Yes, I've done the search function here but noticed what I found pertained more to specific wants of those individuals who posted.

With that, here a little summary. I've only had one mixer. STill works, bought back in 92 - 93?.. here's a link to it. It's almost identical.

Im a simple person. No need for the 1,000 knobs/switches. But would really like something a little better than what I have. The mixer I have is just for simple crossfading of tracks. It has nothing special. I would like something with a little more options.. like loops and maybe efx's

What would u all suggest.? Price is really not an option, but wouldnt want anything expensive. this is just a hobby.

Thanks for your time.

Re: Need new mixer

I can tell you what everyone will suggest to you. The Allen & Heath xone 92, the top mixer right.

Re: Need new mixer

He's saying "not expensive". Yes, I'm an A & H whore... there's nothing better and you can beat me over the heads with your Pioneer's and it won't change my mind..ever. That being said if you want efx (flanger, echo etc... ) and don't want to layout a grand or more go find a used Pioneer DJM 500 or 600. Actually, you can find these new for well less than a grand as well. They sound good and are built well. Do yourself a favor and stay away from Gemini, Numark, American Audio etc... Has it lasted you this long and served its purpose? Yes, but once you plug in something like an Allen and Heath or one of the high end Pioneers you will never, ever go back... It's that dramatic of a difference...

Re: Need new mixer

xone 92..I think I've heard or read of that.. isnt that like "big time" for pro's and shit. Looking for something more "humble".. :D

Just wondering if anyone knows about where to get a good simple mixer at a fair price. I purchased my Gemini at Guitar Center. Gosh that was when I was in high school.

Thx. Will look into that Pioneer DJM 500.

My Gemini has certainly served it's purpose. It puts out great sound and has been very durable. Nothing was broken off of it and everthing works 100%

Re: Need new mixer

I have been doing some research I think the DJM - 600 is what I am going to go with. Would love an Allen and Heath but just not ready to spend the cash!

Re: Need new mixer

Just finished reading what the djm 500 has to offer. I like everhting it said.. seems simple enough If anyone has anything to the contrary (Cons) of this piece of equipment and or experience, please advise.

thanks Geoff

Re: Need new mixer

BureOne.... also take a look at the new DJM-400... it's only two channels, has the same effects, a new 24 bit loop function that sync's with the bpm and costs only $549.99... I might check this out myself.

Re: Need new mixer

I've had the pioneer 500 since 99, and it works. It's also a piece of shit imo.

The FX are widely overused, and sound like toys. the 600 is an improvement, but i'd still stay clear of the 5 and 6 pioneer. Fine for home use i suppose the pioneers work, as i've gotten by, but especially with the 500, the cuts on the eqs are shit. Killing the bass means just taking the hit out ot it. It's still very much there. The sound isn't even close to what comes out of some of the othe rmixers in this price range.

For your money, NUO Ecler is where it's @. I've played on the Allen and Heaths a lot and the hype is right, they're sick ass mixers, and boy i'd love to have one at home. However, for that kind of money, AH is overkill for home use imo, especially considering the cost, when playing out is what it's all about.

Check out the NUO Ecler 4, and 5. They're certainly no AH, but not much is. For the $$, i can't think of anything that beats the NUOs at the moment.

Re: Need new mixer

^^^ I'll look into that also Jenks... My big thing is when I drop the eq I don't want to hear it! Drives me nuts (currently using the djm-300 crap also but got me started :)

#561010Post 11 of 41

Re: Need new mixer
My big thing is when I drop the eq I don't want to hear it!
Exactly.

The eqs on the 500 are some of the worst i've ever heard. I also have a Vestax 175 for my buddy's summer vacation house, bought it for under $200 off Ebay, and the eqs on that thing destroy the ones on the pioneer 5 and 6.

Re: Need new mixer
Since my current mixer has no eq thingy, what do u all mean by dropping the eq and still hearing it?
Meaning when you turn the knobs all the way down for your Highs mids and lows they completely turn off instead of still being able to make them out in the background.

