not dissing the guy, but...

at what point do you just get bored of DJing? at what point is it 'just a job'? does Diggers' still wake up and think 'god i can't WAIT to put on a pair of headphones tonight'? how much music can you really listen to without it all being a big blur?

just thinking out loud...

Re: Do you think Digweed is bored?

hmmm.....my thought is that if he were bored, he would just stop doing it. If you are a dj you aren't really in this for the money and fame....you are in it for the love of the music and making people happy.

Re: Do you think Digweed is bored?

I don't know if he's bored, but I haven't loved one of his sets in years. I still think that only the mighty Sasha can mix better at times. You won't see me missing his gigs anytime soon though.

no way digweed is bored, he seems very stoked to do his transitions show, and is always commenting on the top quality of dance music out these days.

Re: Do you think Digweed is bored?

I don't think there's even the slightest chance of him currently being bored.

He started to push a more ducks "electro" sound a few years ago, and you can really here the perseverence has paid off in recent sets. The quality of tracks which fits that certain feel has improved immensely since he's started playing it, and so has his ability to play that soft of stuff.

When I heard him towards the end of last year it was a very different set to the one I heard him play the same time the year before. Which one blew me away more? Very hard to say, both were the most amazing nights I've had out, and I've been doing this for way too many years now....

But one thing's for sure - seeing home nightclub, which handles a capacity of around 3,000 still packed to the rafters at 7:30am after he's been on the decks for somewhere around 6 hours truly is a sight to witness. NO ONE was prepared to leave and no one did. The club was still at totally full capacity. Can't say I've seen any other DJ even come close to keeping that sort of crowd in the doors.

Now I know he's still doing this in every city gig in, gig out... You can't make that sort of thing happen if you no longer have the passion. No one can no matter how good you are in your chosen field.

Re: Do you think Digweed is bored?

I am sure eventually he will reach that point. But with technology changing so much it is kinda hard to get bored with djing & music in general. You have to look at it djing relies heavily on technology advances. As long as things keep progress forward I think it would be hard to get borded.

Yep, we got your drift Ska. Im with you on that one too....Diggers has been really hit or miss for almost three years now. Seems like the progressive fans are truely divided by this new sounds. Some people hear it and dislike it, and others like it without knowing any difference. I dont think Digweed is bored of playing. If he didnt want to do it, he wouldnt. However, the opposite is true for me....Im bored of Digweed. I havent even had the steam to want to go and catch a live set of his at the local clubs. :what - There are too many other up an coming Djs that keep the music where I like it....deep, dark and dirty....thank God for the Greeks and Aussies!

Re: Do you think Digweed is bored?

i don't think "if he didn't want to do it, he wouldn't" is entirely true... he's so popular, he might feel like he needs to do it... for the people.

It wouldn't be far off, I was lucky enough cough to be at a festival recently which Morillo was headlining. Festival was nothing too massive, about 12,000 people, with quite a large DJ lineup. Morillo got $25,000 for doing the afterparty alone.. in a club which is lucky to hold more than 350 people.

I saw S&D together quite a few years back, maybe around 2000, in Memphis,TN. I talked with one of the promoters and he said that Sasha and Digweed costed $35,000 for a seven hour set, which breaks down to $5000 an hour together. Not sure what the going rate is today, but I would assume that each one is between $2500-5000 an hour, depending on location and amenities. One thing I cant figure our is how they play less econmically viable countries like the Czech Republic, Hungary, etc. When I caught Sasha in Prague, tickets were 300 korun, which broke down to $10 a head. In a club of 1000 tops, thats only a $10,000 night, so how they can afford to pay for mainstream headliners, I dont know, unless the headliner takes a big cut in pay and does it for the hell of it.

Ludicrous comment. Whether he's bored or not, I doubt it's the DJing part which he would be bored with - as long as he's playing music he geniunely likes. It would be the relentless travelling. When DJing around the world, the travelling is what you get paid for really. Sitting in airport lounges, being driven to places, or catching trains, being in hotels, away from your family and friends. It's a real pain in the arse.

Most eastern European clubs that bring in big names use sponsor money to bring them in and keep the door price down.

Re: Do you think Digweed is bored?

Electro or prog, imagine how much music he gets inundated with. But he's still picking out the tunes and putting them together for a show. And they're nothing cheesy. So I don't hear him being bored with the music he plays much as I dislike that electro crap (which is unfortunate because electro can be good, but it's gone all pete tong with everyone latching on and playing more trendy crap than good music).

Re: Do you think Digweed is bored?

I'll gladly trade jobs for a day ! For anyone that's creative and loves music you can never get bored - the things that suprises me is that the musical search would normally be for things with greater depth (e.g. film scoring, or expansive multi-tracked albums) ... I'm afraid that some of the current music JD plays simply won't have the longevity of a few years back. Maybe JD thinks he's hip and getting down with things by playing what he does presently - in my mind he seems to have changed and moved to the type of stuff Luke Fair and Desyn play (only Luke and Desyn do that type of thing far far better). Hopefully things will reach a resolution at some stage and he'll get back to the dark deep prog fused with more dynamic/eclectic music.

Thats funny that you say that because Luke and Desyn are very much John's right hand men much like James Zabiela was to Sasha. I think John turned these two on to the sound that they are playing today, however, like you said, Luke and Desyn are way better at playing it. Interesting point!

Re: Do you think Digweed is bored?

I say it depends where and when hes playing from the sets that surface to the various places I' ve seen him, slapped together with his KISS/Transition sets His musical tastes are as varied as Danny Howells Big difference between a 3 hrs Digweed set and 7or 8 hrs set, that's why he gets ALL the best tracks from producers globally before anyone, people trust his instincts musically.

Re: Do you think Digweed is bored?

Seeing how hes in his mid 40s....he is probably a bit bored. Digweed is one professional djs and thats for sure, so he will never stop doing it. he has his fans to play and not to mention he made bedrock label which is fucking massive.
