not a big fan of the i-pod despite all the great things i keep hearing about them. i've messed around w/ one and a Nano and realize its great and easy to use, but i just want to go with a different mfr. i've been looking at Creative, Rio, and Dell. Tonight i've noticed some I-river and that's about as far as i want to take it, unless you know of another mfr. that puts out good stuff. What i want : -10-40 gig at least -good sound quality (like I-pod) no hiss or static -loud -lightweight -easy to use - no upper scroll mechanism like the Rio that i've read tends to break -easy to transfer data and mp3 files onto - essentially a portable harddrive -MUST MUST MUST - be able to withstand the cold - it's going to be going skiing/snowboarding w/ me alot in Summit County, CO -so cold conditions, need at least 12-24hrs+ battery life with a single charge am i asking too much? is my only answer an I-pod? i hope not. let me know if you know of or own something that is in this range that i would like. I've got about $250-$350 at the very most to spend... thanks alot for any help, - Mike btw, ATTENTION! ACHTUNG!!! ---- never buy an Archos product in your lifetime. They put together shotty mp3 players, one in which i've owned that's given me nothing but trouble since day one. Their customer service went from the depths of hell to now just completely terrible. And now that my player is completely broken, only 2 yrs old - it's discontinued and they say cannot be repaired. Never give this company your hard earned $$$ - just a warning. I told myself i would pass on the word.

Re: i have about $300 to spend and i'm feeling anti-i-pod

LOL! @ the thread title

whats wrong w/ an ipod? for 300 bux you can get a 30 gig color video one, ive never got the whole "anti-ipod" thing. they rock and are easy to use, i have a non-color 20 gig one and i love it, its filled w/ a ton of tunes and sets ive gotten from off of here. If i had a color video one, id be alot happier (ill prob. cop one in a few months) id def. go with the ipod :Bingo:

also if you have 250-350 to spend, you might just want to throw down 50 more bux and cop the 60 gig color video ipod, cuz that one is just insane and you'll love yourself for buying it.

Re: i have about $300 to spend and i'm feeling anti-i-pod

iPod sound quality bites.

I've always been a big fan of the Sony's. Their new model is pretty hot, and so is the last model.

They only go up to 20 gig though.

what do you all think of this badboy for the price??? http://store.yahoo.com/tech1global-store/noname11.html

Re: i have about $300 to spend and i'm feeling anti-i-pod

ahhaha.... wow.

So you want something exactly like an ipod but.... not an ipod. Just because you want to do something different? Its a little piece of hardware, it isn't defining your role on this planet. It fits all your criteria perfectly.

Don't buy anything creative or sony in your life. You are better off lighting that 300 bucks on fire.

AHAHAH.

Dude. Don't buy shit from that "store". Again. Better off lighting your money on fire. You will give those guys your CC# and before you know you will have 4 flights to Ft.Lauderdale and 4 cruise vacations booked on that bitch.

Re: i have about $300 to spend and i'm feeling anti-i-pod

I have a Creative Zen series, and I love it. It does everything the iPods does, plus much more. research it.

head to the strip club IMO... Just kidding, I'd buy an xbox 360...although that might be cumbersome on the slopes.

Re: i have about $300 to spend and i'm feeling anti-i-pod

Some major choices:

I-river H320 or H340 series (hard to find though) Creative Zen Vision:M Cowon iAudio x5 series

The I-river H3xx series is by far the best of the 3, but near impossible to find. If you hate Itunes, then make sure the player you get supports UMS (Universal Mass Storage), basically, plug and play HD access.

Re: i have about $300 to spend and i'm feeling anti-i-pod

dude, get a PS3 and the huge memory chip. you get mini DVD player, Ipod, video games, and more in one. you can put anything on them, even windows. has WIFI too.

all you need is the memory chips they sell all over, and a chunk of free time to download all the mods to it.

^ They paid that whore.... she isn't volunteering.

A campaign like that is pretty pathetic imo. Using a pornstar in your ads is bottom of the barrel.

Re: i have about $300 to spend and i'm feeling anti-i-pod

^^ as oppossed to Jessica Simpson pimpin pizza? I don't know.. some people will say screw ipod and others will laud their title as numero uno mp3 player... all i'm going to say is choice is a good thing... i purposely bought my Zen because A. I live in the inner city where people get shot over shit like this (yes, i could change the headphones blah blah and I could still get shot but mine doesn't stick out as much)... and B. The Zen gave me more options than the ipod....

Re: i have about $300 to spend and i'm feeling anti-i-pod

The iPod has revolutionized the way I think about music. It is the closest thing to a perfect gadget as I've even owned.

Don't fight it. Just get one. They're fucking brilliant.

Re: i have about $300 to spend and i'm feeling anti-i-pod

^ Jessica is a whore too. Anytime you are resorting to sex or celebrities you are pushing a weak product imo....

Re: i have about $300 to spend and i'm feeling anti-i-pod

I can't stand vendor biggots. Pro Linux, anti-Microsoft... same thing going on in the MP3 player space. Focus on the features and what you need, not the name.

Sean, I do recall you saying how much you hate your PC and having to wait months for a geek squad appointment last year... is Apple too damn liberal for you?

Re: i have about $300 to spend and i'm feeling anti-i-pod

i have the iriver h320. it's great.always liked the sound quality and it's definitely comparable with ipods. especially since the earphones that it comes with are sennheiser. it's also color and if youget a plug in through the iriver website, you can make it into video. as a rule, the irivers have a battery life of 16 hours. i guess because of the color monitor, it seems a lot less than the 120 i had before. it's more around 12-14 hours than 16. it also comes with its own recorder and if you really are bored, you can get radio. as for the slopes, not sure about that, but i am going to school in ithaca, where it snows ALL the time, so i think it should be able to handle it.
