TRANCE.NU -- A legend died... German DJ, producer and remixer Markus L?ffel a.k.a. Mark Spoon was found dead in his flat earlier this week...

Written by: Twan van Loon, aka Dancemania

Mark Spoon died at the age of only 41 years old in the morning of Monday, January 9 cause of an heart attack. Mark was found dead earlier this week in his flat in Frankfurt, Germany.

Mark Spoon was born in 1964 as Markus L?ffel. Together with Rolf Ellmer (a.k.a. Jam El Mar) he was behind the popular dance / trance project ?Jam & Spoon?. They produced various hits such as ?Stella?, ?Right In The Night?, ?Find Me? and ?Be Angeled?. Besides the ?Jam & Spoon? project, Mark was involved in other popular dance projects such as ?Storm?, ?Tokyo Ghetto Pussy? and ?Big Room?.

During the years Mark made remixes for many artists and bands such as Paul van Dyk, Dr. Alban, Moby, Technotronic, Enigma, Deep Forest, Age Of Love, Pet Shop Boys, Frankie Goes To Hollywood and many more...

And last but not least Mark was a well known DJ in the international dance scene.

Trance.nu would like to pay their respect to the family, friends and fans from Mark and wish them all the best in those sad days...

Re: Mark Spoon(Jam & Spoon) found dead

That's very sad. "Follow Me" is still such an amazing track. When it came out nobody had every heard such a long track with such a big breakdown, or a big speed change.

Most of Tripomatic Fairytales was a great album too.

Re: Mark Spoon(Jam & Spoon) found dead

another article about this sad news from trustthedj.com Marc Spoon died suddenly in his Berlin apartment this week, after reportedly suffering a heart attack. MTV Germany said police broke into his flat after friends tried and failed to contact him. He was 39 years old.

The legendary German DJ, whose real name was Markus Loeffel, achieved massive commercial and critical success in the early 90s, remixing acts including Quincy Jones, the Pet Shop Boys and Dr Alban before producing the definitive remix of Age Of Love that became one of the first trance superhits of the era. He also became a bona fide pop star in 1993 when he teamed up with classical musician Jam el Mar to form Jam & Spoon, scoring massive worldwide hits with Stella and Find Me, featuring the vocals of former Shamen singer Plavka.

Simultaneously, he developed a parallel career as a techno/ trance DJ, regularly spinning at London?s seminal Final Frontier at Club UK and becoming one of dance culture?s first genuine superstar DJs.

Always a larger than life character, both physically and via his well known penchant for hard living, he was famously jailed for several days in Ibiza in the early 90s after being caught necking a couple of ecstasy pills as he DJed at Space. He also received a 3 day jail sentence in Germany in 2002, after being convicted of football hooliganism for fighting in a stadium 12 years previously.

Corvin Dalek?s manager Mark Reeder who knew Marc well throughout his career told Skrufff he was ?shocked but not really surprised about his untimely death?, adding ?I was in negotiations to get him a gig in China and spoke to him just before Christmas.?

?Mark was a colourful character in the club scene and a legend in his own lifetime. We will miss him, thankfully, he's left us a legacy of truly classic tunes which will remain with us forever,? said Mark.

Gigolo Records chief DJ Hell also paid tribute, telling Skrufff ?we?ve all lost a great character and a friend.?

?Everybody is shocked about this sad news,? Hell added, ?he will life forever in our minds.? http://www.trustthedj.com/SKRUFFF/news_article.php?news_id=4924 really sad, carl cox had a heart attack last year but luckily he survived Mark Spoon was a good producer, may he rest in peace

Re: Mark Spoon(Jam & Spoon) found dead

Someone said on another board that they read an interview that he would have to go into detox after ibiza. So, apparently he had a history of HEAVY partying.

all that shit does take a long-term toll, especially on your heart...you may not feel it until 5, 10, 20 years down the road however...apparently it caught up to him fairly quickly..

sucks

Re: Mark Spoon(Jam & Spoon) found dead

right in the night was great track. take the vocal away and you have that Humate track from a few years ago. that bass line marked 1000 trance tracks. also the instrumental version with the 1 - 2 minute spanish guitar solo was great. Kinda what robert miles copied.

Journey to ayonna (spelt wrong, I know :-) was my fav track that hem lads done, also liked the weirdness of i pulled my gun once
