Re: The most awkward place in the world

Pfff...if it´s people who I don´t really talk to anyway, I just say "hi there"...let them strike up a conversation if they want to. Let them worry about what to say.

If it´s coffee break, maybe I´ll say "boy this coffee sucks"

 @ Jenks.

and I have to agree with Jeff on this one... as soon as I saw the thread name, I immediately thought of that bed that I shared with MJ two of six nights in Miami. definitely the most awkward place in the world.

Re: The most awkward place in the world
My social skills are second to none, but like I said I can't stand small talk. I have no problem carrying on an intelligent conversation about the affairs of the world but that's probably the last thing people want to do as they spoon vegetable beef soup into their pie hole.

Here's the dilemma in my eyes: If I walk in and say 'So, it sure is hot out there' then when I leave, people will think 'Boy, that was a stupid thing for him to say.' But if I walk in and out without uttering a word they'll think 'Boy, that guy is a real asshole.'
i couldnt agree more. i am a very social person, but with my friends and with people who arent boring lifeless droans. i have many friends and when i am with them, i often wont shut up. but with co-workers i avoid the crap out of them. i eat at my desk, or go out to eat. small talk just plain blows.
(bowling in yer underpantz is quite a refreshing experience i can add)
I'm almost affraid to ask what balls you were bowling with

But to get back on topic: I'm happy that I've started my own business, however, it's the contact with colleagues I miss the most... Ok, I socialise with the people that work for me as well as the employees of my clients, but it's not the same anymore. I constantly have to watch my mouth and make sure I keep some distance...

You work at home all alone Yao? That's sth I couldn't handle at all I think :|

Re: The most awkward place in the world

i would love to work from home...

my manager does, because he bought a house in southern california, and then the company closed the plant down there, so he stayed at his house and works from home most of the time (flies about a bit to various locations

It's allright as long as you have enough of a social life outside...which I'm glad I have!

Re: The most awkward place in the world

I going to have to go one better as the MOST awkward place in the world:

The locker room of the gym at work. I was getting changed to go for a run and one of the guys from legal comes in. Put it this way: you don't want to see your coworkers in their underwear. :Who:

Elevators are no picnic either

Re: The most awkward place in the world

So the solution to this problem is simple. You get a wireless headset and act like your on the phone everytime you go to get water. No one will bother you then. Just wave at em on your way out.

I second this, the elevator up to the office may be a bit more awkward cause you can't leave.
