Finally finished volume 7 of this yestreday - I read the last 3 novels over the past 5 weeks.

What can I say? Amazing set of stories, and a fitting end to the story in volume 7 (I won't spoil it)

I understand that many people thought the end was a bit lame? Does any disagree?

Re: Stephen King-The Dark Tower

absolutely brilliant series, id like to go back and re-read the entire series sometime in the near future. I thought the ending was lame as fuck, let me explain why...

SPOILER ALERT*!!!!

the whole progression of things made it seem like there would be this huge battle and huge climax to things when he reached the dark tower. Instead i feel steven king took a VERY cheap way out of things not even having roland battle the crimson king. Its kind of hard for me to put it into words, but i hope you have some idea what im talking about

Re: Stephen King-The Dark Tower

Yeah I kind of see what you mean, I was about 30 pages from the end thinking 'erm....it doesnt feel like I'm anywhere near a BIG ending'.

I thought the concept of the ending was good though, however I think the next time I read them all again I will look on the stories differently.

I think maybe King had to take the way out that he did because the project was so huge, so convoluted that he maybe didnt know how to tie it all up?

I can't believe that we still don't have a books subforum.

same here, i was thinking the exact same thing when i was toward the end. Despite the shitty ending, i do agree with you that the concept of the end was good and important. kinda sad, to see it all end, but i guess thats ka :D
^ I asked tom tom a couple of months ago and he said there wasnt enough interest? (could have been chem I asked?)
Yeah, I remember that. TBH it would just be more clutter, but I definitely think there's enough interest. Actually come to think of it we could have a books section and a fiction and nonfiction subforum. Hmmmm, now I'm starting to sound like Kamal.

You are really like Kamal. :)

About those books: I have read part 1-3 but then stopped because further parts haven't been translated to German language. I must check them out again and if they still haven't been translated I must get my hands on the original versions...I can't remember a fucking thing so I have to re-read all books again though. I only can remember what a huge let down it was for me to read over 1000 of pages and to never know how it continued. :x

I felt that was really the only way to end those books. I personally loved it, a fiiting end to an amazingly thrilling series. :Bingo:

Had a ton of fun posting in there and reading up on theories about the series while I was reading books 4 and on. Lot of great info at that site about the series.

Re: Stephen King-The Dark Tower

I love The Dark Tower series. I remember when I first started reading Stephen King it was all about horror for me. I didn't even give The Dark Tower books a glance. I didn't care about Stephen King fantasy and thought it wouldn't be any good. Then one day I didn't have any more SK books to read other than these. I picked up the short and sweet book one and was instantly hooked. I still haven't read his updated version of book one yet. All of them are awesome. It was torture waiting for 5, 6 and 7. I thought the ending was great. Not exactly what I had in mind, but really the only way I could see it working out with the whole reality theme tie in. One of my favorite moments out of all 7 is right before the characters meet the author and the trees seem to have a million faces looking down on them. I kept thinking: "I'm one of those faces!". Brilliant writing. I highly recommend Bag Of Bones for all the SK fans who haven't picked it up yet. I'm a die hard fan and BOB is probably my favorite SK book. Great topic, by the way.

Re: Stephen King-The Dark Tower

^ Personally I thought Bag of Bones was awful, King's worst book, but each to one'e own I suppose.

Re: Stephen King-The Dark Tower

I finally got around to reading the revised edition of the gunslinger, which was ok with all of the stuff he added in. It has been about 15 years since I read the original and I wanted to do a recap. I am going to read all of them again...I can't wait to re-read the wastelands which was my favorite.

Re: Stephen King-The Dark Tower

I found two first edition copies of "The Eyes of the Dragon" yesterday, what a find! This is such a great book and Dark Tower related for those that don't know. I just had to grab them up and add them to my SK collection of first editions.

/edit...here is a picture of one of them.
