what about Cubase SX 3.0?

I'm planning on buying Cubase SX 3.0...I know many of the top producers out there use it and I don't consider $600 to be a hefty price for its potential....does anyone have any idea how easy/difficult it is to use?

Re: what about Cubase SX 3.0?

It runs pretty much like other sequencers out there. Figure out how to record audio, MIDI, use softsynths, and you're halfway there.

I haven't gone very far into its included softsynths, though, but I will say that Logic's bundled synths and software effects are very good (considering that they're bundled). I know you need a Mac to run them, but it really is worth the price tag.

Re: what about Cubase SX 3.0?

I would say logic's included stuff >> cubases' But if you get VSTs, then they are better then either IMO...

Re: what about Cubase SX 3.0?

I found it very hard to use until I picked up a book on it. I'm still going through the book but the stuff im learning is invaluable. I would start by going out and getting a book on it.

Cubase is great.

Re: what about Cubase SX 3.0?

The top tier apps are basically going to be the same. Some may have a feature that the others don't.

Plug ins will determine how robust your system will be...

Re: what about Cubase SX 3.0?

I love it!! Best program out there. Besides cubase 4 now.

Takes a little time to learn to use it efficiently but once you got it you got it. Make sure you buy lots of vst programs because it is essential in cubase unless you are using hardware.

I would recomend native instruments for your basic vsts like battery(drums) pro53(synth) absynth(synth) and fm7 is also a good starter plugin. synth1 is a good starter also.

Re: what about Cubase SX 3.0?

I use both Ableton and SX3. I use SX3 mostly for mastering my track that I did in Ableton. I just find the interface in Ableton easier to use. And bouncing several samples into a multitude of clips is extremely helpful.

Re: what about Cubase SX 3.0?

I use cubase for mastering with waves diamond package and mainly reason for making tracks along with abelton as the interface is easier and quicker to use.

Re: what about Cubase SX 3.0?

I personally find that the bundled plug-ins in Logic are far better than those in Cubase (although i am yet to use Cubase 4) ... the workflow in Logic seems better too.

Re: what about Cubase SX 3.0?

Go buy ABleton and then spend the extra money buying the new Aturia Jupiter vst. That thing is gonna be HOT!!!!

Has anybody bought FM-8 yet? ... it looks awesome!

Re: what about Cubase SX 3.0?

i still barely use FM7. I've been finding so many great FREE plug ins all over the net that I'm finding less and less I use the bigger programs.

Re: what about Cubase SX 3.0?

have you come across any reverb plugins you could recommend? ... the cubase ones are awful!

Re: what about Cubase SX 3.0?

i dont care what anyone says about ableton or any other daw, cubase is the daddy and always will be :D

Re: what about Cubase SX 3.0?

try www.kvraudio.com and do a plug-in database search for reverb vst's. You'll find something that probably works really well, and is free.
i dont care what anyone says about ableton or any other daw, cubase is the daddy and always will be :D
YEs indeed. Most non cubase users just never took the time to figure it out. I still use ableton for vocal manipulation though.

And someone asked about fm8. It fckin rocks. I use it alot. WAAAYYY better than fm7

I disagree ... I've been using Cubase longest and the routing is still pretty poor in comparison to Logic.

Plus Logic has EXS24! :D

Can't wait to get my hands on FM8 though!

Re: what about Cubase SX 3.0?

yes or try before buy, even better solution! :D and rather spend money on some nice monitors! Cubase is nice, only real sidechain is missing, i mean there are couple of kind a, but Pro Tools is still grandfather in sound quality!

Re: what about Cubase SX 3.0?

they all have the same quality. it all boils down to what your preferences are, and general liking og the product. I happen to really love Ableton, it's very easy to use and can do everything any other program can do.

not true, they have different bit depth on summing channel...

Re: what about Cubase SX 3.0?

dude, my ableton can do 24 bit 196Khz recording and playback. And that's way more than you really need.

Re: what about Cubase SX 3.0?

I would assume that each DAW would dither your track differently, producing a slighlty different sound.

#863761Post 26 of 29

Re: what about Cubase SX 3.0?

well considering we all hear sound a bit differently. That really ends up being only of question to the one producing and composing the music. Like everything else...it's just a matter of personal taste.

Re: what about Cubase SX 3.0?

personally i find ableton fiddly to write with but i would import samples in there for the effects

Re: what about Cubase SX 3.0?

It's hard to learn but WELL worth it. I have used all the other production software and cubase OWNS!!!

#871186Post 29 of 29

Re: what about Cubase SX 3.0?

it's not hard to learn, it just seems that way because, it's not like reason, where everything is prepared to work.u just need some knowledge about midi, that's all.
