Great, just when I recover from that flu I caught last week:

The premises I live in is as of beginning this week being restored. We get new window frames, new kitchen cabinets, an extra elevator (so now drunken frat fuckers can piss and puke in 2 elevators instead of one), more parking space, new floor and whatnot. That is the cool part of the deal. The shitty part is:

They start @ 7 AM

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck...I usually go to bed around 1 or 2 am, but regularly later simply because I work best late in the evenings, or because when I get inspired on a design I just work until it's done. And they start banging the old frames out with damn sledgehammers, then use drills & other equip (something to 'scrape' layers off the stone, can't remember it's english name now) to resize the fit for the new one and then hammer the new one in place....and it's s? funny: they are always done at noon!

:civic:

That is some truly marvellous planning of 4 months work in a building with 170. Great thinking. Ingenuity at work. Dutch construction work at it's finest.

I have another one: why the fuck not start @ 9 or 10 and then finish a bit later, MORONS. We already have several students getting fucked over with a lack of sleep and looking at another period of exams before X-mas. Niiiiice!!!

4 . Fucking. Months.

Why am I ranting? Oh, just had my 4th night in a row with less than 5 hrs of sleep. And I'm in for a lot lot more....

Re: Insomnia

We had this same problem where I live a few months ago, they seem to start early and then get down the pub for half two. They had one of those massive flatbed lorries unloading for about half an hour blocking the whole street, and they cant move it because it has legs to hold it still so the craine doesnt tip it over. Everyones banging their horns and shit, shouting they are going to be late for work and they just shrug their shoulders and say "theres nothing i can do"

WAKING UP AT 7AM!?

welcome to the rest of the world, buddy.

Re: Insomnia

I don;t really mind waking up at 7 dude, but waking up at with drill and hammers roaring and banging straight thru the damn building is a bit much...and I just happen to work until late because that is when the best workflow comes for me somehow.

But...I am going to try and change that, maybe if I get up earlier for a while, I can get that workflow to come earlier too. I'd like that to be honest, bring my rhythm a bit back to what the rest of the world has :D Oh, and i've seen the new window frames: fucking pimpin man...right now we have these really small parts that open, causing your room to choke in the summer, but now half of the window can be slid open, which in this case also means half of my wall, they're just like those big glass sliding doors you have on the backside of a house...! Maaaan, next summer is gonna be sooooo good with these ones, lots of airflow in the room. And frankly...I am kinda willing to sleep a bit less if I can have that this next summer!
I don;t really mind waking up at 7 dude, but waking up at with drill and hammers roaring and banging straight thru the damn building is a bit much..
my roommate goes to work about half an hour before I do. he always puts his puppy in her kennel when he leaves for work... which just happens to be about 8 feet below my bed. for the past ~3 months now, i've woken up every morning to this dog barking non-stop at about 7:15am when he puts her in the kennel and leaves. because I live 5 minutes from work, I can wake at 7:40 and be on time... so I know how you feel about the waking to annoying loud shit dude.

again, welcome to the rest of the world :p

Re: Insomnia

i used to have sleeping problems but not so much any more. wouldnt bother me anyway because i leave for work at 6:30 every morning :p

i did notice that my apartment complex has people that come and do landscaping in the mornings midweek, would be annoying as hell to get woken by a leaf blower at 7:30 every wednesday... i think the world just expects that most people will be working M-F 8-5 type deal, and fuck everyone else

lol, I know where you come from on this one. For the record: I may not be in freezing weather, but I do work my nuts off at the moment bro, I ain't studying for 3 hours a day then being lazy: i'm busy from morning till late in the evening, and I have to force myself to do training otherwise i'd even skip that. Already from beginning this year, I have never worked harder and people are noticing it too: complaining I don't come around anymore (though they don't lift their asses to some to me if they feel the urge to see me).

It's just the sum of it all: working long, plus exams, plus writing papers, plus being ill last week, plus a lack of sleep, plus not having time to cool down until I get this pile of work done....

You'd get a bit cranky too I bet :D

Re: Insomnia

I say turn on your stereo and a fan. Turn the stereo onto something that you can relax with and try it that way. That way the banging might sound a bit less. And a good set of earplugs would help a lot too. You don't need the $400 ones either.

Yours too? Ambien and I have been friends for quite some time:) :D ;)

When I used to live in LA we had construction next door for two years-Jesus christ did that suck!

Earplugs for sure-get the nicest ones you can find in the drug store and work on your insertion technique (haha "insertion") because I found out over time-"when installed properly they can significantly reduce the decibel level the human ear is exposed to"
