Suggestions for Digital Camera?

I have a Sony Cybershot DSC-P31 with a 128mb memstick. It's served me well for the last couple of years, but it's starting to give me problems so I want to get a new one. I like the DSC-W1 a lot. It's a 5 megapixel with a big display and all the features I like. The only disadvantage I can see from my current camera is the W1 lacks 2 of the photo effects--negative and solarize, but I only use the sepia and B&W effects so no big deal.

I thought about the DSC-T1. I like how small it is, but it's rather pricey and I've read some bad reviews of it. Also, it has no B&W effect and I use that a lot (maybe the T11 will be better when it's released.) The DSC-V1 looks very promising (especially with the NightShot features), but also too pricey and again, no B&W effect. You'd think Sony's designers would include the same features of the previous models...oh well.

I also thought about some of the Canon Powershot models, but they can't use my memstick. Does anyone have any suggestions for different models I should look at?

Re:: Suggestions for Digital Camera?

DO NOT get a sony.

go with a canon or a nikon. whatever model fits in your price point will be good.

Re:: Suggestions for Digital Camera?

definitely go for canon, they know their stuff. they make cameras for all budgets.

i've got an ixy 400 for everyday snaps and it does the business.

#227049Post 13 of 30

I have a Canon Powershot A75 and for the price, features, settings, quality and reliability you can't go wrong! :D

#227055Post 14 of 30

canon or nikon - depending on your budget. as someone mentioned above, you cant go wrong with those two brands.

#227083Post 15 of 30

The Canon's have amazing image quality but while you'll probably laugh at me have a look at the Casio Exilim cameras I know Casio are usually known for pretty cheap electronics but all the internals of the cameras are either from the Pentax Optio or the top of the line 6MP version my dad just got is all Canon internals

The great thing about them is the 2.5" screen on the back. I haven't seen another camera with a screen this good, seriously. Dad just got back from a holiday and took 200+ photos and the battery hasn't run out yet.

I have an old Ixus 200 which has served me well, picture quality even for a 3 year old camera is amazing.

I just bought a canon G5 (well actually got it as a present). Un FUGGING believable camera. Awesome resolution, and you can fuck with it till you're 99 years old and still not figure out most of the features. Fucking thing's PACKED to the knickers with shit.....

Got a Canon A80 and I LOVE IT.

4 mpx, it comes with 32mb, but since uses compact flash cards, i got cards for good price. It has great manual configs, you can play almost like a reflex camera.

check some pics.

I have a 3.2 mp cannon digital elph and I love it. The size is perfect, small and compact, and it's built like a tank. I would definitely go with a cannon, they got some nice shit coming out in the next couple months.

I have the same machine - no doubt it's a good little unit. I haven't been disappointed by the results. You can switch from auto to manual, and get superb, decent sized pictures.

I bought the Exilim Z40 + 256 SD-Ram and I am totally satisfied with it. Pictures are great quality, the camera is really small to fit in your pocket and the battery lasts and lasts. I can highly recommend it.

Re:: Suggestions for Digital Camera?

I started with a Casio QV-R3 (3.2 Megapixels) and was absolutly surprised how a small camera can make such beautiful pics.

After using the small camera for a while i decided to go for a semi-pro one -> Canon EOS 300D. Picture below taken with a zoom-lens.

Re:: Suggestions for Digital Camera?

I got exilim ex-z3 a year ago at ritz camera...here are some pics below..i am satisfied except for shutter time...its only 3 secs at most...( if its about night pics). I am happy with size battery life and its durable...fall down few times and still works...i had some problems when it was really hot, when i wanted to turn my camera on there was warning on screen saying...lens error....oh and screen is unbelieveable :). Now i damaged it and I think I will get canon because of the colours....

and there is a website called www.steves-digicams.com/ best i have ever seen!!! Check samples over there.

I thinks i will get snobby s500 :)

My friend has a s400 and is vary happy :) smaller screen then casio but better colours IMO. Other things not much difference for me.

Love my caon elph 2. Only problem is that the LCD screen is a bit to small. Also check out the new Casio's. Plus amazon has some excellent reviews and recommendations on digital cameras.
