11/03 New Proton Music compilation announced...

Following the highly acclaimed compilation "The Sound" mixed by Lance Cashion, Proton Radio is proud to announce the second release in the series. Chicago's Brian Ffar and Daniel Mnookin (host of Proton's "Red Line Sessions" and "Tic Tech Toe", respectively) will be teaming up to bring you a mix that promises to showcase their eclectic yet dance floor friendly sounds that blur genre-defining boundaries such as techno, electro, and beyond.

The duo has already begun work on the compilation, a single disc, which is scheduled to be released this December on Proton Music featuring exclusive unsigned tracks from Jake Fairley, Alland Byallo, Dafluke, and many more. Stay tuned for more information!

Brian and Daniel are also currently accepting 2006 dates in support of the compilation, anyone interested in booking them can e-mail Daniel directly at daniel@danielmnookin.com.

Techno and Electro....great. I havent been too impressed with Protons choices for who is doings their mixed CD's. I bought Lance's right when it came out and it only got played a couple of times, got stale really fast. Then Chloe was supposed to release her disc that flopped, which I was glad for. I wasn't looking forward to hearing any more of that noisy B-Sides stuff. Now this release....

Proton has some rock solid DJs that put out some quality chunky progressive music. Why don't they stick to that area of music and let someone like Jay Epoch put out a mix CD? What ever happened to Troy Roberts or Adam Nathans and Jerome Robbins? Their mixes were the shit. Please, Please, Sam, let the music speak for itself.

Re: New Proton Music compilation announced

i would take a ffar/mnookin mix over any other djs on proton radio any day of the week. chloe cancelled doing hers for "personal reasons" i believe.

Jay will actually be releasing a compilation as well featuring cuts off of the Proton label...

...Proton has always been about showcasing a diverse set of sounds...rather than simply limiting itself to one genre...

...Brian and I are honored to get the opportunity to do this compilation, and hope you will all enjoy it and then send us six-figure checks in the mail as a way of saying "Thank You".

david josephs for proton comp #3 ;)

yeah, i was really kinda referring more to the proggier side of djs which seem to be the majority, but i wasnt attempting to classify proton as a prog station, i know they have a bit of everything on there, and a lot of very good shows!

Re: New Proton Music compilation announced

nice to hear this news...your sets have been awesome. Looking forward to the mix :)

and while we're at it, does anyone have their basic LA set...I lost it and need it back.

and about that lance compilation, I've loved that cd from the day I got it...still play it til this day. Have found it a great Sunday afternoon set (in the same vein as kruder & dorfmeister's Sessions). I guess it's a matter of different strokes for different folks.

hi. my mix actually totally rocked. its such an interesting combo of ambient, house, electro, techno and grooves. my mum died in the process of doing this stupid mix cd. the music i got for the mix wasn't particularly fantastic, so i had to recreate each tune or take the parts i wanted. it became really hard to concentrate on that when my mum was getting closer to dying every day. so, no.. i wouldn't say flopped. i'd like to see anyone try to focus on being creative, while something like this happens. its just not that easy.

but, and here we go, i agree with jarble. techno and electro. wasn't there just like 20 pages of a thread about how techno is a bad word on this board? BOO to you guys kissing ass. :MadNow:

it doesn't matter that someone loved or hated the mix. you have to be open to hear others critisism, and don't feel obligated to come back with excusses. Chloe, if you are proud of your mix that is all that matters. if you create something that everyone likes chances are you didn't push the envelope. keep on keeping on, and if someone doesn't like it F' em. personally i can't wait to hear the new one.

i'd be willing to bet chloe had electro-proper in store for us.

Re: New Proton Music compilation announced

^^^ thats all I can hope for is a proper-electro set.

i have only heard proper-electro outside of the USA. it would be phenominal to hear a good electro set put together from someone in the states.

i just feel that chloe is wasting her time answering to people who don't like her work. not everyone is going to like you.

look at it this way, PVD is the #1 dj in the world? WHAT? who cares if someone doesn't like your sets.

all artists are fragile. we create for all people to enjoy. it does not destory our life, but it can sure damper a day when you put in a lot of hard work. that is all.

Re: New Proton Music compilation announced

So, from what I gather, I dont know my stuff because Im not interested in the new Proton release. Thats a low blow. First of all, I did not mean any disrespect to Brian, Daniel, Lance and Chloe. I think that Proton Radio is top notch and I am glad that they are starting to finally make a name for themselves. However, as Rubyraks mentioned, different strokes for different folks. I like it deep, dark, and hard. For me, Electro has no depth and I have a hard time letting myself go to get into it and ride it for the experience. I also feel that electro has been the big shift the last 18 months as the club scene becomes more trendy, and I have listened to a lot of my favorite Djs take that route (ie. Sasha and Digweed, Luke Fair). I congratulate Brian and Daniel on their upcoming release, however, I can think of others who I would like to hear mix a Proton release. Thanks for letting me be titled to my own opinion!

There are quite a few dj's I'd like to see do a comp for Proton. But I won't list them.

#508539Post 34 of 56

Re: New Proton Music compilation announced

"different strokes for different folks"

that should be the motto of every music messageboard i check out. if any of the above was aimed at me, i have nothing against what you like to listen to, but saying you were "glad that chloes cd flopped" just isnt on imo. why would it matter if the cd had been finished and come out, why would you prefer for it to never exist than for it to exist and you just not listen to it... thats all i'm saying.

if i wasnt a fan of someone, i just wouldnt listen to their cd...

Well, Pelo, I guess I have personal issues with the choices from day 1. Ive been listening and supporting Proton Radio for several years now. Putting out a major CD release is a big deal to me and it should be something to get excited about. However, the way I feel about the choices is the same way I feel about James Levelle being a GU artist, or Luke fair doing an OS for Bedrock. Ive been listening to both of those labels since day one as well, and its hard for me to see it take a turn that I have a hard time listening to. Its all personal i guess and maybe I have some issues that I need to get over. Sorry fellas for being the dickhead of the thread, just stating how I feel.

Re: New Proton Music compilation announced

there is so much good music out there, why limit yourself? i am highly supportive of up and comers, and love a different spin from dark, hard, fast, mean, untz untz. i love a good jimmy of a surprise. and yes disappoints do suck highly. it always about the untz untz, but there are so many untz untz out there.

if you are so upset over the selection, why don't you start your own label and publish your own artists ... you will learn it is not as easy as you think. you are allowed your own words, but so are others. this world is not fair, is not even close. if you do not like the what you see or hear, you also have the power to change that. that is your right.

#508559Post 40 of 56

Re: New Proton Music compilation announced

you have been listening since day one, and on the other side of that i believe b-sides, rls, and ttt have all been proton shows since day one. as with lance cashion, these guys have been providing weekly/monthly shows, and i am sure they have as many fans on proton as people that aren't fans. if you feel that you deserve a mix from a certain artist on the station, thats one thing, but these guys deserve to get the chance to make these cds just as much as anyone else imo.
