As we draw to the end of another year (they seem to be flying in) I wanna take a min to post things I've loved about this year and a few things I havent.

Feel free to summarise your year in this post:

Best track of 2005 - Sia:Breathe Me (Ulrich Schnauss mix) - the version from Sasha's EM. One of the greatest dance tunes I've ever heard, so emotional, must have listened to this track 1000 times in 4 months

Best set - sasha's em from maida vale. Slated by everyone, but this is quality, so many awesome tracks in it.

Comp of year - Warren Shanghai - great tracks, great programming, warren surpised me with this belter of a cd, timeless

best mix from 2 tracks - morgan page into michael mayer-lovefood on sasha's em. Something about this mix makes the hairs stand up on the back of neck

Honourable mentions:

Desyn's kiss mix

pole folders kiss mix

howells miami cd1

seaman therapy sessions 2

pappa from club korona oct 21 - brilliant set from the best mixer in the business

cattaneo masters 2 - again just a quality cd

dislikes:

balance 7 - i've tried and tried but cannot get into this at all. superbly programmed but doesnt count for much when the tracks are quirky and eclectic like this.

fundacion nyc - would be up there with the best of them if it ended after the holden tracks, but alas the end is too monotonous for me

electro - wtf??

seaman's kiss mix - lazy and messy

loads more shout outs, but i'll post them later when i can think of them

feel free to add comments

Re: 2005 Musically - In Your Words!!!!

this year was all about digweeds return to twilo for me. what a night. hanging out all banged up laughing with poto and his roomies. seeing the MS ppl we ran into. was a special vibe and diggers lived up to and exceeded.

tracks i loved

moby- dont you forget about me- booka shade ermix (thanks to poto for playing it and for fortier showing me where to get it)

playing for digweed was my fav.

CD- lisle OS blew my mind. nick warren shanghi everything by andy newland

and have to give much much respect to hector romero for surprising me a ton with one of the most darkest, evil and deep sets i have ever heard.could have been tagged with diggers and sounded just as good.

also, the MS crew for putting a great radio station together, highlighed my Yao's sets which i thoroughly enjoyed a few times.

and picklemonkey and skahoud and asdf admin for keeping me entertained every day at work.

Re: 2005 Musically - In Your Words!!!!

I think it was a great and fantastic year for electronic music. From those nice people at Mixmag. I got to hear a great Angello and Ingrosso Mix for the price of the magazine, which had some great stuff in it. Then next month they have a wonderful cd from one of the kings of Minimal...LocoDice, and with a sweet cd. That magazine made me really wish i could've made it across the pond this year to go to Ibiza, and even more to go to DC-10 and Cocoon. Along with the REAL Cocoon in Germany. Richie Hawtin moved across the pond as did Jimmy Van M. Maybe that'll help them get more gigs over there.

I don't have a favorite track for the year. But i'm really digging Royksopp's 49% Angello and Ingrosso and the MANDY mixes. Superb track.

Overrated track of the year... Pryda - Aftermath. And yes I did buy it anyway.

Best dj set? I've got a pretty sweet set from Digweed in Dubai that is cool. I'm listening to him more this year than i did in the past two years together. Go Digweed.

Thing to be thankful for...my two residencies in columbus. I have a Thursday which used to be Friday at the local Carlile club and a monthly that I do at the Bristol Bar. Pretty nice places. But i'm looking forward to playing out soo much more in 06.

Along with producing sooo much more.

Be on the lookout for a free remix from myself within the next few weeks.

Re: 2005 Musically - In Your Words!!!!

I have yet to check it out. It's pretty expensive to buy it online. I'd really have to hear it first, then decide if it's good enough to buy.

Clive Henry is one of my favorite producers though. PEACE DIVISION ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!

Re: 2005 Musically - In Your Words!!!!

Track OTY: Terry Grant - I'll Kill You -- beautiful, that's really the only word I can use to describe it.

Set OTY: Desyn @ Focus -- as if I wasn't already a fan, this one cemented it.

Album OTY: Lisle OS -- def. agree with that call

Party OTY: Sad to say but I hardly made it out this year. Carl Cox @ Avalon, Boston if only by default.

Sports Moment OTY: Watching the Pats completely rip through the Colts, Steelers and, Eagles - man that seems sooooo long ago right now...

TV/Movie Moment OTY: Return of Family Guy

Re: 2005 Musically - In Your Words!!!!

Musically this year took on a huge change for me. I used to be all about trance and nothing was better then trance....then in March I went and saw Steve Lawler at System and everything changed. I gained a whole new respect for the different types of electronic music out there.

Party's of the year for me were:

Steve Lawler @ System Soundbar

Sasha & Steve Lawler @ The Guvernment - highlight on the Skybar when Sasha and Lawler went back to back....definately in my top 5 of all parties

Armin Van Buuren @ The Kool Haus for Decadence II

Matt Hardwick @ The Docks for Destiny 49

WEMF 2005 - 1st ever WEMF experience and one of the best experiences

Re: 2005 Musically - In Your Words!!!!

I think 2005 musically can be summed up in five words.... Crazy Frog Was Number One Other than that lowlight...

Best Track - Suicide Sports Club - Last Ghost In Town (Redanka Remix) Not far behind it is Pryda - The Gift. One of my repeated highlights of the year has been the fact that no one buys vinyl anymore, so most people completely missed this one. When anyone asks me what it is I just turn over the record and show them its the B side to arguably the most hyped prog record of the year. Even I bought the vinyl, skipped through the B side and left it in my box for a couple of weeks til I heard it on a live set, flipped out and found the track ID, whoops.

Best Compilation - Luke Fair - Bedrock OS3 - Just awesome, unfortunately Balance 008 didn't do for me what Desyn's live sets do.

Best Live Set - Desyn Masiello @ HonkyTonks Melbourne 26 Nov - I was there and the recording was even better than I remember.

Best Kiss Mix - Desyn Masiello - 6 November 2005

Biggest Disappointment - John Digweed @ QBH Melbourne - Melbourne Cup Eve - The same sound for 4 hours, nothing exciting about it at all, I had high expectations and probably wasn't in the best mood for going out after falling asleep on the couch before the gig after too many red wines at dinner, but it was just boring.

Re: 2005 Musically - In Your Words!!!!

More favourites/highlights:

Micah's 3 year anniversary mix on proton (including that speedcats track)

Habersham's kiss mix - weirdness, but in a good way

Vance Musgrove mix featured on MS the other month

Jacob Todd/Kelly Noland - Somehow (Aural imbalance mix) - brilliant track

Re: 2005 Musically - In Your Words!!!!

fair, but lacking. some really great sets this year. but overall, i felt we were a little behind. Some big ups to JZ 4.2, Sasha's Proton Mix, some of the Kiss Spec Guest's were just perfect, and so many more.

I just heard a new JZ set on XM last night. And all i remember was this stupid track with this guy rapping and talking about everybody get up and other shit.

What kinda crap was that? Maybe he was playing to people who didn't know too much about EDM. Too much forcefeeding of hip-hop these days by MTBlaaah.
