A friend gave me some tickets to go see this guy in Jacksonville. Don't really know anything about him. Has anyone seen this guy and what did you think about him?

Re: DJ Icey???

.. people crack me up. If you like florida breaks go see him, if you don't like florida breaks then don't.

Re: DJ Icey???

I saw him quite a few years back, he played some massive breakbeat remixes of classic rock songs, which I found totally unique. I heared a sweet Cars remix and BOC's "Im burning for you". Hes got a creative sound, which I found enjoyable.

Re: DJ Icey???

Saw him probably 10 years ago. At the time it was pretty good, but then again I was a glowstick waving, candy wearing, freak.

Not really, but it was pretty good given the state of mind I was in.

Re: DJ Icey???

Re: DJ Icey???

Go. He is a great dj and he puts on a show. Breaks or not, this guy is good at what he does and how he does it. I have seen him about 6 times in my life, and I am always happy to hear more. solid guy.

Re: DJ Icey???

^ agreed. i always thought he was a good dj. i've seen him a couple times and although i wouldn't d/l any of his sets if my life depended on it, the live shows i have seen were actually really good.
Where did you see him play at? Last time I saw him was at the edge. The first time I ever saw him was when he was opening up the edge and he was playing 80's progressive. I haven't seen him since. I never got into the breaks scene because I was always listing to Andy Hughes or Chris Fortier play.

Re: DJ Icey???

I agree. If you're a fan of the breaks, go check it out! Free ticket, it'll be fun!

Sometimes a little 'breaks' are good for the soul.

Re: DJ Icey???

Listening to funky breaks is like sucking lemons. Takes the pleasure right out of you.

#601113Post 20 of 60

Re: DJ Icey???

I've seen him a couple of times in the last few years (against my will for the most part), and he didn't play FL breaks. He was playing more nu-school breaks. Not my cup of tea, but yes, he's good at what he does.

#601119Post 21 of 60

Re: DJ Icey???

so what are you trying to say about nu-school breaks?????????????
so what are you trying to say about nu-school breaks?????????????
what's it to ya? ;)

I like some (not all). But anything Icey plays is gonna have a certain cheese factor to it, imo.

Re: DJ Icey???

i grew up listening to florida breaks, while i loved it at the time (mid-late 90s) i havent listened to it since i got into house circa 2002/3. although i must say that the nu-skool breaks is pretty good, and look more like the future of breaks than the funky breaks do.

Re: DJ Icey???

icey is definately worth seeing a few times, he brings back that old school flavor break wise that i love whenever i catch him... several times he was thrillmatic up here and several times in dc/bmore.

Catch him while you still can!!

#607746Post 36 of 60

Re: DJ Icey???

I would go see Icey....infact DJ Icey is here on Thursday in the Orange Room at the Guv's massive Decadence lineup.

I say be your own judge. Everyone has their own tastes....just because other people don't like Icey, it doesn't mean you can't like him.
