are the spice girls worth seeing?

Re: Paul Oakenfold

Oakenfold ... YES/NO. kinda like seeing a legend ... a sold out legend. it will be a good show, but very trance-y. i really have not heard the guy in a long time. loved his bbc shows from way-back-when.

how much are tix?

Re: Paul Oakenfold

I'm betting they're $30... and it's not worth $30 unless you're in your first year of EDM. If you're looking for a place to take drugs, it'd be a hell of a time... otherwise not worth it imo

Re: Paul Oakenfold

don't go. i saw him once about 5 years ago, and it was pretty lame. a few of his "world tour" emixes are still legendary, as well as some of his mix cds, but he went off the boil a long while ago.

Re: Paul Oakenfold

y he def washed up, and please dont give that sellout anymore $

Re: Paul Oakenfold

i would see him if you are interested. just keep it a secret or the rest of the board will make fun of you.

I don't quite understand what happened to the guy. he used to be king. heres my theory. when he started his own label he started to play tracks only from his label. and if your not playing the biggest tunes from everywhere your gonna get left behind.

does anyone else have a theory as to what happen to him?

Re: Paul Oakenfold

Personally I would not waste money on going to see him but if you want to go. Then go and who cares whatever else thinks. It your money spend it how you want too.

Re: Paul Oakenfold

I went to see Hernan Cattaneo, Shiram from Deep Dish and Paul Oakenfold earlier this year.

Hernan and Shiram were incredible. We left about halfway through Oaky. It was too generic. IMO, there are MANY acts that are much more worthy.

Re: Paul Oakenfold

if you like what he plays go see him. if you're unsure of what he plays dont go see him.

Ra'ul Strokenpole is hardly worth any cover fee imo. bad mixing and enough ego to make james lavelle look like a rock in a forest.

Re: Paul Oakenfold

I've heard a ton of mixed reviews about Cokenfold... don't lke what he's playing these days myself, but others don't seem to mind it. His 99 Essential Mixes were gold though.

Re: Paul Oakenfold

Having not seen him in his prime, I would definitely see him at least once.

Re: Paul Oakenfold

just expect at least 10 jesus poses within the first hour of his set.

on any given night, there are hundreds of locals in any town that will blow away oakenfold.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

I saw him in '01 or '02. He was good, nothing more nothing less. I've heard countless sets by local DJ's that were better. The thing with Oakenfold is that it's not really about cutting edge music. It's more about newbie ravers getting a superstar DJ rave experience.

thats where all the money is nowadays. teenagers or oldies newbies looking for a DJ with a big reputation and don't necessarily know alot about dance music, perhaps don't even care and just want a drum beat all night to dance to.

Re: Paul Oakenfold

oh this guy does not play good music anymore. I saw him at creamfields and nothing new...but you all know that 4 years ago he was awesome

I tend to agree. I don't think it's really a bad thing either. I like playing to audiences that don't know a lot about the music because they're just there to dance and party until ridiculous hours of the morning. Playing to clued up audiences gets tedious. Those nights are usually a small audience of chin-stroking assholes sitting around pointing out the trainwrecks, the muddy mixes, and the dated tracks.

Being accessible doesn't always mean that you have to sell out.

Re: Paul Oakenfold

Not a big Oakenfold fan. My standards may be high, but I expect dj's to be able to match beats. Older stuff wasn't bad. There comes a time in some people's careers where their ego gets larger than what they are doing. I'd rather stab myself in the eye with a pencil than have to watch him spin.
