The music industry is to extend its copyright war by taking legal action against websites offering unlicensed song scores and lyrics.

The Music Publishers' Association (MPA), which represents US sheet music companies, will launch its first campaign against such sites in 2006. MPA president Lauren Keiser said he wanted site owners to be jailed.

David Israelite, president of the National Music Publishers' Association, added his concerns.

"Unauthorised use of lyrics and tablature deprives the songwriter of the ability to make a living, and is no different than stealing," he said. "Music publishers and songwriters will consider all tools under the law to stop this illegal behaviour."

Re: Now it's illegal to publish lyrics for free

Next Up Pre-Schoolers, Kindegarten Teachers & Students. For years, the teachers have been infringing on the rights of artists by teaching students nursery rhymes and folk songs without properly compensating them. Millions of students have been singing and enjoying these songs for absolutely free, even whistling the notes to a song, causing more random acts of copyright infringement when other students mimic the whistling.

"This behaviour of rampant copyright infringement will not be tolerated and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. We seek jailtime for the teachers for conditioning the students to be future illegal downloaders, as our research has shown. However we do have a heart and will only fine the students $500 per each act of infringement." -Legal Counsel for Music Industry.

Re: Now it's illegal to publish lyrics for free

In addition anyone who talks about the news at work or with friends is depriving high cost news companies vital advertising revenue . Anyone saying prayers for loved ones before bedtimes or before meals should realise that prayer is for church and should use paypal to donate $1 to their local pastor/priest ect. for every prayer or they are stealing . Anyone swearing for any reason should pay the English and Irish £1 each word for we do it best so by rights those words belong to us . Even french and germans swear in english . Babies sucking on dummies are just using a poor manufactured version of mummies nipples . Each proven occasion of dummy missuse should be catalogued till they reach an age where they can earn money and recompense said parent . True roads were invented by the Romans ( maybe greeks) so everytime you use a road/pavement you are infringing on the interlectual property of the Italian goverment . the list goes on and none are as daft as the one on the first post

Re: Now it's illegal to publish lyrics for free

when does all this bullshit end from the riaa. is the government going to eventually have to step in and tell them to stop or are we all going to have to get together and sue the shit out of them for infringing on our right to breathe.

RIAA is the real reason that music association thread disappeared imo.

Re: Now it's illegal to publish lyrics for free

Music companies are going wild man...in my country they've order and ISP to hand over their client info to the BREIN (our version of the RIAA), so they can start prosecuting people that make use of Kazaa. Motherfuckers...and you know what:

I use p2p software, and buy tracks legally too. It doesn't make me buy less tracks, but I can rather get my hands on stuff that in other circumstances I'd not have bought because I do not have the money for it. If I ever would take up producing, I'd like to get paid for my hard work, but in the end even someone without the money for it should be able to enjoy my music. Period.

Re: Now it's illegal to publish lyrics for free

who has the rights to what music you hum? or if you sing out loud. Can you be arrested? So how long does everyone on here think this kind of bullshit will keep going on for?

#526687Post 16 of 26

Re: Now it's illegal to publish lyrics for free

this kind of bullshit will carry on as long as the record companies stay greedy and they always will be ...

more files shared = more exposure for the artists ... record companies want their money just like how they want food off a fast food joint ... they have forgotten the fact that artists need exposure in order for them to rake in the money, gone are the days where artists are heavy promoted over years just for them to grow and develope and have a following and make money ... whatever that they cant sell now they just blame it on technology and on file sharing and come out with ridiculous laws that hurt the industry more than it hurt their wallets

its just sad that the people running record companies are a bunch of cavemen that doesnt know how to make use of technology to work for them and ended up destroying everything

Re: Now it's illegal to publish lyrics for free

I seldom buy cd's these days for the simple reason that the price of them is ridiculous . Downloading them legit costs half as much. Apparently If you pay £13 for an album only £1.20 of that goes to the actual artist . Put session time in the studio onto that and ure looking at about £2 an album for artist and production costs . Why should i have to pay recording companies the goverment and everyone else the other £11 . I don't actualy use cd's to play music anywhere it goes onto pc then onto everything else , the cd is a one time use only . Tell you what i recon, all artists should have a paypal account and if we like what we download we should send them £2 .. Sounds fair to me

i did read from somewhere that only like 4.5% of your money paid for the cd goes to the artist ... 0.5% goes to the pressing of the cd ... 20% goes to the production costs ... and the rest of the 75% goes to the big wigs in record companies ... the actual percentage might be wrong but you get the drift ... and this was from way back before the whole mp3/technology thing even started

Re: Now it's illegal to publish lyrics for free

retarded really, you can't post song txt's or parts of it anymore? if they are smart and make songs with the most used sentences of the world they wouldn't have to sell a single album to get rich. they could just sue everybody for using there lyrics

gay!

we must not forget those regular people who work at the actual record companies. they take a bit of money from it. but i believe it IS mostly the big excutive vice presidents of those companies that take most of the chunk.

Re: Now it's illegal to publish lyrics for free

honestly? they've been cracking down on major lyrics sites for yeaaaars. i remember a long time ago (8+ yrs?) a great lyrics site that I used to visit all the time went down permanently because of the law

#527439Post 25 of 26

Re: Now it's illegal to publish lyrics for free

i just dont get it, it doesnt make any sense to me.. its so stupid to anyone trying to make this a law. therefore we will disallowed to sing the lyrics perhaps? so why the recorders and the artits include the song lyrics in their works? its something secret? this makes this questions and more their way of thinking so LAME.

Re: Now it's illegal to publish lyrics for free

Couldn't help but be reminded of this RIAA prank as I scrolled through these comments. Personally, if it wasn't for "piracy", I wouldn't have bought about 3/4 of the CDs I do own. God knows I can't tune the radio to hear the latest house or progressive releases so I've more or less taken the situation into my own hands, so at the end of the day, my ears are happy.

Anywho, here's the link. http://www.zug.com/pranks/riaa/
