I'm off to Atlanta in 10 days (Jan 14th) for a week with work - can anyone give me any idea of where the best places to shop, drink, eat, party etc are? Also any major sports happening at the moment (football, basketball etc)?

Looking forward to checking the place out, any hints and tips would be a great help.

Cheers

Nick

Re: Atlanta Nightlife

well baseball isn't going on right now, but if you want to get dangerous you could go to a Hawks basketball game. they suck, so tickets are cheap. if they are playing someone good, that might be fun. you just missed all the college bowls they had here.

  • for shopping, go to and around lenox mall in buckhead.
  • for a drink or good food or to party, go to midtown (crescent street) or buckhead (peachtree st & pharr road). if you go down pharr a little ways, there's the atlanta seafood market. great clam chowder and fresh fish.

eleven50 is on crescent street. lots of other bars. marcus schulz is playing sometime soon. thats the only "big" event i know about for EDM.

satellite records is on moreland ave. i believe in the virginia highlands, right across the street from the best hamburger place in town, The Vortex.

These sites are good references for music and other stuff. Both have event calenders. Lunar is good for club nights and restarant discussions in the forum (use search). Umix has happy hour type bar listings with djs and restaurant listings.

Atlanta has a ton of cool, fun food places if you are expense account... and other than bigger clubs there are a lot of decent loungy places for a drink.
