Does anyone else get annoyed by the ABUSE of the light / laser show put on while a dj is playing... first of all let me say that i am not against the lights / lasers shows normally, but this last weekend i went to a club in my hometown and these things were RAPING the place... every sound, every beat had a different fuckin light and it got to a point where i wanted to go up and rip the cords out of the laser guys computer... it was a smaller club so there was really no hiding from these things either... im one that goes to listen and bump to the music, and i feel that too much light/laser action takes away from the entire show and what the dj is doing up there... ive never been put through something so gruelling otherwise it wouldnt have bothered me... so a friend and i asked the resident dj who played previously if he thought the lights were a little bit too much tonight... he justified them as being a great accessory and they make the music better... I absolutely agree i told him, but there are times when the fuckin things just have to stop moving and flashing so people can appreciate just what the dj is doing up there without the blinding of the lights in their face... needless to say he went and told the light guys and they flashed the green lasers directly at my buddy and me... which i guess was pretty funny now that i think of it but so LAME and i wont go back to that club again... regardless just thought i would A) VENT and B) ask opinions/feelings about lights/lasers @ the club... if thats how people appreciate the music with lights ill find other places to be... personally i can do without them, give me a dark room and some good tunes and im set... cheers all enjoy the weekend! :Cheerz:

Re:: Lights, Lasers, etcetc.

yeah, and i fucking hate glowsticks too.

You'd think that dance music and rave/club culture would drop a more than 10 year old clich? and move on rather than remain stagnant. It just makes it more and more laughable with how we refuse to think outside of the formula when it comes to concerts, dj performances and trying to innovate.

Re:: Lights, Lasers, etcetc.

personally i wish there was more of this stuff. lazers, strobes, dry ice. i can't stand the veneer of respectability that promoters seem to think they have by having a 'classy' set up. its an entertainment show, the more the merrier.

That is because you are probably one of those sketchy people who stand there like a zombie starring into the abyss :Rolling: :shock: . People who dance don't like it because it makes us dizzy. Even closing your eyes doesn't help sometimes

they're fine as long as they are used correctly...besides some of those lasers are EXPENSIVE to buy (tens of thousands of dollars no problem; more for color), run, and maintain...if they're used at a pretty high rate, they'll just die faster and need to be repaired more often...:? Unfortunately I don't think most people realize this and think they are just a bunch of toys.

Best laser effect I've ever seen was a colored tunnel...you literally felt like you were going through some space/timewarp continuoum...:shock:

I guess I'm partial to this because I work for a laser show company...:wink:

Lasers are fun!! :twisted:

#230474Post 12 of 29

well i think that lasers are good to an extent.. i mean i just wanna go for the music but if there are losts of flashing lights then it does take away from the music ive gotten headaches from too much lasers also... but they should also go with the beat i mean if thers a pause dont turn the lasers on.. set the mood but not with massive amounts of lasers..

oh and also smoke machines bug me too... whats the point.. what mood are they tryin to set.. or are the just tryin to suffocate us?? body heat and smoke... sumtimes i cant breath and i have a nssty habit of smoking :x.. so i feel sorry for thoes who dont smoke.. they must have it worse... :(

without smoke you cant really see the lights...smoke machines are antiquated, kryo is the way to go , when you are all hot and they turn it on , its the best thing in the world! it lowers the room temperature up tp 30 degrees....and yes lights have to be on beat and programed to fit the music

Re:: Lights, Lasers, etcetc.

I like lights and lasers to some extent, as long as they compliment the music and dont try to be a show in and of themselves. So long that the person running the lights has a clue as to what is going on as far as where the music is going. Smoke machines suck, they stink and its smothering. BUT, what I do like is the clubs that use the dry ice effect, not sure if that is what it is, but it is so awesome dancing up a sweat and being hit with a nice cold rush of air. When I was at the Digweed show in south beach at Nerve during WMC, they did that 3 or 4 times thru out his set during some of the build ups. That shit was crazy you cant see your hand in front of your face, or the person right next to you, but you can feel them bumping into you.

#230564Post 18 of 29

I think they are good when they are used an accessory to a good set, not constantly in your face.

#230569Post 19 of 29

I`ve normaly got too much other shit going on in my eyes to worry about lights and lasers :oops:

#230574Post 20 of 29

lol :lol:

#230579Post 21 of 29

I like lasers that are very bright, stay above the crowd, don't move too often, and when they do move, it's synched with the music. I hate strobe lights with a passion because as was said above, that shit makes you dizzy. I've been places with very bright strobe lights that never stopped. Had to get out quick.

Kryo rocks.

don't wanna blow all that cash...in some ways I don't blame them :lol: actually that model was so old, the newer ones probably cost even more now.

I still love 'em either way...:D Such a trip on the mind...

#230957Post 25 of 29

i like lights and stuff, but sometimes its overdone. i dont like having to try and dance around a bunch of fucked up kids standing staring at lights :AssKicki:

The more lasers, strobes, smoke, and C02 blasts the better.

That's what I'm paying my money for...If I wanted all the hot songs mixed for 3 hours, I'd throw my own party....with lights.

I wish. Well, not really. I had my fun as a kid. I still have one get out free jail card ... that is to see Sasha and Digweed for 8 hours in London on Mitzus. That will be my final good bye.

Chances of happening ... NevAr.
