Was really looking forward to this one - Sasha here for two nights, one big outside bash in the south and a Private Party at the Whiskey A Go-Go here in Tel Aviv.

Tickets were hard to come by, Vlads had to use all his charms in ways that Poto would have been proud. But f*ck it we got our tickets, cost us about $60 bucks a piece and Vlads pride. . . . but we were there.

The Whiskey A Go-Go is a lounge in part of the TLV club, imagine old star bar room with huge bar in middle of the room. Not created for dance, very small and intimate. Holds about 400 at a push!!!

All the signs for a great night were there!

Gotta say a huge bloody well done to Shlomi Zidan who opened for Sasha, first class job.

Heres the proof, the ticket. . . . .harder to come by than a pork sandwhich in Jerusalem, trust me!

Here Adina, my flatmate and partner in crime, about to break her Sasha cherry.

Vlads - and what ever pride he had left!

This one goes out to my fan in Bristol - pucker up Simon!

So thats all the pics, now the review!

I hadn't seen Sasha in a long long time (Dec 01 to be exact when he played b2b with Digweed at Lawlers closing Party in Birmingham). In that time I have heard some bloody fine mixes from the man, and some that I could have saved bandwidth on.

To be honest wasn't sure what to expect here, but I had a feeling seeing him in a small venue as opposed to huge outdoors thing would be better.

Musically he played some pretty fine tunes, for the most part, and the mixing was, in places, masterful. He toyed with the crowd and got us going.

Thats when he was really good; but there were times in the set where it was plain boring. I guess for about 25% of the time I was sitting on my fat ass wanting more from him.

Not in my opinion, the best night ever. But still worth every cent, or shekel to be precise.

I thought I might be too critical, so I asked Vlads and Adina what they thought - they both enjoyed it very much. I think I trust my opinion a little bit more!

Still really pleased we went, for at the end of the day, Sasha being good for only 3/4 of the set is still a fucking good night out.

I applaud sleeping your way into getting what you want with golf-claps and one raised eyebrow...

Sasha in a small venue is all about making the really-good-moments really-stand-out by teasing and then timing a punch to hit at suprising times... making what isnt in your face hard stuff feel quite strong indeed... I loved an intimate setting for Sasha cuz it seemed and felt a lot more gourmet if you know what I mean?

Re: Sasha - Tel Aviv 1.6.06

nice review dave, looks like a good time man!

one question, i used to record 102fm, and they used to always play zidan @ tlv like all the time every thurs/fri. once they downgraded the internet stream the quality is shit.

anyway, is there any hope to getting ahold of a nice recent opening set from zidan? would love to hear what he is up to lately.

I'm with you on this one Mike...seeing him at cielo with a few hundred people was a totally different experience. He played differently, and gave us some really interesting things to listen to that night. Very gourmet.

and also....you should tell us what your friend had to do to get y'alls in. I know I'd be happy to share whatever it was I had to do to get in.

The vast majority of the the crowd was 30 plus. . . . . . . . . . . thankfully (nothing against you youngsters, but if you've ever been here for a normal club night you'd know what i mean!)
