Re: 14.5ft hammerhead shark caught off florida coast
Not sure if you guys have ever been fishing before but it's hard to get an accurate assessment of your catch before you reel it in. There's no way he would've known it was 14.5' and 1262 lbs. Sure he knew it was big, really big, but no way he could've guessed that he would set a record.
the problem is that a fish that size will exhaust itself to the last leg. Marlins are known to give their last run to the bottom of the ocean to die during a fight on a fishing line.
The guy could have cut the line when the shark was near... Kill what you eat is what I believe. There are so many mutha truckers that shark fish of off Florida all the way up the East Coast for competition where the sharks get killed and they don't even eat it. WTF?
Remember Jaws and how everyone started killing off great whites? They were close to becoming extinct and when their numbers dropped, seal populations sky rocketed since great whites are their natural predator. I'm no tree hugger, but its a shame that a shark 14ft long had to get killed for a picture. Imagine the life that shark went through to survive to get that big.
I fish but I let go everything except what I eat.
