Should the Death Penalty be Televised?!?

Have a paper due and would love a little commentary. Assignment is if the death penalty should be televised. I personaly don't believe in the death penalty, but if it is legal I believe the press should have a right to cover and televise it. Maybe that would actually deter the death penalty if people could see the actual killing of people. Two wrongs don't make a right.

Re: Should the Death Penalty be Televised?!?

fuck no. it'd be tasteless and sensationalized. people about to be executed have a right to die with at least SOME dignity.

even child rapist / murderers? i disagree. these scumbags deserve to die with their face stuffed in shit

Re: Should the Death Penalty be Televised?!?

The reason why they don't televise executions is because the government is totally ashamed of this practice and doesn't have the spine in showing the public, just how barbaric and discraceful this type of punishment actually is.

Murder is murder no matter who pulls the lever, switch ect, ect.

It's just as retarded as the war on terror.

Re: Should the Death Penalty be Televised?!?

"When I think of network TV and suicide, I think of Fox"

-George Carlin

After hearing him preach about it in Vegas 2 months ago, I think suicide would be the ultimate reality TV show. Find all the people that are dying/unhappy with their life, then add all the murders and rapists that have life in prision, and let them all kill themselves the most creative ways possible. You're bound to make a 1-hour sitcom out of that, and people would be compelled people to watch it

Re: Should the Death Penalty be Televised?!?

I think executions should be shown in school starting at about the third or fourth grade when kids start to think they wear the big boy pants and shown every year until they graduate. Maybe then it would deter them from commiting crimes. Then perhaps we would not have 16 year old misfit children killing women and carving gothic symbols in there back like this dude I am heraing about in the news today.

somewhat off subject but I have seen on discovery about how there have been people on death row from way back in the day who through new technology (mostly DNA stuff) have been found to not be guilty of the crime that put them on death row. Think about how many people have been killed who might have actually been innocent.

you think all people executed are GUILTY? wrong...

ohh, and violence begets violence. you show little kids actual people dying for real (read: not in a movie where they know its fake) and you're gonna desenstize them to violence. just look at the islamic countries where executions are public events held in packed soccer stadiums...those kids are screwed up day 1.

I am not too sure I would credit public executions for their problems. I think just the fear of going to the store and being blown up by a suicide bomber, being shot by a stray bullet as people battle over whose land belongs to who may have a bit more to do with it than just public executions

but that is just my opinion ;)

yes yes. murder = murder. violence begets violence.

take off those girly t-back panties and put on some mans underwear!

No, i do not think every person on death row is guilty. but i'd be willing to bet my testicles and underwear that 99% of them are. and i'd have no problem tuning in to see that piece of shit who raped and killed and raped again this girl in Florida last year. fucking scum deserves fucking death. public or not. i think we all know it'll never be on tv, but be sure if there was a vote on it, i'd be pro.

just cause you want to get your rocks off watching some murderer die isnt a valid reason for why they should allow public executions.

They should start shooting them off into space and see how far they can get in their lifetime. They are disposable right? Why not do something productive. haha

ey man, you say this cause you havent been kidnaped, i live in mexico, i was kidnaped 2 years ago, beliave me, its the worst fucking experience you could have, who the fuck cares about their dignity when they fuck with YOURS. i personally dont really care if they are guilty or not, there must be some reason why they have been supects, dont they?. we are talking about the lethal injection when in fact they should be fried or hung, or better then cut their fucking cock off IMO.

i do mean it, dont get political about this if you havent been there, you dont know whats to be defenseless against 5 assholes beating you till they get tire, with out knowing if your gonna live to tell this or not.

im not an agressive person, it is just i know how it feels so much anger and stay like that, cause if the kidnaper goes to the jail, eventually he will go out and start the same shit.

Re: Should the Death Penalty be Televised?!?

i agree with the death penalty, but putting it on telly will never stop people from killing or raping etc.. people will do what they are driven to do regardless. sure some people on death row are innocent, and a lot of people that should be on death row are out free. this legal system is FAR from perfect.. coughOJcough. but if someone is on death row, i would venture a guess that they must have had a reason to be a suspect. not saying that justifies them being there, but hey, this is the system that is in place. innocent people die every day, it is a sad fact of this fucked up world. but someone saying they are against the death penalty i guarantee would be singing a different choon if their daughter, wife, mum, dad, son, brother, sister or other family member was brutaly raped and murdered and the offender gets to live in a prison for the rest of their lives. it may make you feel good to say death sentence is barbaric and inhumane blah blah blah.. so is tying someone up, raping them and murdering them in front of their family.

murder = murder violence begets violence I say an eye for an eye bitches!

who says palmer is not witty.....mighty good idea if ya ask me...........we could surgically implant a camera in their retinas so we can get a first hand taste of what it is like to see you life played out in a tiny capsule shooting through space headed toward the outer reaches of darkness. and for even more kicks as they approach the asteroid belt we can give them a joysrtck controller and see who can navigate it the best

that would make arnold in running man look like a sissy
i would venture a guess that they must have had a reason to be a suspect
This is as a result of investigators being put under pressure to find the perp. I can't remember what state it was but once DNA methods became available 25% of the prisoners were found to be innocent. That's just plain unacceptable. This is where I disagree with some of you. I forget the saying but something along the lines of better to let 10 people go than to imprision 1 innocent person.

^ | its called making a type I error vs making a type II error.

you'd much rather make a type II error (letting a guilty person go free) than make a type I error (convicting an innocent person)

If they did it right and actually tortured them first.

Re: Should the Death Penalty be Televised?!?

yes telvise it .

outside of a ratings jump for the chosen network, it would add a little motivation for our youth to stay out of crime when they see the electric chair victims pissing and shitting themselves while frying. im all for the death penalty for PROVEN murderers and rapists, but i draw the line right there.

You know what, perhaps if you publicly kill off a few of these killing bastrads you might find people discovering that, hey guess what you kill someone you die. Please, let us not stop there, continue the trend, public cut off someone's nuts if they are caught raping, if you beat your kid how about tying that person to a chair and giving the kid a bat and if you can walk right after ten minutes I bet you won't beat that kid again. I got more if you can stand it, public hangings et cetra. Bring it back people; let’s show our kids so they can see there are severe consequences for their actions. To many tear crying-right- voilating-ohh you are stepping on my heart-stupid wimps out there. How about if it was your Mom killed or raped or better yet your kid? Would you still cry for the felon and his rights? I know I would not give two damns for them and I would help pull the trigger or switch or hold the noose. Oh what was that, you think I am a radical, well, so the hell what. It is my opinion; just thank your lucky stars I am not in charge. How is that? Re: Should the Death Penalty be Televised?!?

my gut says there's too much crap on tv already . . . but i remember when my friends in middle school had the Faces of Death tapes going around. it was eerie and interesting, and probably instilled a healthy fear in just as many kids as it screwed up. airing executions might serve a lesson just as well as feed someones fetish, it probably evens out.

for greatest impact i'd put them on right before sienfeld reruns.