The Xone and NUO Ecler 4, and 5 at the low end of the knob say "off" my DJM-300 shows the level at -26 Db

Re: Need new mixer
Since my current mixer has no eq thingy, what do u all mean by dropping the eq and still hearing it?
Depending on your mixer you'll have either 3 or 4 eq knobs which control your high's, mid's and low's. When we talk of "killing" a particular frequency, in this case the bass or "low end" we're talking about all of the bass range of a particular track on a channel... kick drum, bass line, sweeps etc... we want to eliminate that by "killing" or dialing down the low end eq knob on the channel for that particular channel.... The idea being that none of the low end frequencies for that channel "color" or show up in the mix...

^^^ Your answer was much more professional!!

#561022Post 18 of 41

Re: Need new mixer

I see, Ok so my current one does have it's own hi, mid, and bass knobs for each channel and they seem to do what I want them to when I minimize it.

Somethimes though the treble knob makes a "staticy" noise when I move it ever so slightly and does kind of change dramatically with just a small adjustment.

wear & tear I guess.

Gotcha.

#561023Post 19 of 41

Re: Need new mixer

btw, it doesnt look like the NUO mixer Jenks suggested has a "cue". didnt check the Pioneer.. but man I gotta have my Cue. I love that thing. Really comes in handy when I dont want or cant play out loud in the bedroom.

I just put headphones on and mix/record throught the CuE

Re: Need new mixer

you could probable get a djm-300 for a couple hundred. They are two channel with dual BPM counters and I think it does fully split cue mixing for headphone mixing.

Re: Need new mixer

OK!.. well ive done my research and it's come down to 2 mixers.

Pioneer DJM600 OR A&H Xone:32

Remember, Im a simple person who does this as a hobby out of my bedroom. Make mixes for friends etc.

Which one?

Dont really care for certain things on mixers but the more the better I suppose, and compared to the old Gemini 626 I have, either one of these would be a HUGE HUGE upgrade!

Thanks, you all rock 8)

#595169Post 27 of 41

Re: Need new mixer

AH > 600 ...but...

i'd probably get the 600 over the 32, simply because it's 4 channel, and the 32 is 3, and with two decks and two cd players, switching back and forth is annoying imo. The 32 is higher quality, all the way, but...if you're not going out of your bedroom with it, i'd say you'll probably have more fun with the 600, and the sound quality difference you'll never get sitting in your bedroom, so who cares right?

This does beg the question tho- why you're comparing the 600 and the 32, when the 62 and 600 are the ones to be comparing, in which case, the 62 pisses all over the 600 in every way.

#595174Post 28 of 41

Re: Need new mixer

^ really good point.

It might help to put down what I have. I only have 2 decks. A bunch of vinyl and well, im not gonna start the whole "digital" thing. I am however thinking of purchasing just one CDJ 1000 and mix and match mp3's with my vinyl.

there's so many digital releases and the fact I aint got nothing to mix it with has convinced me on getting 1 cdj. Vinyl for ever, with a lil' help from digitalism. :p

btw, every now and then, I mix and regular house party's. With regualr 12' speakers and a receiver. It does get pretty loud.

#595180Post 29 of 41

Re: Need new mixer

comparing the 600 / 32 vs the 62 is mainly the price. 600 vs 62 I thinks it's a pretty big difference in price no?

#595187Post 30 of 41

Re: Need new mixer
btw, every now and then, I mix and regular house party's. With regualr 12' speakers and a receiver. It does get pretty loud.
house speakers and your dad's hifi pushing it isn't going to pull the sound quality difference out of the AH vs 600, so again, it doesn't matter in that respect.

if you're definitely only planning on using three inputs, (which i don't know why you'd limit yourself now when buying a mixer you're going to keep way into the future), the AH is definitely the higher quality mixer. Still think in the end for what you're going to be doing, you'll have more fun with the 600.

the filter in the AH is bad ass tho, and very much usable, unlike many of the fx on the 600. if you do get the 600, please do everyone a favor and put a piece of tape over the flanger and pretend you don't even have it.

Re: Need new mixer

I personally like the 600. I have had one for two years now and still love it. You can find them for $899 at 123dj.com.
