quick. Gigs were easy, once I met the right people and just was myself with them and didn't try to blow dj smoke up their ass, remember it is business and sales.
In the words of Doo Doo Brown, be like a shoe... and just do it. You'll see it'll come easy once you get over the hump of the few a-holes you may run into who are pretentious and need to go back to where they came from.
:Bingo:

You see thats just the thing. We have hooked up almost everybody who has come to our town and asked if they could play. On top of that we have put most of these people up, cooked them dinner, and spent many a late night having fun. I find I get the same great care from most of the other places I have traveled in the world, but never in LA. And as I said before its sad because they are our neibor in California. Some of these same djs who have come here I have even offered to come and play for free just to visit with some firends in LA and still nothing. So go figure. Maybe they just think I suck!?!
LA is a very stuck up city. not as stuck up as Paris (and most of France for that matter) though :x

I've found this all to be almost completely the opposite from what you are saying. I found people here are full of drama and full of crap and full of themselves. I am the most laid back easy going genuinely nice person, and I found the people here who are DJ's to be completely the oppostite; self serving cliqueish ass holes..
Just my two cents
DJ's weren't born in a day, and finding gigs now is hard.....do the right thing, start producing while dj'ing on the side....
Re:: Why is LA so...well....LA
I found the people here who are DJ's to be completely the oppostite; self serving cliqueish ass holes..
yeah, but isn't that what being a DJ is all about? :unsure:

Like I said, I'm not having a hard time finding gigs at all, only in LA. Also, I am producing music, but thanks for the advice.

Wow, the irony is just delicious.
Your post in and of itself is full of drama and full of crap and full of itself ("I am the most laid back easy going genuinely nice person"). It really does fit in with what Socal7 was saying.
