(I'd just like to start by saying this is my 1,000 post. I love this place, you guys are great. I took me a long time, but spam isn't my thing)

Here's another one of those lame getting-to-know-you posts. What hobbies do you guys have outside of EDM/[ms]?

I love playing golf and mountain biking. In the summer I will do each 2 or 3 times per week. I started MB'ing about 3 years ago, but it wasn't until this year that I really got into it. That said, I'm HOOKED. I love the sport, it is great exercise and amazingly challenging and fun, especially for me since I have terrible balance. There are some really nice trails in my area, and many more I haven't even tried yet. It's basically your standard cross country, trees & rocks-style single track, with pleanty of uphill climbs and short little decents. It's great to get off the beaten track and see some nature, as much as can be found in NJ anyway (we're not talking Maine or Wyoming here)

I've been playing golf for years and was even at time lucky enough to belong to a pretty nice club here in NJ. Funds don't really allow for that anymore, but I work in the industry so I find my way on to many top courses, and have played about 15 of the current/one-time top 100 in America. I play to a 14.3 index, although I think I can play with anybody, I also make too many stupid mistakes. Golf is a cruel mistress and she pisses me off almost as much as she brings be joy. At the moment I'm actually glad the offseason is beginning as I have no interest. But I always come back, and those first warm days of spring will find me teeing it up once again.

As far as music goes, I do tinker around in Reason 2.5, but I have a very tough time finishing tracks. Oh well, maybe someday (yeah right).

So what are you guys and gals into?

Re: Hobbies outside of music?

i watch a lot of (proper) football. big tottenham fan. grew up just south of london and it was hammered into me at an early age.

i also read quite a bit, about 3 books a month (depending on length.) currently reading "the river why."

i play xbox, but i go through phases... im playing quite a bit right now because i have a couple of new games, but sometimes i will go months without touching it. my roommate does nothing but sleep, work, and play video games, which kinda annoys me, so i think i have a subconcious contempt towards them, but they are fun at times.

i also like to have sex as often as possible. and i drink beer quite often.

Re: Hobbies outside of music?

Still ride my mtn bikes and used to race norba but now at my age I just hit the local trails in search of the perfect off camber turn, switchback and white knuckle decent. Love golf but golf doesn't love me (mid/high 80's on a good day) and play ice hockey (none of that roller crap) twice a week to stay in shape. Aside from all of that I live a block and a half away from my friends pub where I can get a proper pint, a jameson and one hell of a burrito all for less than $15 bucks...... emmm, burrito.

Re: Hobbies outside of music?

I cant mountain bike...im just so out of shape. I am thin yet have no strength or skills anymore. I went for a 5 mile bike ride not too long ago and I was DYING on the way home, red face, i even got a headache i think from blood pressure who knows. I joined a gym so i could be more in shape, but i am lazy so i dont go. Soon I will make it a priority...i dont wanna be an unhealthy thin girl cuz thats no good...you have to be healthy and thin :) Sex only goes so far for excersize haha

I like to read! I like to play with my puppies and train them...not sure if that counts as a hobby per say. I like to do fix it home projects...my last one was over the summer in which we built a garden wall and lots of plants. I need a new project, im restless. I like to paint...not paintings but rooms and ceilings lol. I like to cook a LOT, trying new recipes is fun for me.

Re: Hobbies outside of music?

I buddy of mine had a 70gal (100+total) salt water tank, but just broke it down last week and is crossing over to fresh water (50lbs+ of live rock, a few fish)

the salt was rusting all of his tools, and the tank cost him a fortune in time and money

Re: Hobbies outside of music?
why's that ?
A million reasons, starting with just be sick of living my life in a cloud of smoke. Spending money, getting frustrated about short supplies, lack of motivation, legal concerns like buying it and driving high, lazy performance at work, zero career goals, coating my lungs with resin, etc etc etc.... I devoted 14 years of my life to it so I figure that's enough.

I'm not going to judge on anyone who does it, I loved it right up until I stopped, and really still do.

Re: Hobbies outside of music?

what a great topic for your 1000th post pal. Me? I'm an avid liverpool supporter and watch premiership football (saccer!) no matter who is playing, big time in to GAA, which is our national sport. I love eating out, reading autobiographys(whenever there is one worth reading), riding my motorbike even though im only a novice and messing with my dog ruby, the cutest golden retriever in ireland. oh and yeah I absolutely love golf but dont get to play it as much as I like as I play for a football team and my gal would go nuts if I did both

You are so right about that. I had been going to the gym regularly for the last 2 years, but decided to take the summer off to focus on outdoor activites. The only problem is it broke the habit of going to the gym, and now that the outdoor stuff isn't an option afterwork anymore, I need to start up at the gym again, which is tough. The only thing that gets me in at this point is that if I don't go, my energy level is in the toilet.

It's counterintuitive-- you'd think that not going would conserve your energy, but really it is the opposite, it makes you lazy and tired, while if you do go it gives you a nice little boost.

I cranked out 45 min on the elipitical trainer last night while listening to the Steve Lawler Guest Mix, that shit had me pumping.

Re: Hobbies outside of music?

With with all the golf addicts here...love the game. Play about 3/week during the season. Which would be April-October (give or take a couple weeks on both sides).

I'm also an avid writer. Mostly sci-fi/fantasy stuff. Anyone gonna do Nanowrimo this year? http://www.nanowrimo.org

Reading is an enjoyable past time.

Cooking is another hobby...love throwing parties, having a big feast and then do some spinning into the wee hours of the morning.

You called that one from the beginning, +1.

I'm impressed how many golfers we have on here, doesn't seem like a likely combo (prog & golf). Too bad were all so spread out, we could have the [ms] Open
