Re: 14.5ft hammerhead shark caught off florida coast

thats so fucking retarded, Sharks are shallow water predators, man lurks near virtually all shallow waters, they just keep killing all sharks lurking in shallow waters and then they worry about declining populations of the species.

pure stupidity, just trap the damn thing and relocate it

Re: 14.5ft hammerhead shark caught off florida coast

Damn, it says that the fish drug the boat 12 miles away from Boca Grande pass. My family had a beach house in Boca Grande for about 10 years but they have since sold it. The tarpon fishing is awesome there. I have been fishing for tarpon in that pass plenty of times. I can recall at least 2 different times when people have hooked a tarpon and while fighting it a shark comes and just destroys it.

I agree....very sad that a creature like that had to die :( Sharks are one of the most misunderstood creatures. They don't intentionally harm humans....she should have been left in the ocean.

Not sure if you guys have ever been fishing before but it's hard to get an accurate assessment of your catch before you reel it in. There's no way he would've known it was 14.5' and 1262 lbs. Sure he knew it was big, really big, but no way he could've guessed that he would set a record.

the problem is that a fish that size will exhaust itself to the last leg. Marlins are known to give their last run to the bottom of the ocean to die during a fight on a fishing line.

The guy could have cut the line when the shark was near... Kill what you eat is what I believe. There are so many mutha truckers that shark fish of off Florida all the way up the East Coast for competition where the sharks get killed and they don't even eat it. WTF?

Remember Jaws and how everyone started killing off great whites? They were close to becoming extinct and when their numbers dropped, seal populations sky rocketed since great whites are their natural predator. I'm no tree hugger, but its a shame that a shark 14ft long had to get killed for a picture. Imagine the life that shark went through to survive to get that big.

I fish but I let go everything except what I eat.

Re: 14.5ft hammerhead shark caught off florida coast

+1 Speciale....kill to eat, not for the fun of it. It's this misplaced macho hunter attitude that we don't need right now which makes us the species to be feared the most on this planet. And we're using damn high tech weapons and tools for it...what's the sport in that anyway? tssssssssss.....
